My Very Best Mistake

Chapter 2

Ammaline Pearson: 

"Yes, but why would you ask me about this?" I asked my mom back and raised one of my eyebrow up in a curious way.

Dad cleared his throat and said "Am, do you have any boyfriend?".

I was shocked by his question. I paused for a second and said "Dad, why would you ask such a question? Of course, NOT! I don't have any boyfriend and I'm not interested in having one either." 

"Then, it's time for me to find you a husband so that I can live happily without any worries about you." dad said those words which shocked me to my core.

"Are you serious?" I asked and emphasized the word serious. I suddenly feel sad and the food in front of my face no longer attracts me.

"Am, actually I found someone who suits you and looks good with you. He's a decent guy with good job, from a good family and is also highly educated." dad mentioned almost everything that the guy has, but I tend to not hear anything. I sat there quietly.

"Am, whether you like him or not, you must marry this guy." my mom said this with her demanding tone.

I looked at her unhappily and that's why I don't really have a good term with my mom. She's so bossy, so demanding and always makes decision for me without thinking about my feeling or my difficulty and about the sentence that just flew out from her mom, I'm not shocked at all. I'm used to stuff like that for a long time ago. I turned to my dad and saw his uneasy expression. I suddenly wanna know his reasons for wanting me to marry the guy that he just mentioned. Knowing that my dad is a very reasonable person, I opened my mouth and let my words out calmly.

"Dad, what makes you want me to marry that guy?" again I sensed his uneasiness.

"You know that I have shares in the Parker Group, right?" dad asked me though I have no idea about this, but I just nodded and he continued "That guy, he's the only son of Uncle Brian, my best friend. Brian has been looking for a woman who suits his son for years now, but he couldn't find anyone except you. Brian wants you to be his daughter-in-law since the beginning. He's been asking me to ship you two together, but I keep telling him that I need to give you some times and I can't force you and other excuses." dad stopped talking and he looked sad. I listened to him and stayed silent. I don't know what to say. The dining room suddenly became silent. I can't even look at my parents' faces because i don't know what to say. It's hard to reject them and I don't wanna get married either.

"By the way, why did you mention Parker Group?" I finally said something. 

"That guy is the CEO of the Parker Group and his name is Eric Parker." my dad replied.

"Hmm I see."

"Am, if you don't wanna marry him or if you have someone else, just tell me. I won't force you."

"It's okay, dad. Lemme think first." 

"Am, you don't have to think or do anything. Just marry this guy. He's the best one and I can't find anyone who is better than this guy." mom finally said something again.

"Mom, how do you know that he's the best one? Have you ever met him? Do u even know what he looks like?" I asked my mom angrily and I couldn't keep calm with her.

" Do you think I would marry my only daughter off with a stranger who I've never seen before? I've seen him. I've met him and YES I KNOW WHAT HE LOOKS LIKE." mom kinda raised her voice.

She just answered every single question that I asked in one breath. WOW! If this isn't a serious moment, I would have burst out laughing, but in this situation I don't know what to do and just sat there silently. Mom wouldn't stop talking and she continues to talk about that guy.

"Let me tell you, Am. That guy, he's handsome, smart, gentle and he has everything that any other guys don't have. Plus, he's from a good family, fully of wealth and has a good education background. Where can you find someone like him?" my mom just commented everything about that guy along with her sincered eyes.  Duhhhhhhhh! I rolled my eyes and made sure that she wouldn't see my expression. 

"Mrs. Parker, I think you know him better than I do." dad said that to his wife with a teasing tone.

"I saw him many times at the cafe, the shopping mall and even at the grocery store. The way he talks to his friends, the way he acts and his good looking. I would marry him right away if I'm single." mom spoke and she looked so dreamy while my dad looked so speechless and low-key stared at her with his jealous behavior. My mom was speechless with my dad's reaction and she just laughed.

"stop laughing and hurry eat your food." dad said and mom actually listened to what he said. Then, the room came into silent mode again.

"By the way, there's one thing that I don't really like about that guy." mom broke the silence again.

"What is it?" dad asked and his face looked so curious.

"You know this guy is super duper cold." mom pursed for a second and continued "He's so arrogant and so aloof."

"Oh! So this guy isn't really perfect and you just said that he's the best one." my dad said and looked at my mom with his eyebrows raised up which is like he was challenging his wife.

"I said that he's the best one, it doesn't mean that he's perfect. And one more thing, NO ONE IN THIS WORLD IS PERFECT." my mom said. "Lemme tell you what I saw. Robert, you won't believe what this guy did." she said with her bossy face. By seeing her face expression and what she said, I feel like my mom would win my dad for some reasons. I couldn't help, but silently laughed at these two.
