Chapter 1
Ammaline Pearson:
The day that I have been waiting for is coming next week. This will be my second graduation ceremony that I will attend. After so many hard working years, sleepless night and so on, I will become an official nurse soon.
"Hey, Ammaline! Are you going to work as a food chemist or nurse huh?" That's the voice of my best friend, Olivia.
"Both" I answered to her question with a smirked face.
"Ohh my god! This girl is craving for money." Olivia teased me.
I looked at her straightly and said "It's not like money is the main topic in my brain, it's more about experience."
By hearing me saying that, Olivia started to change the topic and ask me to go out for lunch.
"I saw that there's a new Italian restaurant near the corner of Good Food building." Olivia said.
"Where? Good Food building? Where the hack is that place?" I asked Olivia while having no idea about it at all.
"The Parker Group! That's what I meant by the Good Food building. Don't you know that the company owns a lot of hotels and restaurants?" Olivia said with a curious face.
After hearing that, I stayed silent for a few seconds because the Parker sounds so familiar to me, but I ignored it and shook my head slowly.
"Ohh my dumb friend!" Olivia said pitifully.
I rolled my eyes and said "Let's go!"
After a ten minutes drive, we arrived in front of the Italian restaurant and we got into that restaurant immediately. As usual, Olivia ordered her favorite of all time Carbonara spaghetti and I ordered Bolognese spaghetti. About 90 minutes later, we managed to finish our spaghetti and some side dishes. Then, we drove back to our apartment and I turned on my laptop to look for works to do.
Three hours later, I realized that I haven't gone to my parents' house for a while so I decided to visit them today. I walked to Olivia's room to tell her that I'm going to my parents' house and I don't plan to come back tonight.
30 minutes drive later, I arrived at my parents' big villa or you can call it a mansion since it's so big. You might wonder why I don't live in my parents' house when I can have a comfortable life here with maids around me, I don't have to do laundry, clean my own room and stuff like that. Well, it's because I don't wanna live under my parents' roof and all the pressure that they give me or the path that they build for me. I just wanna have my own life and my own ways of living. So after I graduated high school, I decided to go look for an apartment that is so luxury to live with my best friend, Olivia. Anyway, I still have a room in this house and I sometimes come and sleep here.
I walked into the house and found no one in the living room so I headed to my bedroom. No one knows that I'm here in the house except my dad's driver and one of the maids. I took a short nap while I have nothing to do until I heard my dad's voice.
"I saw Ammaline's car in the garage. Is she here?" my dad probably asked the one of the maids.
I quickly walked toward my bedroom door and said "Yes, she's here, sir!" and I opened the door to see my dad in front of my bedroom.
"Ehh! You little sneaky kid. When did you get here?"
"A while ago, Mr. Dad!" I answered with a smile.
"Get yourself ready for dinner. I'll be in the dining room soon."
"Okay, dad!"
My dad got into his room after this and I walked to the dining room. I waited at the dining table for about 10 minutes and saw my mom popped out of nowhere.
"So you finally show up! Have you gone into the forest?" my mom said coldly. Why do I feel like she's mad? I suddenly feel bad for not coming and visit my parents for months now if I remember correctly.
"Sorry, mom! I've been so busy lately. That's why I can't find any time to come here." I spoke to my mom calmly when I sensed her her madness or whatever she's feeling right now.
"Come and sit here! Dinner is almost done."
I sat down in my usual place and wait for food to be served. My dad came to the dining table just in time the maids done preparing our dinner. Then, we ate our dinner silently until my dad started to talk about my graduation day.
"So when is your graduation day again?" my dad broke the silence by asking this question.
"Next week" I said and finished my sentence with "You two don't have to go if you're not free."
After hearing me saying that, both of my parents simultaneously turned and looked at me. To be honest, I don't really want them to go there. Last time, I don't even let my parents know about my graduation, but they ended up knowing about the date of my graduation from my friends. Well, this time I can't even say anything
"Tell me! Why don't you want us to join your graduation ceremony???" my dad said this in his demanding voice. For some reasons, I feel like I'm an unfilial daughter.
"It's nothing, dad! If you're free, you can go. I just don't wanna bother you with this. Plus, it's nothing interesting. Don't cancel your meetings or even your works just to join me. I don't feel well about you doing this." I tried to talk to my dad and explained everything. But, the fact is, my parents know a lot of people and I don't want those people to know that I am their daughter. Just like when I was in high school, I wanted to try working in a coffee shop, but the owner of that shop didn't want me back then. After the owner of the coffee shop found out that I'm my dad's daughter, I easily got hired just because the owner knows my dad and my dad is someone who is important to her. I feel so embarrassed after knowing about that fact and I left that job after 3 weeks and I didn't even ask for my salary from the owner.
"Ok! I understand." my dad replied and continued to eat.
"By the way, Am, you're 25 years old now, right?" my mom finally talked again and she also looked at my dad's face after saying this. I felt like something was not right.
