Not Loosing

Jason’s POV I woke up grudgingly as a knock came to my door. I couldn't sleep all night. I had to shake Jane off my back after I brought her back home before my wolf could do anything silly. When I saw the rogue trying to attack Jane, it had shaven years off my life. Shane had acted faster than I and knocked the wolf off before it could hurt Jane. When I had brought her home, I had felt relieved, but my relief turned into anger in seconds when I realized that my order was flouted. I had specifically told the Omegas not to allow Jane out of the house under no circumstances. I didn't foresee any danger, I had only tried to guard against her running away and giving me the headache of looking for her. After I had nearly choked Annette to death, I had stormed upstairs first but I just couldn't sit still. I got downstairs again and trained alone the rest of the day and night. My wolf wanted to seek Jane out and comfort her but I was totally against that. I was not going to the moon goddess. Never! The knock on my door came again making me groan. I had returned in the early hours of the morning. ‘Who is that?’ I asked groaning again. ‘Good morning Alpha, General Leo is here to see you,’ one of the soldiers I had asked to guard the house since the previous day said. ‘Leo? Where is he?’ I asked frowning. ‘He is in your office, Alpha,’ the soldier responded, and that made my frown deepen. Leo never stopped at my office to see me. He would head straight to wherever I was. Even when Hilda had been alive, he would match to our door and knock. ‘Tell him to come to my room,’ I said to the soldier. ‘Okay, Alpha,' he responded and left. Leo was my best friend. He had been my friend since childhood. Our fathers were best friends too. His father was a general too. When the rogues that caused the m******e attacked the pack, Leo's father was away from the pack on a call for help from a nearby pack. The rogues had used magic to destabilize people and killed even the strongest. Leo and I were not in the pack house. We were in the bush near the border so we saw them make their enchantment. We had gone to a nearby pack and got help. When Leo's father returned and heard everything that happened, he removed his clothes and said he wasn't interested in being a general in the army anymore. He mourned his friend, my father so much that it almost affected his health. Leo became a general in the pack army in place of his father. ‘Alpha. General Leo insists that you must meet him in your office,’ the soldier said bringing me out of my reverie. I groaned. Why was Leo being difficult today of all days? ‘Tell him to make himself comfortable in my office because I will take a while,’ I said hissing as I got out of bed. ‘Yes Alpha,’ the soldier said before he left. I grudgingly did everything that morning. From brushing to taking my bath and wearing my clothes. I was in a very bad mood by the time I got to my office. ‘Why would you insist I meet you here, Leo when you can just come to my room and make my life much easier?’ I asked raising a brow as I entered my office. Leo jumped to his feet and saluted me, ‘Good morning Alpha. I needed to see you for logistics on your journey to Team’s Pack.' I walked to my seat and sat down. I knew then that something major was wrong. I had to sometimes growl at Leo just to remind him I was his Alpha so his sudden respectful self was baffling. ‘Sit down, Leo,’ I said, watching his expression. I then realized that he was avoiding my gaze as much as he could. ‘So Alpha. I have decided that we will take at least twenty soldiers and one other general besides me along on the journey,' Leo started explaining and he went on and on about the plans while I sat there watching him in amusement. ‘So what do you think Alpha?’ Leo asked after he was through with what he was saying. ‘I think you should man up and tell me what exactly is going on with you,’ I said. ‘Nothing is going on with me Alpha. I would like to know what you think about the plan so that I can start putting things in place,’ Leo said still looking away from me. ‘You are being petty right now Leo. You are my best friend. I know you too well. The only time you respect me is when we have company. Why the sudden coldness?’ ‘I am not being petty Alpha. I am just trying to sever any serious personal ties I have with you because, by the time what you are doing backfires, I will not be obligated to be there for you,’ Leo said,d, shrugging. ‘What did I do this time Leo?' I asked sighing tiredly as I sank deeper into my seat. ‘What are you talking about Leo?’ I asked in confusion. ‘Are you going to pretend as if you do not know what I am talking about?’ Leo asked meeting my gaze in annoyance. ‘I don't know what you are talking about,’ I said shaking my head for emphasis. ‘When are you going to stop treating Jane like she means nothing to you?’ Leo asked. ‘She means nothing to me, Leo. I don't want her in my life she is a burden,’ I said. ‘Then do away with her. Let her pick a male of her choice and mate with him. Let her go and be happy,’ Leo said passionately. ‘Are you mad? Why would I do that? Hilda asked me to make Jane my Luna. I gave Hilda my words, and that is all she is going to be, My Luna, not my love,' I said as anger coaxed through my veins at the idea of letting Jane go. ‘I am sure that if Hilda knew that this is how you are going to treat that poor girl, she wouldn't have asked you to make her your Luna,’ Leo hissed. ‘The moon goddess took Hilda from me because she thought she could replace her with Jane. I am not going to let her win,’ I said. ‘Sometimes, I wonder how a dumb person like you became Alpha. You are fighting a battle that you cannot win. Jane is your mate. You need to accept that,’ Leo said. ‘If Jane had not come along, I am sure that Hilda would still be alive and that murderer of a baby,' I said. ‘Are you even listening to yourself talk? Hilda gave her life to have that child but you don't want to see the baby. You are just a hypocrite. I don't think you truly loved Hilda because if you truly loved her, you would not want her sacrifice to go in vain,’ Leo was fuming. ‘You have always turned a blind eye to what is going on between Jane and me. Why the sudden change?’ I asked because Leo had not for one day said anything about what was happening. ‘You made my mate cry Alpha. She was here yesterday. She saw Jane in the nursery where she was crying brokenly after you had sliced her to pieces with your words. My mate was also here when you nearly strangled an innocent Omega to death because an adult on her own free will strolled out of the house,’ Leo said. ‘What was I supposed to do? They disobeyed me,’ I said. ‘I know you are cold-hearted, but even for you, that was low. That girl was scared witless yesterday by the rogue; you were supposed to bring her home and calm her down, but what did you do? You traumatized her the more,’ Leo was talking at the top of his voice. ‘I can't allow her to steal my heart. It is reserved for Hilda forever. I can't let that moon goddess think that she can win in a game that involves my life,’ I said raising my voice too. ‘That is your ego talking Alpha Jason. And I hope that you won't regret all this when you finally realize that you can't fight destiny. When Jane turns eighteen and realizes that you are her mate? I am sure she will want nothing to do with you,’ Leo said. ‘That is exactly what I want. I want nothing to do with her. She and that evil child are the reason my Hilda is gone,’ I said stubbornly. ‘And you think you need to punish them for what the moon goddess and fate orchestrated?’ ‘I am not punishing them, I am only keeping my love and memories of Hilda guarded. I am sorry that I made your mate cry but my resolve can't change.’ ‘I am putting it to you Alpha Jason, you are going to regret this. You are going to regret not loving her the way you should, and you are going to regret treating her like bullshit,' Leo said, then picked up his folder and moved to the door. ‘Please get back to me with your thoughts about the journey. Have a good day, Alpha,’ he said, then closed the door behind him. I sat there in my seat with my heart heavy in my chest. I was sure that what I felt for Jane was pure hatred so there was no way I was going to regret not accepting her. Leo actually hit a cord with the baby and Hilda's sacrifice thing. Leo has once said it but he had only admonished me then. I thought of the idea of Jane rejecting me after she realized that I was her mate and I growled out loud. She dared not try to reject me. She was going to remain beside me and be my Luna and then the moon goddess would see how I refused to love her choice of a mate for me.
