Chapter Twelve:Not every corpse came to life as Maa ran past, but there were enough of them to urge her to move along as quickly as possible. Thankfully, the dead were not particularly agile once they gained their footing. The lumbering mass of rotting flesh animated by some sinister force failed to gain ground, but she assumed they would be relentless. Why would the dead tire? While running for her life, she took a corner too quickly and tumbled over a shattered chair. The broken hunk of wood became an unwieldy club—anything to keep the claws and teeth clear of her body.
