I was shocked as I stared at Kate’s cousin.
“Why did Maddy send you?” Kate asked as she walked over to him.
Everyone seemed to calm a little, clearly reassured by the fact that Kate wasn’t worried about her cousin being there.
“Who the hell is he?” Valerio demanded.
“He’s my cousin, my lord,” she replied. “And he can be trusted.”
Valerio clearly didn’t to take her word for it, but he seemed willing to hear what Lucian had to say.
“Is she okay?” Kate inquired.
I stepped closer as well. I needed to know the answer too. We had been so worried about her and Speedy, but we had no way of finding out what was happening.
“Lucian? Is my sister okay?” she pressed again.
The answer was clear in his expression, and we all knew what it meant.
“It’s bad, Kate,” he whispered.
