ADRIAN
“Are you ready?” I asked, staring at Cara, unable to take my eyes off her. It wasn’t my fault that she looked like a breath of fresh air.
She nodded and pulled her gaze away from me, to something behind me…or someone. s**t. I had been so entranced by her that I had forgotten about her sister who was now standing behind me.
“Yes.” Cara answered, without looking at me and went to hug her sister. “I’ll be back in a few days.” She said, and I realized then that a few days may not be enough time to spend with her.
At that thought, I frowned. What had gotten into me? What the hell was that?
Clearing my throat, I moved to pick up her boxes, extending the handles so I could roll them out of the door. “I’ll be waiting for you outside.” I told her, then turned to the sister who had her eyes trained on me. “It was nice meeting you.” Even if they were not properly introduced, because of my distraction.
She smiled at me. “Same here.” She answered and turned her gaze to Cara, leaving me with no choice than leave the two of them alone in the house.
The journey alone, outside the building was something I appreciated, as I needed to collect myself. My reaction to Cara was getting the best of me, and I needed to shut it down.
Even if we had a deal, she had blackmailed me in the first place into living in my house! Even after all I had done for her!
But I had to give it to her for being a completely different person, if I pushed the issue of the blackmail and ungrateful behavior aside.
Sighing, I rolled the boxes to the car, walking straight to the trunk so I could arrange them there. Gosh, they were heavy!
What did she even put in them?
“Women.” I muttered, and set about doing what I was doing, when I heard the distinct sound of a shutter.
Alert, I turned and looked around, but saw no one, or any kind of cameras around. The place was pretty clear and the cars parked, were only a handful. If there were paparazzi, I was sure I would see them. But I saw nothing.
Feeling a little bit out of sorts, I looked down at my wristwatch, at the time, then back at the building. Where was Cara? I needed to be in a meeting in three hours, and the last thing I wanted was to be late.
A smile perched on my lips as I thought about the new deal me and my brothers were trying to close. If we were successful with it, then I was sure more than half of my problems with the business, was solved.
“I’m sorry I kept you waiting!” Caras voice came from behind, and I turned to look at her, still smiling. A smile which only got wider as I took in her cheeerful strides, as she made her way to me.
“It’s fine.” I said, and moved to open the passenger door for her. She pulled her hair to the side of her ears and murmured a ‘thank you’ to me, before getting in.
My nostrils flared a little as a whiff of her cherry scent passed my nose, assaulting my senses.
What did I say about staying away from her again?
Hell!
CARA
The quietness of the car ride lasted for about ten minutes before I broke the silence. “So…what does being your mistress/girlfriend entail?” I asked nervously, rubbing my fingers together. The silence that had descended in us once we were on our way, was quite deafening, but strangely comfortable. And my thoughts had gotten the best of me. In those ten minutes, a lot had crossed my mind, hence the question.
Eyes still trained in the road, Adrain shrugged. “Everything a girlfriend does.” He answered simply, and even after a heartbeat or too, didn’t elaborate, making me turn to face him.
“And what exactly does a girlfriend do?” I asked, frowning at him. What the hell did he mean by everything? Was he saying we were going to go down_no! As outrageous as it sounded, it disturbed me to realize that I was looking forward to ‘everything’.
Which spelled trouble.
The s****l tension was one thing.
The kiss was another.
Being his fake girlfriend was a whole other topic.
But…this…‘everything’…
“Everything, Cara.” He said again, making my heart skip a bit. “Going to public places together, going to parties…functions…all those things.” He leaned forward a little as he made a turn to the left. “Meeting my family…”
That there…was the issue. That was the part that had me worried. The part that had Elena worried too. It was one thing lying to the media. It was another lying to his family.
If they found out…
My phone pinged, vibrating on my lap, as it notified me of incoming messages. I frowned as I tried to keep up with the count. My first reaction was to let it be and answer whoever it was later, but when it continued to ping, I had no choice than to fish for it inside the bag that lay on my lap.
There were twenty three messages. And all from Gabriel.
Something slammed in my chest as I quickly glanced at Adrian to see if he was looking at me. But his eyes were trained on the road in concentration.
What did Gabriel want?
Why was he bombarding me with messages?
Deciding to keep it for later, I made a move to put it back in my bag, when more messages poured in.
Annoyed, I opened the phone to see that the messages had upped to forty. And all were from Gabriel.
What the_
Adrain chuckled. “You should answer that. Could be important.” He said, still trained on the road.
I didn’t say a word, and unlocked the phone, going straight to my messages. They were images, and the first one that popped up, almost sent out the food I had eaten earlier.
Was that….fucking hell!
