We sat in silence for a good long while, then I took a breath and continued. "He laughed at me, saying that I was soon to be his anyway, I should start getting use to...him f*****g me when he wanted!" Chris was on the edge of his seat now. As I tried to control my crying, I was shaking from head to toe. "Alex, I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to..." he started, but I shook my head. "I don't want your pity, I've lived with this for three years, but of course you just saw what you wanted to see right!" Chris looked at me, looking ashamed. I shook my head and got to my feet, and the pain shot up my leg, making me sit back down. "You'll need to stay off that leg for a while, or it won't heal." "Thank you Einstein, I'll keep that in mind!" I carefully put all my weight on my good leg, and stood up. Soon, he was standing next to me, he offered to carry me. I didn't want to, but I couldn't walk without help so...I let him pick me up. He then put in his car and drove me to Lillian's house. She wasn't home, so he carried me up stairs, and laid me on my bed. "Alex, I really am sorry, I assumed things, but I'm glad you set me straight, but I really think you can help me." "How being the bait?" "You know things more than any of the officers in the station. Would you be willing to help me? I'll even pay you under the table, of course." "Let me think about it, after today, you have leverage on me..." "As I said, I won't tell anyone anything, not until you're ready for them to find out." "Then give me tonight to think. I'll let you know." He nodded but before he left, he turned again. "For the record, yes, I am a little jealous that the dog boy got a good one." I had to chuckle. After that, he walked out of the room and I heard the door from down stairs close. I laid back on my pillows trying to find a way to get comfortable. Once I did, I fell asleep. When I woke up, Lillian was shaking me really hard. She was terrified. "Alex, honey, wake up!" "Huh, what's wrong?" I asked, feeling super tired and dizzy. As I tried to focus on her face, I couldn't. "Dear God, you're burning up!" "What's wrong?" I asked again, now feeling cold all over. Soon, John showed up, and he looked worried too. "They haven't found her. How's she doing?" "She's burning up John, she's lost a lot of blood." He looked at my leg and slowly started to unwrap it. "f**k!" I shouted. It now hurt really bad. Once they were done, John gave me a look, then up at Lillian. Her expression told me everything. "We need to take her to the hospital!" said Lillian. "This is beyond them now, we need a witch, the infection is spreading too fast! Alex, did you clean your wound up?" "No, Chr...Chris did." "How bad did it look...?" "Not that bad." Both Lillian and John turned as Chris stood in the doorway, with a woman standing behind him. The woman pushed past everyone, and came straight at me. I could see a type of halo around her, I could feel a goofy smile spread across my face. "An angel, are you here to take me with my mom?" "No, little sister, I'm here to help you feel better, but it's not going to be an easy night, I'm sorry." "What's first?" asked Lillian, but the woman stood up. "I am sorry, but you'll have to wait down stairs, this won't be easy." "No, I'm staying..No, John, she can't be alone..." "She won't be, Lillian, I'll be in here with her and Jaclyn." Without further arguing, John took Lillian out of the room. "Chris, I need you to hold her arms, and I'm going to tie down her good leg so she doesn't kick me. It's going to be a long night. Alex, this is going to be painful, but know that it's for the best or else we'll have to cut off your leg." My mind wasn't registering too much, until the pain came. Chris hugged my arms tightly. All I could hear was my screams of pain. Bits and pieces of an incantation, and a burning feeling. I guess at some point I passed out from the pain, because I didn't remember anything else. When I woke up again, everything was blurry, when I could finally focus on something, I noticed Chris was leaning against the wall, looking up at the ceiling. "Hey." I said softly, and he looked over at me, let the chair drop on all fours, and came over to me. "How are you feeling?" "Light-headed and tired, what happened?" "Well, I underestimated how bad the wolf's scratch was, and thanks to that, you got an infection in your leg." "You mean they?" "No, your leg is still there but it's going to take a while for it to heal fully, Jace, really had to scrape you a little raw." "Who's...who's Jace?" "That would be me, little sister. I'm glad to see you awake." "How long have I been out?" "Three days, you really had to fight that fever." "Three days you didn't think to take me to the hospital?" "No, this was beyond them, Alex." Jacelyn then offered me something to drink. "What this?" " It's a potion, it will help with healing, and fight off the remaining infection." I downed it, it was bitter and irony tasting. "Now rest, you had a long recovery." with that she got up and left me with Chris. "I was bad for three days. How bad was it?" "Suffice to say, Lillian kinda knows something happened, John and Dalton now know you're a slayer, and now I know you like how I smell." "What? Wait, what? How you smell?" "Yeah, you kept saying something along those lines." he had a grin on his face. "How did Dalton and John react when they found out?" "Honestly, Dalton was pretty chill, John, on the other hand, not so well." "Why?" "I'm not sure, but he and Lillian really got into it." I groaned they had just started dating, and had now broken up. "Where's Lillian now?" "At work trying to keep some of her sanity." "I wouldn't be surprised if she kicked me out of her house." "You think she would?" asked Chris, looking at me. "I don't know." I replied. I really didn't know what she'd do. "Well, like Jacelyn said, you need to rest, and I have an investigation to do." "What happened to everyone, the girls I mean..." "Well, Calista doesn't remember anything, and one of the other girls was found dead, so now everyone is pinning this on her." "What about Amanda? She's the one that ordered the attack?" "Branfield, made it seem as if she had nothing to do with it." "Of course he did. Where is she now?" "I believe a private jet that is now arriving in New York." "Yeah, that doesn't make her look guilty at all." "Anyway, I'll come back to see you later." "No, that's fine. I wouldn't want your girlfriend to have the wrong idea." "Which is?" "I'm competition for her blood sucker." He smiled and walked out, closing the door behind him. I went back to sleep, the potion letting me have a dreamless night. The next few days were awful. Dalton might've been cool at first, but he now stayed away from me, and John was avoiding Lillian like the plague. I apologized to her, and even though she said it was fine, it was very clear it wasn't. I was on crutches for a while, and that made working hard. One afternoon, I was putting some of the donuts in the display case, and taking the older ones out. I was just turning around, when I walked right into someone, smearing frosting on a very expensive suit. "Oh, my gosh!" I said and he just chuckled nervously. "It's okay, my dry cleaner isn't going to be happy with you but, it's fine." I grabbed the wet rag I had and lamely tried to clean up the frosting. "I'm so sorry, I wasn't looking where I was going..." "Oh, well, you just have to make it up to me." "How's that?" I asked, taken back a little. The bell jingled and in came Amanda with Chris right behind her. "Brother, I'm so glad you made it home safely, what...what are you doing? What happened to your suit?" "Thank you, little sister, I just came by the bakery for my favorite donuts and..ran into this beauty instead." "You actually called this hood rat beautiful?" "Girl, you live in a small town, not New York or California!" I said and the man laughed at my statement. "Do forgive my sister, but what do you say if I invite you to dinner?" Both Amanda and Chris reacted. Well, at least Amanda's mouth dropped open, and Chris for once looked worried about something. "Um..sure, I won't be able to walk for a while so.." "Can I have your number then, and I'll text you a date and time?" "Why don't you give me yours? I'll let you know when I can walk properly." He handed me a card. All fancy with his name and number on it. "William is it?" "Or you can call me Will." "Okay Will, talk to you soon." "And your name?" "Alicia." replied Amanda. I laughed. "Alessandra, or Alex for short." "Well, Alex," he took my hand in his and kissed it lightly, " I'll talk to you soon." "Yes, you will." With that, he walked out of the bakery, really smooth like, while Amanda looked like she was just slipped with a pair of dirty underwear. " Your brother is cute." "Shut up, it won't last very long, he gets bored easily." "That's too bad, you got the last loyal man alive, I guess." She glared at me, as if to remind me of the attack. I looked right back at her, she just rolled her eyes and walked out, Chris just stood there. "What?" "You accepted William's invitation to get back at Amanda, or are you really interested in him?" " A little of both, but he looks nice, not bad looking either, don't you think?" "So, what about..." "Chris, I'm not going to sleep with the man, and if that's the only thing he wanted, then..." a cold chill ran down my back, now regretting my choice. I had wanted to get back at Amanda but now I got myself into this problem. Damn it! "Don't get too comfy with them." "Yeah, like the way, you have already, with your girlfriend, right?" "The worst thing you've seen is us kissing." I froze, I wasn't supposed to know they had s*x on his front lawn, and I rolled my eyes and walked away. He caught me though. "Or was it?" "I have no desire to see anything else happening between you two, so don't...just don't go there, it's...eww." He stood right behind me, as he leaned into my ear and said. "Do you like to watch, Alex?" "You really need to get over yourself, dude. No, I'm not an on-looker. Thank you." I said, heading for the kitchen. "We weren't, you know." he said behind me. "You weren't what?" "Having s*x outside." he said with a very sultry look at me. That look had me feeling something intense right at my core. I regained myself and just looked back at him. "I don't care what you two do, and where. As long as it's not in my bed, I'm not worried." Chris grinned that sexy side grin, and finally just followed Amanda out the door.
