Best friends

Chris's POV  My wolf was howling in agony upon learning that Violet was mated to Alpha Liam. It took all my strength to let her go. Reality didn't hit until I watched the car pull away with her in it. My heart ached, but I was happy for her. She deserves the best and being with an alpha is the best you can get. I guess I never had a chance.  I can't imagine who the moon goddess has paired me with. I can't think of anyone more kind hearted or beautiful as Violet. I love her with every ounce of me. I don't think any mate bond can erase or replace my feelings for her.  A knock comes on my bedroom door and I can sense that it's my mother. "Come in, mom!" I shout and she lets herself in with pity written across her face. She sits on the edge of my bed and brings me in for a hug. For the first time ever, I cry. Why is fate so cruel? The day that I finally confess my feelings had to be the same day Alpha Liam finds Violet.  "I'm so sorry my sweet boy. I know how much she means to you. To all of us. I'm going to miss her as well." I've been dwelling in my own sorrow, that I didn't think of who else is hurting with her being in a new pack now. "We were really rooting for her to be our daughter in law." I look up at the voice and see both of my fathers standing in the door frame. I try to smile, but I can't manage to do so.  "I think you should talk to Noah when you get a chance." I look at my father, nodding in acknowledgement. Since Noah and Violet are twins, they have always had a close bond and I bet he is more angry than upset at the moment.  "I think I'll go do that now before he burns the whole place down." That made all three of my parents chuckle.  I clean myself up and then proceed to go find Noah. I checked the basement first to see if he was letting all his rage out boxing. Nope, not there. I look out the living room window to see if I can spot him training, but I don't spot him there either. Perhaps he's in his room crying just as I was before.  I knock on his door, but receive no answer. I try to listen closely to hear anything, but it doesn't help that his room is soundproof. I was about to walk away after five minutes of standing there, when he finally opened the damn door. He looks horrible to say the least. After letting me in, I can see why he didn't hear me knocking. Every single piece of furniture was broken and thrown all over the place. Glass shattered on the floor near his windows.  Apparently he to his rage out on objects. That's better than a pack member. I feel as if he may have actually killed someone accidentally had he fought someone.  In this moment, I did exactly as my mom had done to me. I wrapped my arms around my best friend and hugged him. He tried to fight me off him at first, but then finally caved. He let the tears flow out and mine began again seeing him like this.  When we pull apart, he looks at me sternly and says, " Not a word of this to anyone." We say silent for a second, then start laughing. I spend the new few hours helping him fix his room while talking about Violet the entire time. About all the fun we had as kids and how much we miss her already. I was nervous, but I told him how I felt about her.  "Chris, I've known for a long time." He laughs. "Was I that obvious?" He is still laughing and nods his head. "Do you think the moon goddess ever messes up who she pairs as mates?" I ask him seriously. "I sure hope not, but I do worry about that often. Especially in my case." He replies to me, leaving me confused.  "What do you mean by your case?" "Please, don't tell anyone this. Nobody knows except for Violet."  I assure him that I will keep his secret. That's what friends are for.  "I'm gay and I'm terrified that I'll end up with a female mate." Oh, I can see how that would be a problem. "I believe that the moon goddess knows what she's doing. Just because I didn't get the mate I wanted, doesn't mean you won't."  "I think we've had enough sadness for one day, let's go out tonight. Just us guys. I know the perfect place!" I exclaim, eager to brighten up my friend. He instantly agrees and asks where we are going. "It's a surprise. Just toss on some jeans and a nice shirt." With that, I left his room to go back to mine.
