i had invited Ryan over and had no idea what to prepare for dinner,i didn't want him to come over and not have anything to eat, after all he had done so much for Ben and me in the past few days.
Kristen had given me her number so i dialed it first, after two rings she picked it up.
"Kristen here" she answered
"hi Kristen, this is Alexis" i said "are you at the cafe, can i come over" i asked
"sure" she replied
"is everything alright" she asked
"yes"i answered
" i am on my way" i said and hanged up.
a few minutes later i was parked outside Expresso Cafe and made my way inside.
"hey you" greeted Kristen as soon as i walked through the door"
"is everything OK" she asked concern
"yes, yes, sorry its just that Ryan is coming over to my place tonight and i am not sure what to prepare him for dinner" i confessed
Kristen burst out laughing
"girl i thought your house was on fire, or you had a bad decease or something serious had happened when you called out of the blue and said you were coming over" she said still laughing
"this is a life or death situation"i said " i have no idea what the man likes and he has done so much for Ben and i, I really don't want to disappoint him.
she turned to Ben. " hey Ben would you like a chocolate milkshake and some cookies" she asked him
"yes please" he answered
she walked over to the counter and asked one of her employees to prepare he snack and bring it over while i sat Ben in a high chair and took my seat at the table.
"look, Ryan will appreciate anything you give him, he isn't the picky type, and honestly as far as favorite food, i am not sure what he likes" she said but whatever it is, here is a bottle of Italian Pinot Grigio make something that will go with this"
the waitress brought over a chocolate shake for Ben and a chai latte for me both in to go cups.
"just go" she said, " i know you have a lot to do before your date with Ryan"
before i took Ben out of his high chair i turned to her.
" so i took Ben to the doctor today, you know the pediatric clinic that is not too far from here, the one you recommended" i said to her "well guess how stupid i looked when the doctor happened to be no other Ryan Walker"
"why didn't you tell me he was a doctor" i asked
she smiled
"something are best finding out for yourself don't you think" she said sarcastically
i rolled my eyes at her comment.
"i will call you later and tell you how it all goes" i said to her taking Ben out his chair and grabbing my latte and bottle wine.
i made a few more stops on my way home for groceries and the pharmacy to pick up Ben's prescription.
once home i gave Ben a quick bath and took a shower myself i put on a pair of jeans and sleeveless button down blouse and a pair of flats, i let my hair hang loose over my shoulders and head down to prepare a quick but delicious meal.
"Ben i need you to stay and watch your show while i cook OK" i said to my little brother
as i was about to go into the kitchen, the doorbell rang, i glanced at the clock and realize it was almost seven which means Ryan was here, i walked over to the door and opened it.
"hi" he said handing me a bouquet of roses and a bottle of bubbles " i took the flowers and invited him in
"where is Ben" he asked
"Ben" i called out, "Dr. Walker is here"
he must have remembered that Ryan promised him gifts because he came running as fast as i have ever seen him run.
"hi Dr. did you bring me the gifts" he asked anxiously "you promised you would"
"Ben" i said a bit embarrassed at his behavior
"tone it down a bit please" i said
Ryan laughed
"he is just being a normal kid" he said and walked back outside only to come back in with three gift bags filled with what looked like boxes of Lego blocks.
"what is all that" i asked " i thought you said a few toys not and entire toy store.
"its not really much, i love Lego blocks and collected them my entire life, these are a few i had doubled up on so i really didn't have to buy them" he explained "besides these are toys that will help with his brain development"
"well Ben will definitely love them" i said "thank you
he handed the toys to Ben, who was very happy to receive so many toys.
" i guess i don't have to show you where the living room is, please make yourself comfortable while i get dinner ready" i said and walked towards the kitchen
as i prepared dinner i could hear Ben excited voice from the kitchen, he was happy which made me happy.
