Chapter 4: Alessio's P.O.V.

"Are you sure you're up for this Less?" Nevaeh asked. "Why do you keep asking me that?" I asked. "Probably because your powers have been all wonky lately," Aaron replied. I rolled my eyes. "It was just a fluke after Tia gave us this mission," I said. "It hasn't happened since." Which is true. Tia gave us, Nevaeh, Aaron, Shelly, and I, this mission a few days ago. It's a low case mission. A friend of ours that went to Anderson had been texting Aaron about something weird going on at his college campus. Something about people disappearing lately. Aaron asked me to help convince Tia to let us come out. This is the first mission Aaron has been on without Karina. I guess he didn't trust his mate around me. What can I say? She's my type. Anyway, while we were briefing on how to go about the mission, my darkness started to act up. I should probably start by explaining what my darkness is. It seems like my darkness manifested in a very unusual way. We just call it invisibility. It's exactly that, only… No one can see me. No matter how powerful they are. They can't hear, see, smell, or sense me. Not even Kee can find me sometimes. I haven't had another freak out since the very first time I got my darkness though. Not until the other night anyway. "Look, I was there when that sh.it first happened. It was scary as hell. You can't be doing that in front of the humans," Aaron said. I blew out a breath, and leaned my head back on my seat. "Just drive." I said. "I have it under control." I hope anyway. ********************************************* We arrived at the house Avery arranged for us to stay in. It's beautiful and right on the beach. Sweet, beach babes. "This place is a lot fancier than most places we've been to," Nevaeh commented. "Yeah." I agreed. "I'm glad you guys think so," Avery said as he came around a corner in the house. "Thanks so much for coming you guys. Things are.. getting weird out here," he said. "It's not a problem at all," I said. "Although, I am curious.. Why didn't you just have your father's men look into this?" I asked. Avery rubbed the back of his neck. Shelly and Nevaeh just shook their heads at me. And Aaron glared at me. "Alessio." Aaron scolded me. "I'm just asking. It's a fair question, I think. You're paying us to do this when you have a very powerful daddy with very powerful connections," I said. It's true. Avery comes from a family of royal vampires. I don't know their rank exactly, but I know his dad is powerful. Avery was the only one in his family to be sent to Anderson. From what I hear, his father is very tight-knit. The man doesn't like any other creature aside from his own. And he only respects born Vampires. My guess is, that's why Avery needs our help. Aaron said it's only been humans that have disappeared. His father probably couldn't care less about whatever is happening. "It's alright. I get it." Avery said. "Look, honestly, my dad doesn't care at all. But I do. Humans can be sh,itty, but.. Not all of them are," he said. Avery has this far off look in his eyes. Has he.. met his mate? I bet she's human. He probably thinks he can't be with her. Looks like we have two jobs while we're here. Tull said. Looks like it. I agreed. "Okay. Makes sense." I said with a shrug. "Uh, okay, cool." Avery said uncomfortably. "I wanna show you guys campus, but before we do, I have to warn you.." He trailed off. Oh great, what now? "This place is Siren territory. I spoke with them already, and they agreed not to bother any of you. As long as we all stay out of each other's way," Avery said. "Should be easy enough," Shelly said. "Alright," Avery said with a bright smile. "You guys ready to see campus?" ************************************ "If I would have known you'd make this huge fuss, I would have told you to stay at the house." Aaron gritted out. "Like I would have listened to you anyway." I replied as I looked around. People are flocking to us. It's like they've never seen anyone as hot as me before. Hey, they probably haven't. I am one of a kind after all. "Oh my god, are you single?" "You're so hot." "Are you here to check out the school? "Ohhhhh, tell me you're going to be coming here next year." "We can study together!" Holy fu.ck! These girls are nuts. They have no shame. Usually, I would be into that. Of course, none of these girls have any meat on their bones. Most thicker girls I meet aren't this desperate acting either. Still, normally I would love the attention. I'd be answering questions and making promises I have no intentions of keeping. Just to humor them, and myself. Right now though.. I feel slightly overwhelmed. I also probably shouldn't be making this big of a scene when I'm here on a mission. How am I supposed to deflate this situation? "Ladies, ladies," I said with a chuckle. "I'm just here visiting with a friend for a while. That's all." "Really? Let me show you around then!" "No, I'll show him around. I know this place better." "Maybe we should let him pick." They all turned to me. What the hell is this? Some kind of movie? Are they being serious? I frowned as I looked down at all of them. "I'm not into desperate girls. Thanks though." I grumbled. All of their jaws dropped. I turned, and pushed through the crowd. Thankfully, they all seemed to get the hint. "What the hell was that about?" Nevaeh asked. "Hey, they flocked to me." I said defensively. "I'm pretty sure she meant your attitude." Shelly chimed in. "Yeah, even I have to admit that was odd for you," Aaron said. "You love attention." I shook my head, and rubbed the back of my neck. "I don't know. Tull was getting irritated." I lied. Hey! Tull complained. "Ahh, maybe you're about to meet your mate," Avery said. I paused at that. My mate? My mate! Am I about to meet my mate? Could it really be that? I'm not ready for that. I'm not ready to meet her yet. I like being single. I like my life the way it is. I'm not ready! "Whoa.. Didn't mean to make ya panic." Avery said awkwardly. I looked up to see them all staring at me. I shook my head again, and started to walk. "You didn't. It.. was just a scary thought." I mumbled. Aaron and Shelly shared a laugh. "Keep that up, and I'll tell your mate you were flirting with other girls on a mission." I threatened him. I shocked myself with that one. I usually don't care who snickers or teases me. I never have. It might be annoying, but it never gets under my skin. Aaron turned to raise a brow at me. "Totally meeting his mate." He snickered to Shelly. I rolled my eyes at them. "Whatever." I grumbled. "There any hot thick chicks here? Skinny girls are really my thing." I asked Avery. "Uhh, well I mean I think there are some." He replied. "There's one I know of. She's really pretty, and very nice. But you can't go for her." "Why's that?" I asked, intrigued. Hmmm, something I can't have? Sounds fun. "She.. Well, no offense, but.. She's too good for you," he said. Aaron busted out in laughter. I gave Avery a flat look. "It's not like I want to date her," I said. "Exactly why you aren't good enough," Nevaeh mumbled. "Well, I doubt you could get in her pants anyway. There are.. a couple of merfolk that keep their eye on her. Trust me, it's best if you just stay away from her," Avery said. "Then why would you even bring her up?" I mumbled more to myself. Man, now I want to find this girl even more. *************************************** After Avery showed us the school, and the areas where students had gone missing, we all sat down to come up with a plan. Since Aaron was put in charge, he was the one to tell us what to do next. I guess he thought it would be best if we split up to check things out. I think the guy just wanted a break from me. As the day went on, my attitude got worse. I've never been this grumpy before. I'm not usually a grumpy person at all. Ugh, I'm turning into Ares. I decided to walk off on my own. Maybe I just need some fresh ocean air. Or a distraction. Whatever comes first. I sighed as I walked down the sidewalk. I took a deep inhale of the air. I love that I can smell the ocean from here. It's one of my favorite scents. Just then, my nose caught a different scent. It smells like the ocean, but with something else. Something sweeter is laced with that salty smell. Is that coconut? It's mouthwatering. Is it food? I followed my nose to the source of the smell. It's not food at all. Well, I guess it depends on how you look at it. I can't believe those fu.cker's were right. A few feet ahead of me is the source of the scent that's driving me wild. There is a young woman handing out flyers with a group of people. She has long curly blonde hair tied in a ponytail. Just begging me to pull on it. The woman is curvey as hell. Talk about your coke bottle shape. Damn, she's fine as fu.ck. Exactly my type. Of course, she would be though. I'm pretty sure this curvey queen is my mate. Only one way to find out. I need to see those eyes.
