Chapter Thirteen:Morgan wanted to scream at the injustice and ferocity of the surprise attack, but there was no time. In her heart she knew there was no point in complaining to the ancestors. Entreats for mercy would have gone unanswered, just like always. She was certain no one listened to her or any other suffering soul.
What hurt most—Maa must have sent the assassins out for her blood. This was all her fault. If Tsu dies… I will never forgive myself.
Kai finally showed up. He rushed past Gia and kneeled next to the fallen Tsu.
The guard shook his head and tried to push the healer away. “I’m fine… see to Gia,” Tsu sputtered.
“You are not fine. Trust me, you need my help more than the half-elf.” He pulled his meager kit from under his robe.
