Chapter 12

Amethyst's POV It's been a few days since that creep Devon Shaw went to my office. He has been calling the number I gave him consistently. And by means of 'the number I gave him', it's a number that I don't use. It's normally the number that I give the people who I'm not interested in talking to. A dummy number if I might say. He can have fun trying to contact me there. "Alice, I'm logging out early for the afternoon. I have some personal business to attend to" I told Alice as I handed her some of my finished paper work. "Okay, miss Wright" she said. I gave her a smile and went back to my office. Then, I dialed Ara's number. I had already bought her a phone and gave her a credit card linked to mine for her to use in case she wanted to buy something for herself these days. Ara answered almost immediately. "Amy?" "Hey. You doing okay at home?" I asked as I fixed some files on my desk. "I'm doing okay. Did you finish work?" "Not yet but almost. Do you want to have lunch together before the appointment?" I asked her. "I'd love to. Is it okay? Aren't you already too busy?" "It's completely okay. Don't worry about it. Where do you want to eat or what do you want to eat?" I said. I'm sure she was thinking that she was being a nuisance again. She wasn't. She's my sister and although I'm a little bit of a workaholic, I can always set aside such things for her. "I don't know yet but I can try and search for something good on the internet" I chuckled a bit. "Okay. Do you need an hour or two to get ready and find a place?" I asked. "I can do it in one" "Okay. I'll see you in an hour" I said. "Okay. See you later" Then, we hang up. I finished all that I can finish in an hour. Time and speed was essential in this kind of situations. I was still adjusting to my new schedule with Amara in the picture. It's challenging and definitely not very me but I still try. I would've never imagined being in this situation but I am now. And I'm not complaining. I'm just saying that it's not as easy as I thought it would be. As soon as I finished all that I can in almost an hour, I said goodbye to my assistant Alice and took off. I sent a text to Ara that I was on the way. I got in my car and started driving to my apartment. I got there just in time got off my car to fetch my sister. I got in my apartment and opened it. Then, I saw Ara getting out of her room. "You ready?" I asked softly. Ara nodded with a smile. "Yep yep!" she answered cheerfully. I smiled. "Let's go?" I said. Ara nodded and we made our way out. "What's the plan?" I asked her. "Well, I searched online and looked for a few trending and famous restaurants in the area" she started. Her eyes were glimmering in excitement. "Then, I found this seafood restaurant and I thought I really really wanted to go there with you" she told me. I chuckled and nodded. "Seafood it is" I said with a smile. Ara smiled widely as she linked her arms with mine. "Let's go!" she cheered. Ara and I made our way out and got into my car. Then, she showed me the location of the restaurant and I punched it in my GPS. I was never one who liked to eat out and find different restaurants. I didn't like having to go through so much trouble of researching famous and trendy restaurants to eat there once for an 'experience'. It's the same for almost everything that I do. I do it as I always do. I eat in the same restaurant. I order the same food. I stick to a schedule. I'm technically what people would call a boring person. That's me. The only exception is my designs. I like to try different designs on my pieces. That's the only interesting in my life. My pieces. My art. And my true identity. Other than those 2, there's really nothing else. That's how I live my life. I was the complete opposite of Ara. Except I was actually had freedom. She didn't. That's why she never got to do the new things that she wanted to do until now. "Are you sure you're okay with seafood? I mean, we can always try other things" Ara suddenly said. I smiled. "It's fine. I like seafood" I assured her. Ara smiled in relief. "Don't worry too much about what I think. I'm fine with almost everything" I told her. Ara looked at me with a pout. "Of course I should care about what you think. You're my big sister and I'm already so much of a nuisance to you" she said. I glanced at her. "You are not a nuisance to me, Ara. How many times do I have to tell you that?" I said. "But I am. I'm causing you so much trouble. I just suddenly called you for help and you took me in. You looked after me even when I disturb your work that you love so much" she said as she got emotional again. Ara teared up and I sighed. "You're my little sister, Amara. My work is important but nothing is more important than the people I love. I do love my work but I will always love you more, okay?" I said giving her reassurance. She needed that. She needed to know that I'm always here for here no matter what. Specially since I haven't always been there for her for so many years. This is the least I can do for her to make up for all of the lost years. "Amy" she said wiping her tears. I chuckled and smiled at her. "Don't worry about it too much, okay? I'm your big sister. I should spoil you as much as I can" I said and winked at her. Ara giggled. After a while, we finally reached the restaurant and I parked the car. Ara and I got off and went inside. We sat on an empty table and a waiter took our order. Ara and I ordered some lobster, shrimp and clams. "Thank you" we said and gave back the menu before the waiter left. "How was work?" Ara started the conversation. "The usual. I do have to meet up with the models for the fashion show soon" I said. "You meet the models beforehand too?" she asked curiously. "Of course I do" I said. Then, our drinks came. "Thank you" we said again to the server. I took a sip of my drink and so did Ara. "Do you pick them too?" she asked further. I nodded. "I normally do" I said. "How?" she asked. "I base it on the yearly concept of the fashion show but I have regular models as well that wear my pieces yearly" I told her. "Wow. That must be a lot of work" she said. I nodded in agreement. It was indeed a lot of work. "So how are the models usually like?" she asked curiously. I took another sip of my drink. "Like the clothing pieces, every model has something unique about them" I explained. Ara nodded as she listened to me. I watched her curious and fascinated expression. "Amara" I said. "Yes?" she replied. "Do you want to become a model?" I suddenly asked. Ara was caught off guard. But I knew better. "Me? A model?" she said. I nodded and took another sip of my drink. "Of course not! I don't think I'd be capable to do so. Specially not now" she denied and looked at her belly. "In the future perhaps. Do you want to?" I asked again. Ara looked at me as she gulped. "I don't think that I can after this" she said glancing at her belly again. "You never know. You can regain your body if you want to. Then, you can try" I suggested. I saw the glint of hope in her eyes. "Really?" she asked hopeful. I nodded. "Of course. You can do anything if you work hard for it" I encouraged her. Ara smiled. "So do you want to be a model?" I asked her again. Ara nodded this time. I smiled. "We'll work on that. I'll support you" I told her. "Will you really?" she asked excitedly. I nodded. "Of course" I said. Ara smiled even wider. Then, our orders came. Ara and I talked over lunch. She had so many questions about being a model. I could only ever answer a few of her questions. I haven't modeled after all. I design the clothing pieces but I don't really wear them and walk on the ramp on them. That's what models are for. And I'm not a model. Amara on the other hand has potential. I just know it. She has no experience at all but she'll pull it off somehow. I've seen how she is when she used to watch the replays of my past fashion shows. It's something she wants to do and I support her. Ara and I finished eating lunch. "I have to go to the restroom" Ara told me as I was paying the bill. I nodded. "Okay. Take your time but don't be gone too long or I'll assume that you fainted" I said. Ara chuckled and nodded. "I'll try to be aa quick as possible so I don't worry you too much" she said. I chuckled and nodded. I finished paying the bill and waited for Ara. "Miss Wright" I turned to look who it was. I almost rolled my eyes. "Is this a coincidence or is this fate?" he said. It was that Devon Shaw again. What is he even doing here? "A coincidence" I said with a frown. "How can you be so sure?" he said. I raised a brow at him. "Are you suggesting that this is fate?" I said with furrowed brows. "It could be. What do you think?" he asked. I chuckled in disbelief. "I think you're acting like a stalker, mr. Shaw. A very creepy one while I'm at it" I pointed out. Devon Shaw chuckled. Then he tilted his head to the side with an amused smile as he looked at me. "You know who I am now" he said with an amused smile. I couldn't help myself. I rolled my eyes at him. "Obviously. But that doesn't change a thing, does it?" I said. He just looked at me for a moment. "Why haven't you been answering my calls?" he asked. "I haven't received any of them" I said. It wasn't really a lie. I really didn't receive his calls. Atleast not on my personal phone number. "Oh really? I was sure I called you more than once" he said. I faked a smile. "Really? Sorry but I didn't know" I said with a shrug. Devon Shaw chuckled. "You gave me the wrong number, didn't you?" he said. I gave him a fake smile. "Not a fake number. But who knows?" I said. Devon Shaw smiled. "I like you. You're not like other women" he said. I chuckled. "Thank you. You're just like every other man I've met" I said and his smile slightly faded. "You don't really know that. You haven't even met me or talked to me enough" he said. I smirked. "Well, I'm not interested in getting to know you, mr. Shaw. I guess that's why" I told him. Devon Shaw smirked at me. "Oh you'll be interested in me soon enough, miss Wright" he taunted. I looked at him as I slightly tilted my head to the side in amusement. This guy has got some nerve. He's also a narcissistic. Well, I knew that from the start anyway. "I doubt that" I said. Devon Shaw only looked at me with a smile. "Goodbye, mr. Shaw. I really hope I don't ever see you again" I said and turned my back from him. "I wouldn't count on it, miss Wright" he said before I walked away. Creep. Guys like him are no good. Trouble. That's what Devon Shaw screams. Tsk. I know better not to fool around with guys like him. Or to fool around with any guy at that matter. I made my way to the bathroom to get Ara. I wanted to leave as quickly as we can. I really can't take that man's presence. I don't know why but he just irks me. Ara came out of the bathroom just in time. "Did I take too long?" she asked innocently. I gave her a soft smile. "No not at all. Are you good? Shall we go?" I said. Ara nodded. We made our way of the restaurant. I didn't look back. Coincidence or not, I'd hate to see that man again. There's just something about him. I don't know what but I don't like it.
