Birthday Celebration

I came out of the bathroom and heard the land phone ringing. I wondered who was calling at this hour  and picked up the phone and heard Myra asking concernedly, “Lauren are you all right, I have been calling you since the past half an hour but you did not pick up the phone, so I dialed the landline.”

I relented for making Myra worried as I had slept in the bathtub and did not think about the time so,  I apologized and said, “I am sorry Myra, I was just taking a shower. Is everything all right?’

Myra assured that everything was fine and the cake had arrived. I don’t know how you ,managed to arrange such a beautiful cake. I will talk about it when I get back home. Anyways the reason I called you was to let you know that Noah had called as you were unreachable and he was worried, so he called me I assured him that you were fine.

I almost forgot that he is supposed to arrive tomorrow morning. I will call him right away. I spoke hurriedly.

No, need, Myra replied. He had just called to inform us that they were back at the hotel and will be having early dinner and sleep early as they have early morning flight. So, do not worry, just rest they are fine.

Hearing this I felt a little better and relented as I had been so busy that I forgot Noah is coming back tomorrow.

Myra said she had to get back to the party and hung up.

In the Lang ford villa, everyone was waiting for the two grannies to arrive and especially granny Lia as it was her special day.

Myra, who was standing at the corner was observing the entire hall filled with distinguished guest, half of them were not recognizable as she had never seen them in San Martin, and when she enquired someone she came to know they were guest who had come from different countries  and that they were Mrs. Lang ford's friends. They had flown down especially, to celebrate Grandma Lia’s birthday, who is Mrs. Lang ford's older sister.

Hearing this Myra wondered, Grandma Lia seems to be an incredibly famous personality and she turned her head around and saw someone’s deep gaze looking at her. It was none other than Carlos, she nodded her head and smiled. He smiled and nodded back. Then headed towards the door.

Myra had already met Carlos and had known that she would bump into him today and so she was prepared. But something was fishy between Carlos and Lauren and she was very curious to know what it was.

After some time, Myra heard someone shout that the grannies have arrived and as everyone waited the two beautiful ladies walked in. Myra observed both the sisters had the same dimpled cheeks and their faces glowed in the light and their smiles were radiant. Though she had known Mrs. Lang ford for a long time, this is the first time she is seeing her older sister. Suddenly the youngsters in the house started bursting the balloons and started singing the birthday song, even Myra joined in.

 Every one gathered around the two grannies and brought them to the center of the hall, where a four platformed cake was standing looking very tempting and delicious.’ Grandma Lia, please cut the cake  fast or my stomach will kill me, its asking me that cake since the time I walked here and saw the cake.’ Tim, who was the son of DR. Leo spoke looking at the cake greedily.

“Son you should tell your tummy to wait for another minute.” Dr. Leo patted Tim’s face lovingly.

And everyone started laughing.

Tim was very plumy and cute little guy and Dr. Leo always wondered did he get his appetite he was always hungry.

Then Carlos who was standing near Grandma Lia urged her to cut the cake.

 Grandma Lia observed the cake and exclaimed, “Is this blue berry strawberry cheesecake?’.

Yes, Grandma, I hope you like the cake, said Carlos.

Grandma Lia turned towards the cake and started cutting the cake and everyone sang the birthday song. She cut a big piece and gave it to Tim, who was watching eagerly.

She smiled and went to the nearby sofa and sat down as she was tired of standing there the whole time. Mrs. Lang ford also joined her.  Drinks were served for everyone and everyone started enjoying themselves.

Carlos brought a piece of cake for both the grannies and saw his grandpa chatting away with the guest, so he sat down beside his granny.

Grandma Lia took a bite of the cake and was reminded of something then she continued eating the whole slice, then she asked Carlos for another one.

Carlos who was hesitant, as too much sugar was not good for grandma’s health was in a dilemma whether to fulfill her wish and as it was her special day.

Grandma Lia looked at Carlos’s expression and said, ‘Honey don’t worry the sugar quantity in the cake is very less it won’t affect my health, come on hurry up and get me another one.’

Carlos went and brought her another slice.

Grandma Lia again had a bite and was in deep thought, how can it be possible? No one knows that I like the blue berry strawberry cheesecake with small pieces of berries inside the cake and no bakery in the world makes such a cake unless special order is given and that to this perfect. unless, thinking of the possibility moistened her eyes and thought about the girl who always made the cake for her when she was alive, but she can only imagine.  

 Then she questioned Carlos, “Where did you get the cake? It is unbelievably delicious. I would like to meet the baker who has prepared this. It’s been a long time since I had such a delicious cake.

Even grandma Adele also agreed that the cake was indeed unbelievably delicious.

Just a second grandma, Carlos said and started to look around and saw the person he was searching chatting way with his grandpa he signaled her to come over.

Myra wondered what was wrong and immediately came towards him.

Is everything all right sir? She inquired worriedly.

Carlos just smiled and said, “Everything is fine. My grandma wants to meet the person who has baked the cake, so I called you. Grandma this is Miss. Myra James who has arranged the decoration and the cake for your birthday party.’

Mrs. Lang ford who was sitting quietly got up and gave Myra a big hug and said, ‘ Isn’t she gorgeous Lia, beauty with brains, I have been using their boutique for a many occasions at the villa and they never disappoint me. I am incredibly happy that you like the arrangement big sister and thank you Myra to you and Lauren. You always give your best in everything you do.”

Myra was taken aback and was also incredibly happy and thanked them for giving them a chance. She promised that she would pass on the compliment to the baker and arrange a meeting with the baker.

Seeing that everything was going good Myra signaled her assistant to come over and informed Mrs. Lang ford that they were leaving but Mrs. Lang ford insisted hat they stay for the dinner. Myra had no choice but to stay till the dinner.

After the dinner, her assistant Ben took her leave saying he needed to go somewhere and left. Soon after that she gathered her purse and was about leave. but suddenly Carlos appeared near the door and insisted on walking her to the parking area.

Watching the two of them walk out Grandma Adele smiled with satisfaction and went to where her older sister was sitting and asked. “Do you think Carlos might be interested in Myra? She is beautiful and Carlos was looking at her the whole evening.”

Grandma Lia looked at her sister thoughtfully but did not reply. She then excused herself saying she was tired and wanted to rest.

Grandma Adele did not stop her and wondered whether she said something wrong? She just wanted to see Carlos happy.
