I helped Ben build several cars and towers with his Lego blocks, after we were done i sat back and watched him play with them.
"Dr.Ryan can you help me with this one please" he said pointing to the box of blocks that was sill intact.
"Ryan, Ben call me Ryan" i told him "we are friends now aren't we"
"Ok" he said "Ryan can you help me please"
i took the ox of Lego's Ben was offering and begun helping him to build another master piece, i was so focused that i didn't see Alexis walk in.
"Alex" cried out Ben "Ryan said he and i were friends now"
"that is good buddy" she said smiling "i see you are having fun"
Alexis looked in my direction mumbling a quick thank you.
"Ryan would like a glass of wine" she asked
"sure thing" i said " what do you have"
"i am afraid Italian Pinot grigio will have to do" she responded
"that will do" i said
she left the living room and returned with a glass of wine, she handed it to me.
"dinner will be serve in a few minute" she said "hope you like shrimp pasta in cream sauce"
she walked back into the kitchen, only this time i followed.
"wow it smells good in here" i said sitting at the bar table that divided the kitchen from the dinning area.
"thank you" she replied "my mom had to work two jobs so most of the time i had for myself".
"so you practically raised yourself?" i asked
"you could say that" she answered "when i was a little girl my Mrs. Jackson my next door neighbor at the time took care of me she did so for a few years but then my mom met Benjamin, Ben's dad and she got engaged to him and was pregnant at the time, he owned his house and mom was always home. they got married right before Ben was born but two weeks after my mom gave birth to Ben he died in work accident, leaving my mom a widow with baby, Benjamin had no family so his property was inherited by my mother and once again she had to work to care for us, only this time instead of two it was three, he Ben and myself so in order to make it easier on her i took care of my brother and cook meals for us after school."
i sat listen to her story, i wanted to know more about her, about her life before Canmore.
"things were not easy for you" i said apologetically
"it wasn't" she said "but i survived it anyway"
"i graduated high school at a young age with one of the best scores through out my entire school and went on to college" she said "that is when it all went wrong between my mom and me, she was not please with my choice of career, she wanted me to become a lawyer or a business woman but i aspire differently, hell she didn't show up to any of my activities much less to graduation, then again, she died that same day"
i could see a tear streaming down her cheeks, i could resist the urge and wiped it away, she shivered at my touch.
"as you can see its only Ben and I" she added
"well you have me as well" i told her "you also have Kristen who likes you and she is a great person to have as a friend"
she smiled
"thank you Ryan" she said "you and Kristen have been really great to us, i appreciate all you have done i really do"
"now lets eat dinner before it gets cold or all my cooking would have been in vain" she added "we can talk later"
she left the kitchen and returned with an upset looking Ben.
" i wanna play more " he wined
"you can play tomorrow Ben" she scolded him "its time for dinner we are going to sit and have a good meal and then you are going to bed"
"Ben listen to your sister and i will bring you more Lego blocks tomorrow" i said
"ok" but promise me first that you wont forget " he said
"i promise" i said "i will bring you lots and lots of Lego tomorrow"
"five days and he already have your wrapped around his little finger" she said laughing "just don't spoil him, i have yet to start my new job here and i don't want all my paycheck going on Lego blocks and toys"
"nah" i replied "i already told you i have an obsession for Lego blocks so i have acquired quite a large amount of it."
"suit yourself, no lest eat" she commanded
dinner was amazing, the shrimp pasta Alexis made was amazing and paired very well with the wine she had.
she took the dishes off the table placed a few dessert plates with none other than sticky toffee pudding.
"someone told me that this was your favorite dessert" she said smiling
"it is" i said digging into my share "omg Alexis this is made to perfection, i have never had any that tasted like this"
"your cooking is amazing" i praised
"thank you" she said blushing "its the least i could do to repay you for everything you have done"
"you didn't need to do all this" i said to her "but i appreciate it either way it was delicious"
she got up and washed the dishes while i continued to enjoy the rest of my dessert.
" i have to wash Ben up and put him to bed, but you are welcome to stay a bit longer if you like" she said leaving the room.
"sure" i called after her, " i will be waiting in the living room until you are back"
after a few minutes she joined me on the couch, she looked like she had also taken a shower and was now wearing pajamas that fit her body perfectly.
"so what made you become a doctor" she asked handing me a glass of the bubbles i bought earlier
"huh" was all i could say "sorry" its a family tradition, my father is a heart surgeon and my grand father is a neurologist and his father was cardiologist, and well the only brother i have is also a cardiologist" i continued "i was the only one who chose a slightly different path"
"of course they were not happy with choice either but it didn't matter to me" i explained " i wanted to do this so i did"
"wow" she replied" you seemed to had to fit into really big shoes"
"yeah, i guess" i said
"well for what its worth, i am glad you decided to become a pediatrician, cause it seems that Ben has one of the best doctors as his doctor" she said
"thanks " i replied
"so what about boyfriends" i asked "anyone back in America waiting on you"
she blushed
"i never had a boyfriend" she admitted " i was always too focus on my goals to really cared about having a dating life"
"what, don't lie to me" i said playfully "it cant be that a beautiful woman like you never once dated"
she blushed again
"i haven't" she said "and thank you for calling me beautiful"
" i can only call it as i see it" i confessed "and you are beautiful, smart and caring"
blushing suited her especially since she was doing it often.
"its not good to flirt with a woman who has never date before" she said "she might end up falling for you"
"what is wrong with that" i asked "what is wrong with falling for me"
"its not falling for you that is wrong" she said "let me ask you a question? are you ready to leave your single life and open your heat to a woman like me" she asked
"a woman like you" i questioned "what does that even means"
"it means are you ready to open your heart to a woman like me, with baggage and pass like mine, a woman with a child who isn't hers or yours to care for" she said irritated
i took her hands in mine, she hesitated at first but gave in.
"i didn't want to say this too early but i have no choice" i said "i have been slowly falling for you since the first night we met, as for your baggage as you call it, we all have them bu yours make me want you more, i want to care for you, treasure you, love you and much more" i confessed
"your baggage shows that you are a bad ass woman who will left everything behind to take care of her own, whether its and orphan, your child or just your little brother" i explained "Alexis Roberts, you are a woman any good man would love to have" i said
she was now looking at me like was crazy, like i hit my head hard and was in need of medical attention.
i couldn't help the way i was now feeling, this woman had pushed me far beyond my limits and i could no longer contain myself.
i leaned over and without giving her chance to back down took her head in my hands and kissed her, at first i probed the terrain but it soon got intense, i could feel her ease into my embrace and i took advantage, our kiss became heated and i became aroused, i pulled away slowly catching my breath.
i turned to look at her, i could tell she was feeling the same, her eyes were glossy, her lips red from our kiss.
"i am sorry Alexis, i shouldn't have" i apologized
"you don't have to apologize" she said her face flushed
"it felt good" she confessed
"the truth is I like you, i like you a lot and i don't want to scare you off" i said "i know you have a lot going on and i would love a part of it, but i would also like to take it slow and give you your space".
"i like you too" she replied "i am not sure when it all happened, but i like you but i have never dated before, hell i have never kissed or been with anyone before and honestly i am afraid, i am afraid of not fulfilling your expectations or having my heart broken".
"i know you are afraid and so am I" i said "but i know we can make this work or we can at least try"
she seamed hesitant, but at this point i cannot withstand her rejection, not after confessing like i just did, i had to convince her.
"look, lets take things slow ok, we don't have to let anyone know until you are ready to do so but i think we owe it to ourselves to give things a try" i reasoned
"ok" she responded "lets give it a try and see what happens"
"but we are not going to let anyone know until we are sure it will work out" she added
i smiled at her and once again took her into my arms. only this time i made sure not to let go early.
