Chapter 5: Blake

               My 18th birthday was coming up in a few months, my dad had been getting ready to pass down the Alpha title over to me so he could finally retire. I didn’t feel right receiving the Alpha title all to myself. I have a twin brother and I believed that we should share the title together. Our father wouldn’t have it though, he said the Alpha position was only passed down to the eldest son and only one Alpha could rule over one pack, as having more than one could create conflict within the pack and make us an easy target, so, I let it go.

               I had been training and working really hard nonstop, I was in serious need of a break. BOOM! Derek slammed the door to my office open and I jumped from my seat ready to attack “Blake! I have some great news brother” he smiled over at me knowing what he had just done “what the f**k Derek! I thought we were under attack, I was about to lounge at you” I said angrily “yeah whatever, I came over because it’s Halloween and I need to know why you’re still working” “ I have to, our birthday is in a few weeks and Dad is going to name me the new Alpha after we shift for the first time. I have to be prepared to take over for when that happens” I said sitting back down “you look tired, and just because you’re going to be Alpha doesn’t mean that you can’t take a break from time to time. There is a big Halloween party in the city tonight and you should come with me, let loose a little” he smirked. I didn’t need much convincing he was right I needed a break, and this was the perfect opportunity “alright let’s go.”

               Derek drove us to the city, some popular kid from school was throwing the party at his place since his parents were gone, it was going to be packed. When we arrived, there were more people than I thought there would be, I guess this kid is more popular than I thought. I sniffed the air and could tell that we weren’t the only werewolves here, probably wolves from other packs as well. I think there was some other creatures too, but whatever this is a party, and we were here to have fun, and not have a care in the world, clearly this kid knew what he was doing. I was downing alcohol like it was water flirting with any girl that came my way that were equally as drunk as I was, I was having a good time. Suddenly I didn’t feel so good, I went to look for Derek so that we could leave. I found him making out with a random chick, while one of his hands was stroking down the pants of another. “Hey bro I’m not feeling too good I think we should go” I interrupted him “seriously! Now? The party was just getting good” he smirked at the girl he was rubbing while taking his hand out of her pants “now! please” I begged just as he was about to start kissing the other girl, he sighed giving her an apologetic look “fine” he said while standing up.

               We were both pretty drunk and got lost while trying to drive back home, we slowed down to a stop and got out of the car to see if we recognized our surroundings. It was now coming up to midnight and it was a blood moon tonight. That meant that Witches would be out and about performing rituals, we did not want to accidently bump into some of them, it could end up bad. Suddenly Derek dropped to the ground with a grunt of pain, I quickly ran to his side only to be hit with the most painful feeling I had ever experienced. I dropped to my knees and hands and looked up to where Derek was “what’s happening?” he asked with pain in his voice “I don’t know, we must have trespassed on Witch territory” I said as another wave of pain hit me again.

               The pain started to get worse, then suddenly I heard the crack of bones breaking. What the hell? I thought to myself. I looked over at Derek and saw that he was twisting as his bones were repeatedly breaking, he was yelling in pain, I wanted to go to him but then my body started doing the same. That’s when it hit me, we were shifting for the first time. This can’t be happening now, our birthday is not for another three weeks “relax and let me take over” I heard a deep voice said, I panicked. “I’m your wolf Zion” “my wolf? Why are you here now? This doesn’t make sense we should still have three more weeks!” I stated “just let me take over so the shift can be complete, the more you fight it, the more it will hurt. I will explain everything afterward.”

               I closed my eyes trying to relax, when I opened them again, I was no longer in pain. In front of me was my brother in his wolf form, he was a black wolf that was about six feet tall which was explainable, being of Alpha blood our wolves were bigger, stronger, and faster than most. “Blake is that you?” I heard in my mind, must be the mind link that came with finally getting your wolf, “Derek?” “Holy s**t it is you!” the wolf started circling me in amazement “your wolf looks amazing brother, you’re completely black, big as an Alpha should be and piercing yellow eyes” I could tell that he was smiling and he sounded proud of me “brother, you just described your own wolf” he looked at me confused, then we both turned to the car and stared at our reflections, our wolves were identical to each other just like our human forms. “How is this possible?” Derek asked “I don’t know” I responded.

               For the next few days I had been doing a lot of running, just letting Zion out as much as I could before I took over the pack, my brother had been sent to help out another pack rebuild after they got attacked, from what he said he was going to be gone for maybe a year or two. On one of my runs I came across the sweetest smell I’ve ever smelt, it stopped me dead in my tracks. It was the smell of fresh cut mangos, it was mouthwatering “Mate!” I heard Zion yell in my head “what?” “Mate! Go, look for our mate!” he growled at me impatiently.

               I shifted into my human form and put on some shorts that Zion carried in his mouth, I followed my nose to where the smell was coming from. I came to a waterfall that fell into a clear pool of water, at the very bottom of the waterfall there was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen in my life. Her skin was very white almost pale looking, with long wavy black hair coming down to her ass, she turned, and I saw her striking blue eyes. Her curves made her body look like it was made just for me “mate” Zion said again this time it sounded like he was purring in my head. I tried to move closer, I accidentally stepped on a twig making it snap, “s**t!” I whispered, but when I looked up to where she had been, she was no longer there.  

               “Damn! I’m such an i***t” I said out loud putting my hands over my face “that you are” I turn around and she was here, standing right in front of me, fully clothed in a tight black dress that complimented her curves. She was smiling at me “hi my name is Ciara” her voice was so sweet and beautiful I fell for her right then and there. “Hi, I’m Blake” I smiled back at her, she then did the most unexpected thing I ever expected from her, she stepped closer to me grabbing me by the neck and kissed me, I kissed her back, wrapping my arms around her waist, pulling her even closer to me.

               I didn’t smell werewolf on her, but I could tell that she had been pulled by the mate bond just like I had been. “My wolf I’ve finally found you” and that confirmed it for me, whatever she was I was her mate as well. We started going out and hanging out a lot, she was deeply knowledgeable about werewolves, but she didn’t talk much about herself and I didn’t push her to do it. I told her who I was, and she understood that because of being my mate, she would be Darkwood’s pack next Luna, I was beyond happy.

               Months passed and our pack had become more powerful than before thanks to her, we also had a little girl, we named her Lilith, she was the light of our hearts. On Lilith’s first birthday we decided to celebrate with a pack run, my brother was coming back, and I could finally introduce him to Ciara and his new niece, he had a daughter of his own that we would get to meet as well; this was going to be a night to remember.  

               After we celebrated Lilith’s birthday we headed outside the castle for the run, Ciara followed holding Lilith in her arms so that she could see her pack members shift and run in her honor. When my brother and I shifted Ciara looked at me in horror, but quickly shook it off probably hoping I hadn’t seen her. Why would she suddenly be scared? she had already met Zion and she’d seen all the pack members in their wolf forms before. “You ok Hun?” I asked through our mind link “you’re the Gemini twins” I’ve only heard that word before once when Derek and I first shifted, Zion didn’t say much though only that within time I would find out. “Gemini twins? What is that?” I asked her “we’ll talk after the run I promise, but you mustn’t keep the pack waiting” I gave her one last look before I let out a loud howl followed by the rest of the pack, then we took off running. I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong.

               After the run I found Ciara in our room, she was crying while looking at Lilith sleeping soundly in her crib. “He’s going to take her Blake” she wrapped her arms around me crying into my chest “Ciara, what are you talking about?” I asked concerned for our daughter and worried about Ciara “my father, he’s going to find me, he’s going to find her and take her from me” she started crying harder and shaking in fear “why would your father take our daughter? He doesn’t even know where you are, he doesn’t know about me, so how could he know about Lilith?” “there’s something about me that you don’t know. I was trying to keep it a secret but I’m afraid I no longer have a choice” I took her chin and looked at her teary eyes and wiped them away as I leaned in for a kiss.  

               We made our way over to the bed and sat down “I’m also a Gemini twin” she took a deep breath “ok?... you keep saying Gemini twin like I am supposed to know what that is” I said hoping she would get to the point. “Every thousand years two sets of Gemini twins are born, one to the werewolves and one to the vampires, for some reason they always have their first shift during a blood moon to set their powers in place” I couldn’t believe it my mate is a vampire and I was barely finding out! How come I didn’t smell it on her? “It is said that the oldest of the twins will hold powers of some sort, I’m not sure what kind of powers but they will only show up when you need them the most. Any child born to the eldest of the Gemini twins will have unimaginable strength and power, surpassing those of Alpha wolves and royal vampires but a baby born to two Gemini twins will have powers beyond those of a witch, they will be the most powerful creature known to existence. They would be both werewolf and vampire with unknown powers.”  

               I could not believe what I was hearing, not only could my pack be in danger but also my mate and my daughter as well. How many people knew of this? I started to ask myself, we would have to keep it a secret “you hate me, don’t you?” I snapped out of my zone and hugged her tight “of course not, I love you, I don’t care that you’re a vampire, I’m going to protect you and our daughter” I said reassuring her “my father is going to find her and take her for her powers” “nobody knows what you are here, your dad will not find us, and if he does the pack will protect you and their princess.”

               Years passed and nothing happened, the pack was safe, everything was calm. On Lilith’s seventh birthday though everything turned for the worse, she was out playing with my brother’s daughter Odalis when a huge wave of power spread everywhere. Ciara and I looked at each other and knew that it came from Lilith, we ran towards where we felt the surge of power come from. As we were running towards her, we saw a giant winged creature carrying our Lilith away with her screaming trying to get away, “NO!” Ciara yelled, next thing I know she shifts into a giant bat like creature and takes off after them, I was shocked, but amazed at the same time, she was incredible.

               “What the hell was that?” Derek came running up to me holding a crying Odalis in his arms, I guess now was a good time to tell him “My little girl is a vampire hybrid with unknown powers, and her grandfather wants to take them from her, for himself, she’s in danger and I have to save her. Derek if anything happens to me take care of the pack” I then shifted into Zion and took off running in the direction the winged creatures were heading. Derek mind linked me to stop and think of a plan, but I couldn’t, I had to save my little girl, and Ciara could be in danger as well, I cut off the mind link and didn’t look back, I knew the pack would be safe with Derek in charge, my family was all I could think of right now.
