Chapter 4

Adra POV

Three days later

The dream and the thing watching her from the woods are long forgotten as she heads to relax at the lake on pack lands to enjoy some quiet time. What a hectic week this has been we had finals and next week is my 18th birthday and my first shift, I’m so lucky to be able to shift with Lisa I can’t wait I’m so excited. It’s a beautiful day in the mountains of Pennsylvania it’s the beginning of June so the flowers are coming out and the birds are singing.

As I walk over the hill I see the lake spread out in front of me its so beautiful I walk towards the edge and lay down my blanket, the water is still a bit cold this time of year so I’m just going to settle down with a good book and sunbath in the warmth of the day. As I sit there relaxing deep in thought I hear footsteps and knowing this isn’t a very visited place I look up startled to see Alpha Liam standing at the tree line watching me and smiling.

As I start to blush he walks toward me waving. “Hello there Adra I wasn’t expecting to find anyone up here today what are you up to?” I bow my head to him in respect before answering a bit too shy to respond right away remembering how his hard chest felt and then how his hands felt on my arms when he stopped me from falling. ” Ummm ... I’m just reading enjoying the warmth of the sun and a bit of rest since I’m officially done with finals, how about you Alpha Liam what brings you here,” I ask blushing furiously, I mean he is hot as hell. “Just was going for a walk and thought I caught your scent when I was walking up the path. You shouldn’t be all the way out here alone Adra. What if rouges came”

I just look at him for a moment a real look of concern on his face. I really hadn’t thought about that in all honesty but I’m not some weak she-wolf even though I haven’t shifted yet. I am very skilled at fighting and defending myself as I was taught by my father from a very young age. “Honestly Alpha Liam” I start to say and he cuts me off “Just Liam, we are alone here and I’m not the Alpha yet” he said with a smile looking at me “Ok well ... Alp... Liam, I come here often, and honestly I have never thought about it very much as you know my father is a pack warrior and has been training me from a very young age in my human form, but perhaps you are correct and I should head back home” I say as I start to get up from the blanket when he stops me by putting his hand on my arm softly.

“Well your not here alone anymore I think we could stay for a little while if you don’t mind my company that is?” I stop what I’m doing to look at him wide-eyed never in all the years I had known him had he ever shown interest in me or even really held a conversation with me. “Ummm .. well,” I say as I start to blush and sit back down now a bit self-conscious of myself “Yeah that would be fine” looking down at me he asks ” mind if I sit beside you?” Holy sh*t I think to myself as I look up at him, he smiles down with what I’m almost positive is lust in his eyes, but no way that could be. Maybe he is my mate and I can’t feel it yet and since his first shift was last month perhaps he feels it and I don’t? I look at him in confusion.

“Yeah of course that’s absolutely fine, company isn’t a bad thing I was just thinking about my birthday and the pack shift on the full moon” He sits down beside me on the blanket smiling as he scoots a bit closer. He looks at me and says “That’s right your birthday is in a few days, isn’t it? So you will be part of the group on the full moon I take it” “yeah I’m beyond excited but also nervous to get my wolf”

I look at him and notice he is staring at me and a small blush creeps up my neck as I realize he is moving closer to me. As my eyes go wide I lean away from him clearly startled “Uhh Alpha Liam I think perhaps I.. I .. I should be going after all” I stutter out. After all, I’ve never done any of these things always waiting for my mate with who I wanted to share all of my firsts, as I try to get up he grabs my hand to stop me. I turn to look at him not sure of what to do now if he doesn't let me leave.

Suddenly there is a leaf-shaking, tree-trembling roar all around us as I look around in shock I see those bright golden eyes staring back at me. I yank my hand from him wiping it absently on my pants ” I’m... I’m sorry Alpha I have to go now” I leave the blanket and just start to run away towards my house down the path without looking back. As I run away I strangely don’t feel like I’m in danger ... but somehow more like I’m being protected.

Liam POV

What the hell right as I was going to try and kiss her, she moved away from me, and then this roar happens. “What the fvck was that?” I ask my wolf Donavan “I’m not sure human but we might want to go ahead and leave whatever it was .... it definitely was not happy” With that, I stand to pick up the blanket she left behind. Right as I stand I hear a noise behind me in the direction she went thinking perhaps she came back for the blanket I turn saying “Adra did you .....” as I turn I see a huge Lycan standing on its hind legs stalking back and forth at the tree line as I look at it I realize it must be 8′ tall as my eyes widen I back up a little trying to decide do I run for it or what no way I can take that thing. Just then it turns and snarls at me as it stalks back into the woods as silently as it had appeared. After waiting for what seemed like forever I shift into my wolf and take off heading full speed out of there.
