Amethyst's POV
"Amy, are you ready?" Ady came inside my room.
I turned to look at him and he looked at me with a smile.
"You look beautiful" he said.
I smiled as I slightly blushed.
"I know" I said and we both chuckled.
I was wearing a red split thigh velvet cami dress and a pair of white high heeled sandals.
My hair is straightened and I had a glam make-up look that was done by a professional makeup artist.
My mother picked it all out herself for me to wear for the engagement party.
"I did hope that it showed less of your skin because there's a ton of guys outside and I wouldn't want them to hit on you later. Specially considering that this is supposed to be an engagement party" Ady said with a sigh and a chuckle.
I rolled my eyes with a chuckle.
"Mother picked it out" I said.
"I figured. If you picked your clothes out yourself, you'd pick a pair of button downs and jeans to piss our parents off" he said with a shrug.
I agreed.
I'm not exactly fond of this party.
Or the people in it.
They were mostly business people that my parents and the Shaws knew.
I really couldn't care less about these people.
"Devon Shaw is waiting for you downstairs" Ady said.
I slightly frowned.
"Do I have to go to the party with him?" I said.
Ady chuckled.
"Of course, Amy. This party is for you and Shaw's engagement" Ady said.
I sighed.
"Right" I muttered.
"Come on" Ady said and offered his arm.
I took it and held on to his arm.
"Will you accompany Ara the whole time she's in the party?" I asked Ady.
Ady nodded.
"I won't leave her side so you can go on ahead and just stay with Shaw" he said.
"I don't want to stay with him all throughout the party though" I said.
Ady chuckled.
"You have to" he said.
I pouted.
"Whatever. I'll do as I please" I said with a smirk.
Ady just shook his head in disbelief.
We headed downstairs to the living room where Ara, our parents and the Shaw family waited.
Everyone else was outside in the back for the party.
As soon as Ady and I got down, everyone in the living room turned to look at us.
Then, I met eyes with Shaw.
I saw how something in his eyes that I couldn't decipher but I ignored it.
"Oh my, darling! You look stunning, Amethyst" Amelia or should I say Mrs. Shaw said as she saw me.
"Thank you" I said and faked a smile.
Amelia Shaw gave me a hug.
"You look beautiful, Amethyst" Daryl Shaw complimented.
I simply gave them a smile.
Then, I turned to look at Ara.
I extended my hand for her to take.
She smiled and took it.
Ara seemed tensed but she slowly relaxed as she held my hand.
Ara was wearing a black maternity off shoulder foldover dress and black suede flats.
The dress was bought yesterday in the mall.
Yes, with Shaw's money.
I still haven't found out what his bank account is so I can transfer back every penny he spent yesterday on us.
"Now that Amethyst is here, we should head outside. Everyone is waiting" our father said.
Everyone nodded.
"Ara" Ady said as he offered his arm to Ara.
Ara glanced at me and I gave her a small smile.
"I'll find you later" I said and held her face before before giving her a kiss on the cheek so ease her anxiety.
Ara smiled and nodded before taking Ady's arm.
"Goodluck" Ady said and gave me a kiss on the forehead.
I chuckled.
Everyone else went to go out while Shaw and I were left together.
"What are you wearing?" Shaw said.
I turned around to look at him as I crossed my arms infront of my chest with a raised brow.
"Are you blind? It's obviously a dress" I said.
Shaw's brows furrowed.
"Go back upstairs and change into something else" he said in a commanding tone.
My brows furrowed.
"Excuse me?" I said.
Shaw sighed as he massaged the bridge of his nose.
"Look, I..." Shaw said and looked at me up and down.
"Can't you just change?" he said sounding irritated.
I rolled my eyes.
"No" I said and walked out.
I made my way to where the party was being held.
Shaw caught up with me.
"Amethyst" Shaw said and held me by the arm.
"Can we just get this over with? Seriously, Shaw. I'm already pissed off enough just being here in California" I told him.
Shaw eyed me then sighed.
I pulled my arm away from him and continued walking.
Before I reached the exit to the mansion, Shaw held my hand to stop me.
"What now?" I said annoyed.
He just looked at me and placed my hand on his arm.
Then, he opened the door.
"Let's go" he said and we made our way out of the mansion.
As soon as we got, I saw the grand party by the backyard.
It was filled with people in formal wear.
"Don't leave my side" Shaw said.
"You're not the boss of me" I said.
"Amethyst" Shaw said in a firm tone.
I rolled my eyes.
"I'm not going anywhere, Shaw. If I end up disappearing beside you, I'll most likely be with Ara or Ady or I may have returned inside because this party bored me, okay?" I said annoyed.
Shaw eyed me and sighed.
Then, we walked together to the party.
Everyone's attention immediately turned to us.
Ghad I hate this so much.
I saw my mother and she immediately motioned for me to smile.
I almost rolled my eyes but I faked a smile anyway.
"Everyone, let us all welcome the couple of the night, Mr. Devon Alexus Shaw and Ms. Amethyst Beverly Wright. The soon to be groom and bride" the MC introduced.
Everyone clapped as we made our way infront.
I almost cringed.
Freaking rich people gatherings.
Everyone watched as we went up a platform.
"I'm not going to give a speech or anything. You do that" I whispered to Shaw.
Shaw chuckled and nodded.
We got on the platform and Shaw was given a mic by the MC.
My eyes roamed around as I tried to search for Ara and Ady.
But instead of seeing my siblings, I saw someone else that I wasn't supposed to.
My eyes slightly widened as she stared bacj at me.
Celine...
Celine is here.
Celine's eyes widened as she stared back at me.
What is she doing here in California?
To be exact, what is she doing in this party?
"Good evening, everyone" Shaw started.
I still kept my eyes on Celine.
She looked shocked and confused.
I must've had the same expression on my face.
"We would like to thank you for being here with us tonight for this very special celebration" Shaw continued.
"My fiancee and I's engagement party" Shaw said and looked at me before taking my hand and intertwining it with his.
I gulped.
Oh ghad.
I glanced at Celine and her mouth was opened in shocked.
Fck.
Then, the MC handed Shaw a small red box.
Shaw took it and he motioned for me to turn to him.
I reluctantly turned to him.
"What's this?" I muttered quietly.
"Your engagement ring" he said with a shrug.
Of course.
I pursed my lips nervously as Shaw opened the box.
Inside it was a diamond ring.
Shae took it out as he held my hand.
Then, he slipped it in my right ring finger.
Everyone clapped and cheered for us.
My mind was a blank.
I haven't told Celine anything about any of this.
Her being here is a mystery to me.
Shaw held me by the waist as we faced everyone.
When I looked at Celine's direction, she was gone.
I tried searching for her in the crowd but I couldn't see her anywhere.
After that, Shaw and I stepped down the platform.
I immediately removed Shaw's hand on my waist to try and find Celine.
"Where are you going?" Shaw asked as he grabbed me by the wrist.
"I need to find someone. Now, let me go" I said in a low tone so that.
"Who are you trying to find?" he said.
"None of your business" I said.
Shaw frowned.
"Amy!"
I turned to look and saw Celine coming our way.
"Celine..." I muttered.
I gulped as she made her way towards us.
"You know each other?" Shaw said and I looked at him.
"Do you know her?" I asked back.
"Devon, let my bestfriend go, will you" Amy said and pulled me to her.
"Bestfriend?" Shaw said and gave Celine and I a confused look.
"Yes, Devon. MY bestfriend" Celine said and eyed me.
"Your bestfriend is my sister?" Shaw said looking at me.
My eyes widened.
"Sister?!" I exclaimed.
I looked at Celine in shock.
"You had a brother?!" I blurted out.
"You had a fiance?" Celine mocked me.
I bit my lower lip guilty.
"It was fixed" I said in a low tone.
Celine sighed.
"Let's talk" Celine said and held my hand before pulling me with her.
Shaw followed us.
Celine quickly turned to look at him.
"Don't follow us" she said in a dangerous tone.
Shaw's brows furrowed but he stayed in his place.
Celine and I ended up on the side of the party where there weren't any people.
Celine then turned to face me with a frown on her face.
I pursed my lips.
"When did this start?" Celine said and glanced at both Shaw and I.
"We only met the other day" I said.
"And you didn't tell me anything about it when you left New York? Were you planning to keep me in the dark until you get married then?" Celine said with a hint of pain in her voice.
"I'm sorry. It's a long story" I told her.
"I have all the time in the world, Amy. How can you keep this a secret from me?" Celine said with a frustrated tone.
"I'm sorry. I really am" I said.
Celine looked at me with a hurt expression.
"Why?" she said.
"Why are you doing this? Why are you agreeing to this?" she asked.
I took a deep breath as I looked at Celine.
"If I don't do this, they'll force Ara to have an abortion so they can marry her off to your brother so I offered myself in place of her. If this was the only way that could get rid of my parents in Ara and her child's life, I'll be more than willing to do it" I explained.
Celine's expression changed.
"Amy..." Celine muttered.
"I didn't want to tell you because I knew you'd stop me but I didn't know that he was your brother. I'm sorry, Celine. I didn't mean to keep this a secret from you.
"Amy, why would you...oh ghad. No. I'm sorry" Celine said as her voice broke and her eyes watered.
"I'm sorry" I said in a low tone.
Celine shook her head as she pulled me and hugged me.
Celine cried on my shoulder for a moment till she finally recovered.
It was wrong that I didn't tell Celine anything.
But I didn't want her to worry.
I didn't want her to get involved in my family problems.
It was my way of protecting Celine.
"Amy, don't do this. Let's think of something else. We can run away with Ara. Move to a different country. Change names. Anything but forcing yourself to get married to someone you don't love" Celine said as she held my shoulders.
I slightly chuckled.
"You do realize that 'the person I don't love and is being forced to be married to' is your brother, right?" I said.
"Your point?" she said as she sniffed.
I chuckled.
This engagement party just became even more complicated than I thought it would be.
