CHAPTER THIRTEEN –––––––– NICK DROVE HIS JEEP down the mountain through the torrential rain, and the car often slid through the mud. Whenever that happened, Darcy feared that they would stop in one of the trees, lining the so-called road. She felt her heart in her throat and clung to the door handle with all her might. When they left the cottage, Nick had told her that they wouldn't take the main road. He didn't put it beyond Driscoll's way of thinking to have left someone to survey the lane. Nick didn’t doubt that, in the end, he and Darcy would have to confront Driscoll. However, Nick preferred to do it on his terms and at a later time. The car drive took forever.
