Chapter 11: Fate Third Person’s Point of View Lucifer stared at Venus for a minute to check if she is fine. He feels that she keeps on whispering and her face is also really red for her pale skin. Lucifer’s stare felt like prickling needles to Venus and it heightened her nervousness but it also brought forth a pleasant feeling of joy. Venus waved her hand at Lucifer to dispel his worries. “I’m fine, so you don’t need to look at me like that.” Venus pouted as she wrings her hands on her sides to not appear too awkward. “Oh, are you sure?” Lucifer worriedly gave her reddish face another look. “Hmm, just eat, okay?” Venus diverted the topic and took it on herself to hand Lucifer the glass of warm milk. Lucifer received it from her with a small smile and took a sip that lit up his eyes in an instant. Venus felt like she’s looking at a child while watching Lucifer’s vivid expressions. After a couple of minutes, Lucifer felt stuffed. “Are you full?” Venus inquired in wonder at how much Lucifer can eat. He almost finished all the snacks she brought. “Yes, thank you.” Lucifer smiled with warmth and Venus felt like an illusion of the morning light bathed her in warmth. “It doesn’t matter, by the way, are you perhaps homeless?” Lucifer did not want to lie, so he just nodded his head. “Why?” Venus quickly shut her mouth and scolded herself for being so rude. “I’m sorry you don’t need to answer that.”  Frantically shaking her head, Venus realized that Lucifer is currently blankly looking at nowhere in particular, like he’s in deep thought. Before she could say something, Lucifer’s soft but serious voice filled her ears. “I ran away from home, because I wanted to experience something new.” Lucifer dazedly stared at his hands on his lap. He did run away from his home because of his curiosity and because of a mysterious calling from his inner being. His ability to see the souls of a living human might be a part of his fate and he doesn’t want to regret not taking the chance to look for it. “What are you thinking about?” Venus curiously asked noticing a somewhat peculiar expression on Lucifer’s face. Lucifer shook his head as his lips curl up in a light smile like the passing spring breeze. “I was thinking about the deep meaning of fate.” “Fate huh, does it really need a deep meaning?” Venus absentmindedly blinked in wonder. “I do not know myself but I want to understand it.” Lucifer bitterly concluded that his knowledge as a Chief Archangel can’t even approach Michael’s tracks. “I think that fate is very simple.” Venus winked at Lucifer mischievously. “What do you mean by that?” Looking down slightly, Lucifer’s face is only inches away from Venus’. Venus choked at the sudden invasion of her personal space, but she forced herself to appear serious on the outside lest she embarrass herself again in front of the beautiful stranger she brought home. “Fate is simple because it just decides whether we grow old and die or we just die early.” Her words stunned Lucifer but he nodded in understanding at their different mindset. He is a being of heaven that does not experience death, and she is just a normal mortal that will reach the end of her life one day. The thought of her dying sent shivers down Lucifer’s spine but he just shook his head. It is not on his hands to decide the life of a mortal, and he knows that he cannot change anything even if he tries. The frailty of the human life and the creator’s love for them may seem like a big irony on their perspective. They are many of them who do not believe in his love. They hate their unfair situations but they don’t even bother to work hard to change it. Irony and regret will always follow the lives of humans, until they learn to love everything the world has given them, the good and even the bad. “You’re right that it is simple in some ways.” Lucifer responded after a minute of delving on his thoughts. “Hmm, ah it’s already late, you better take a rest then I’ll help you find a place to stay tomorrow.” Venus stood and made her way to the door before turning to Lucifer and seeing his blank expression looking at her. She immediately became flustered. “Wait, don’t misunderstand, it’s not that I don’t want you here, it’s just awkward for my parents because I only stay here on weekends and I’m not really living here, I already moved out and bought my own apartment, uh, if you want you can stay at my apartment for the time being, it’s pretty comfy and-.” Venus blabbered nonstop that even she felt that she’s saying nonsense, and as she saw Lucifer’s blanked and almost dizzied expression on her onslaught, her face began to heat up again. She did not even bother to say goodnight and just escaped in the fastest way she could. Venus suddenly had an inkling that all of the embarrassing things that should have happened on her teenage years decided to pile up on this one night, because of a stranger who is also a beautiful walking disaster. “Venus when did you become so embarrassing?” Venus mumbled to herself in a sullen tone as she enters her room with drooping shoulders. Lucifer gaped at the still open door, not knowing what happened or even what to react. “She’s even weirder than Michael.” Lucifer laughed because he thinks that Venus is also like a storm that comes and goes as she pleases. Lucifer gently lay on the bed and closed his eyes. The descent and the following occurrences filled his mind and slowly lulled him to sleep. The soft morning light filtered in through the glass door and reflected the shadows of the clouds that hung in the sky. The soft tweets of small birds woke Lucifer from his deep sleep. Lucifer didn’t think that he could sleep so peacefully on earth. He thought that he will feel reluctant or uncomfortable but he actually feels energized after a night’s sleep. Lucifer stretched his limbs and decided to step out the door to look for Venus. A huge and spacious hallway greeted Lucifer and stumped his advance. “I forgot to ask Venus where her room is.” Lucifer did not know where to go but the sudden scream full of horror that broke the quiet and tranquil morning froze him. “What happened?” Lucifer felt the thunderous beating of his heart on his chest and the feeling gave him a chill that comes from the deep of his being. Lucifer followed the direction of the scream in hurried steps and even the wing marks on his back are itching to come out and increase his speed. Lucifer’s heart felt like it is just near his ears because of the loud thumping that he can hear. The scream is still not stopping and Lucifer knows he’s near but the weight of his legs felt like a thousand pounds weighing him down. Ten steps, he is only ten steps close. First step Lucifer’s heartbeats increased in speed Second step Lucifer’s hands felt cold. Third step Lucifer’s mind is blank. Four steps Cold sweat drops on his brows. Fifth step Sixth step Seventh step Eight step The ninth step brought him to a purple-colored door. The tenth step gave him the view of the inside of the room. The view left him frozen in place as his eyes widened and turned bloodshot all of a sudden.
