Chapter 2

As I went into Jeffrey’s office, he was looking at me weirdly. I couldn’t explain the way he was looking at me, but it made me so damn conscious if there was something on my face.  I slowly move to the side and his eyes still followed me. One thing for sure, his harshness seemed to soften.  “Sit,” he ordered.  I slowly make my way to a chair and plopped my butt down. I looked at him curiously. He was not how I was expecting him to be. He was tall and handsome, sun-kissed skin, baby blue eyes, and it was like he was sculpted by Michaelangelo himself. Beside him, I look like a piece of reject rock that didn’t belong next to this art.  I slowly looked down at my hands and played with my fingers for a bit.  “Tell me about yourself,” he said as he sat on his table making him a couple of inches close to me.  I cleared my throat and as I did I tried to discreetly move my chair back to increase the space between us.  I told him everything there is to know about me, my educational background, my part-time jobs related and unrelated to my course, and everything he had to ask.  “I didn’t know you were fresh out of college. Anyhow, I’m sure you will do a good job. If Jessica sees you fit for the job, then I will trust her.” he said with a deadpanned expression. I nodded at him and opened my mouth to thank him but a knock on the door stopped me from doing so.  “Come in, Jessica.” he said Jessica comes in with two coffees. “Here you go, sir. Fresh out of Starbucks.” she smiled as she placed both coffees on the table. “You may go.” he says without a smile to return.  Jessica leaves, and I looked at him.  “You don’t smile.” I stated.  He looks at me and raises an eyebrow. He doesn’t answer me, not even a tiny sound. After a few minutes of silence, he finally speaks up.  "You are my personal assistant starting today. You do everything I tell you to do when I need you to do it. You do not question me, nor will you comment on personal nonsense issues you see.  I will put you through various tests to see how much and to what level I can trust you. You got that?" he said not breaking eye contact.  I gave him a small nod.  He pointed to a small cubicle inside his office without saying a word.  "I'll be there when you need me, I guess." I said.  "Take your coffee with you, Kenneth." he says as eyes the other coffee on his table.  "Yes, sir." I said as I took the coffee. I made my way to my cubicle and set my things down. I put my bag under the table and started organizing the things on the desk. When I was finally happy with how my desk looked I looked up to see Jeffrey staring at me.  I felt heat rush to my face as soon as I realized he could've been watching me do all that.  How embarrassing.  I hung my head down and pretended to organize my desk again.  Ah! That was so freaking embarrassing! I can't believe that he was watching me!  "Kenneth." he suddenly said. I felt all the hair on my body suddenly stood up and it was like cold water was poured down my back.  I slowly looked up to him.  "Y-Yes, s-si-sir?" I stuttered out.  "Have these signed will you? And don't forget to produce another copy after they've been signed." he said and ushered me away with his hand.  "Yes, sir." I said.  All day, I did nothing but errands for him. Being his personal assistant is practically just like being his errand boy. It's not so bad. I don't get why people can't last being his personal assistant.  The following day, it's as if fate has heard my thoughts and wanted to show me a taste of what it's really like to be his assistant.  "I already told you no!" he yelled.  His voice was echoing through the halls at 7 in the morning. I could also hear a bunch of his things breaking.  I looked at Jessica, and she just pursed her lips and jerked her head towards his office.  I point to myself.  "Me?? I'm supposed to deal with that?" I whisper yelled at her.  Jessica just shrugged her shoulders and sighs.  I knock at the door, and slowly poke my head in.  "Sir?" I piqued.  I can hear his uneven breathing was slowly starting to become calmer.  "Do you want me to get you coffee?" I quietly asked. I was afraid to make my voice louder or stick more than a head in his office.  "Okay." he says as he takes a deep breath in.  "Okay," I replied.  I slowly pull my head out of his office only to find the people on the floor staring at me with wide eyes.  I shook my head to regain my focus to get coffee for him.  I jogged to the nearest Starbucks and ordered a venti caffè americano. I tossed in a chocolate eclair in there as well. Everybody feels better after taking chocolate in their body.  I jogged back to his office and knocked. I went inside after I heard a grunt.  "I'm back!" I announced with a smile. I excitedly placed the coffee and the food on his table without a word. I smiled at him, and headed to my cubicle.  On my desk he placed a bunch of papers that had the company's products that needed to be reviewed and tested today. I sorted it out from least to greatest priority, and placed the folders in my bag.  "I'll go do these first. Just send me a message if you need anything else." I smiled at him and headed out.  Jessica's POV The monster seemed to calm quicker than I've seen him. I took the risk and looked inside his office. There was a bag of Starbucks on his desk but he wasn't touching it.  Kenneth headed out of the office which made me face my desk again. "Jess, if there's anything he needs please message me. I'm off to do these errands," he said.  "I will, and you do the same," I replied.  Kenneth headed off to do whatever it is Jeffrey asked him to do. As soon as Kenneth was gone, I peeked back in Jeffrey's office.  He looked around to make sure nobody was watching him, like he was making sure Kenneth was gone.  He peeked inside the paper bag and pulled out his coffee and what looked like a chocolate eclair.  His expression seemed to soften, and as he took a bite of the eclair he seemed to be in a better mood.
