i could barely sleep last night; all i could do was think about Alexis, her beauty was out of this world her innocence was that of a child but her body was definitely that of a woman. a woman i felt a great desire to protect.
"good morning Dr. Walker" said Martha as i made my way into my office "you have one appointment today and a walk in".
"that's good" i replied "Martha have i received any call from the hospital" i asked
"yes, yes you have" she answered "the head nurse called a few minutes ago, she said that the test you asked them to perform was very helpful and Dr. Charles was very pleased with it, the patient will recover from his illness".
"thank you Martha' i said to her.
after taking care of my first patient i picked the file for the walk in and revised it, the first thing that caught my attention was the name on the file, Ben Roberts was written on t.
"Martha can you please send the next patient in" i said over the phone
"good morning Dr. Walker " said Alexis walking into my office Ben in tow.
"this is my little brother B,Ben" she stammered once she realize i was sitting in front of her.
"oh" was all she could manage to say after.
i smiled "good morning Alexis" i greeted "how are you today.
she blinked twice before responding.
"great" she said "i am sorry but what what are you doing here" she asked
i signaled to the desk in front of me.
"i am working of course" i replied "i am a Dr., Dr. Walker to be exact.
"oh, i thought Dr. Walker was maybe a relative, i don't know your father, uncle maybe even your grandpa" she said
"nope, Dr. Walker is good old me, no father, uncle or grandfather, just plain old Ryan Walker" i responded
"OK this is a bit awkward" she said
"lest leave the explaining for another time" i said " is Ben Ok?
she seemed a bit confused at my question, i guess she is really shock about this situation.
"Ben" i repeated to her " you brought him in to see me"
"oh yes, i am sorry i was a bit surprised that is all, Ben has been coughing a lot at night and sometimes he doesn't sleep, i just want to make sure he isn't coming down with anything serious". she said
i looked over at the little boy who was still standing behind his sister.
"Ben buddy can you come sit over here for a minute" i said to the little boy
he stood still until Alexis coached him forward.
i took a look at his ear and throat and ran some test, "he has a mild throat infection, nothing serious probably just a change of climate with a few antibiotics and a few days rest he will be up and running.
i wrote him a prescription and handed it to her.
"give him that every eight hours for seven days, please make sure he doesn't miss a day" i said " it will only be effective if followed directly as written.
"thank you Ryan, I appreciate your help and sorry about earlier" she said
"no problem, it was my pleasure" i answered "besides this is what i do.
she smiled, it was the first time seen her smiled and it made her look even more beautiful.
"still on for tonight" i asked "you know me coming over"
"sure, still on" she replied
"see you around seven then" i said
i pat Ben on his head "hey buddy i will bring you some gifts late OK" i told the little boy.
his seemed to cheer him up.
"i love gifts" he said smiling
i laughed and walked them both to the door and out the clinic.
