Jinwoo looked at the scene covered with detectives and police officers inspecting every corner they could see. Florence, his sister in law was sitting at the end of the ambulance while a paramedic took care of the wounds that was brought upon her by no other than the criminal himself. Jaemin sighed as he looked at her.
“This is because of me, Jinwoo.” He already started blaming himself and it did not surprise his little brother at all. The first thing Jaemin would do was guilt trip himself. He couldn’t have known.
“Hyung, this is not your fault. No one knew this could happen. It just shows we have to be more careful.” He tried to comfort him with the truth. Security as well as safety procedures needed to be put in place. One of the maids was murdered and there was no way Jaemin’s family wanted this to happen again to any of their staff members again. They had to relocate or have security 24/7.
“We need to look onto the guards that were supposed to be on their place. I think it was a harmless thought but they put their guard down and many people got hurt.” Jinwoo said n Jaemin made his hand into a fist and was already ready to give them a mouthful. Jinwoo just wanted to warn them but looking at the way his brother already responded, a warning wasn’t just the thing they would get from him. They definitely would be fired.
“Are you okay?” Jinwoo asked as he tried to check up on his brother. He expected him to say ‘yes’. Not because he didn’t wanted to listen to Jaemin but because Jaemin always acted like he was okay when he wasn’t.
“No.” He simply answered which surprised Jinwoo. He looked at him and then looked over to where his brother was looking at and it was no other than Florence.
“She got hurt because of me. Jinwoo…” He sighed and closed his eyes. “When I heard her scream… I thought… I thought I was too late.” Jaemin said as his voice cracked. He blinked his eyes and touched his temple before shaking his head, preventing himself from crying.
“Hyung…” Jinwoo whispered but Jaemin shook his head. “It would have been my fault. I told her to go to our room and stay put there.”
“If something had happened to her, I would have never been able to forgive myself.” He said. He sighed out deeply. He felt the anxiety still rushing through his body and it was making him feel sick. He didn’t wanted to think about it anymore but it was hard. Each time he closed his eyes, he could see it.
“I am her husband… and I love her. I just… I am sorry.” He apologised. Jinwoo smiled, thinking that this was actually adorable. If their mother had heard this, she would have probably cry.
“I know and it is a good thing. So don’t apologise for it, Hyung. Loving someone is a gift and being loved back by that person is a blessing.” Jinwoo smiled. Jaemin smiled at him as he nodded his head and looked back at Florence. He smiled at her when their eyes locked and he started walking towards her.
“How are you feeling?” Jaemin asked as he sat next to her, holding her bruised hand. Florence just nodded her head and leaned it on his shoulder.
“I am tired and scared.” She truthfully said. It broke Jaemin’s heart. She shouldn’t be scared in her own house. She shouldn’t be feeling unsafe at all when he was with her but that has of course changed now.
“I won’t let anything happen to you.” Jaemin said and put his arm around her back while pulling her closer to him. He was afraid that he wasn’t going to have this moment with her again. The thought of losing her made him want to cry and he never ever showed his emotions like that. This was all new to him and he felt like it was attacking him all at once.
“I know…” She whispered and closed her eyes. She felt herself dozing off. They wanted to go on a date but what had happened made them forget about it. They wanted to use that opportunity to become closer and in some weird way, this situation had made them come closer than they thought they would have been.
They both knew it was forced out. It was a goodbye and it should have been a good goodbye. "I love you too..." Florence suddenly whispered while laying her head onto his shoulder. Jaemin looked at her and then looked in front of him again. He didn't even realise that Florence didn't reply to when he confessed his love to her. Everything had happened so rapidly that he didn't even think about it.
He just wanted her to know how he felt. He didn't wait to see what she would say and now that he was thinking about it, it actually would have made him nervous and anxious if Florence hadn't said anything. His mind cleared up when he realised that this was her response back to him.
She loved him back.
"I-I didn't get to say it to you... You acted so quickly. I was surprised." Florence stuttered as she lifted her head up and looked him in the eye. She looked calm but deep inside, she was stressing. Her heart was beating so much that she could have sworn that Jaemin would be able to hear it if everyone was dead quiet.
Jaemin stared at her for a while. Admiring her features... Her sweet eyes that he always got lost in and her cute freckles as well as her beautiful lips and the cute face when she was smiling. Jaemin didn't even realise that he was just lost in admiration until Florence called out for him again.
"I am sorry... Maybe I should have waited. We are both still in shock over what had happened." She guilt tripped herself very quickly. Jaemin did realise that there was something going on with Florence. He wasn't blind to it. There were times were he would notice abnormal behaviour from her.
She would act like she was fine with something if it worked in his favour. As long as he was pleased. He knew she was scared for him to get angry at her. He never asked her if this had to do with something with her previous relationship to someone else or her father.
He knew that they had met that boundary yet where they both comfortably talked about their struggles. Jaemin and Florence were very alike as well as different from each other. Florence acted out of love and was seen as this squashy happy sunlight while Jaemin was seen as the foggy, stormy person. But both of them held something inside of them that made that characteristic pop out.
"No. No. I am glad you did. It would have been stuck in my mind... I am happy that... we feel the same way." Jaemin replied. He felt like an i***t. He didn't know what he should say and it made him look stupid to her. He wouldn't have blamed her if she would have walked away from this awkward situation.
Florence smiled. Her eyes light up with sparkles, showing how happy she was because of this. Jaemin immediately relaxed and smiled back, just both of them being lost, smiling like an i***t while staring deeply into each other's eyes.
"FLORENCE!" Minjun screamed loudly for almost everyone to hear. Florence jumped up. She was startled and looked towards the direction Minjun was screaming and running from. "Are you okay? What happened?" He asked quickly when he reached the scene.
He looked at the married couple sitting cosy next to each other as if nothing had happened. He didn't really realise that he disturbed a beautiful moment. Florence looked at him confused, trying to figure out who had informed him about what had happened because she wouldn't have said it.
Minjun was very overprotective over. Especially since everything was happening with her father. He tried to protect her as much as he was capable of but it made him super paranoid. She never really told him whenever she felt in danger due to her father, Minjun would definitely do something that could hurt him or his family in the process of it and then understand the consequences of his actions later.
"H-How-" "I called him and let him know. He is like your older brother. I thought he should know." Jaemin said. Florence looked down as she nodded her head. "I will leave you to talk to him. I love you." He said again, sending chills all over Florence's spine.
She still had to get used to it. It might be harder to adapt to it than she thought it would have been. She looked at him while holding onto his hand. "I love you too." She replied before Jaemin had left her alone with the shocked Minjun. His mouth practically fell on the floor when he heard them both use these three words.
"What... the...actual...hell." Minjun said as he looked at her shocked. He couldn't belief it. They had finally confessed their feelings to each other. It was clear to him that both of them loved each other. They have been feeling like that for a long time but none of these idiots actually confessed to it until they were on the brick of dying.
How romantic and cliche.
"I know. I know... It happened today. I still have to get used to it too." Florence sighed as Minjun sat next to her. She missed Jaemin's arm being around her. She loved Minjun but she really wanted to be with Jaemin. She needed him right now and wanted to be around him. It made her feel bad for not wanting to be around Minjun. Especially knowing the he came her to check on her and the first thing she wants to do was to escape him already.
"Let me guess.. He or you said it spontaneously when you almost died." Minjun said with a weird smile around his face. Florence looked at him confused. "What?! No!" She replied back, fighting for herself as well as Jaemin.
"I wasn't dying and neither was he. We were just scared that we wouldn't see each other again... So he said it before he went to find the...-" Florence stopped talking when she had the flashbacks again. It made her shake out of fear and tears immediately swelled up in her eyes.
Minjun's jokey side quickly faded away when he realised that Florence still wasn't okay. "It is okay. You are in good hands. No one here will let something happen to you. And I am sorry for what happened." He said. The sincerity in his voice made Florence calm down a bit. There was a reason why she felt so close to him.
They had known each other for a long time and he understood her without her actually going into detail. He always understood how she felt and made an assumption to what had happened. Sometimes he was wrong but the majority of the time, he knew exactly what bothered her. And even now, he knew what was making Florence panic like this.
It made him angry because he wanted to be the one to kill him and not Jaemin. As long as he was dead, Minjun was fine with it. He didn't wanted Florence to live in fear. Although, that probably wouldn't change that much since there must be more people coming for her because of Jaemin.
"You know. It might be a bit scary but Jaemin is a good man and husband. The look on his face when he sees you hurt, it is scary. He would do anything to make you feel safe again. Believe me." Minjun said as he hugged her and let her go again to look at her. Florence nodded her head.
"I know but I want to be more independent. I wasn't even able to fight him off. I was weak." Florence said and sighed off. Minjun smiled a little. "You want to learn how to fight?" He asked and she immediately nodded her head. "I want to be able to defend myself." She replied.
"I can help you with that." Jaemin said when he came back with three hot cups of coffees in a cup holder. "Anything that would make you feel more at ease. I will train you myself." He said. Minjun smiled and looked at Florence while Florence was driven away by Jaemin.
"Really?" She asked and Jaemin nodded. "Of course. If it is what you want, I will train you." With a smile he handed a cup to her and then one to Minjun.
"You got the best husband. I need to find myself one too." Minjun sighed out. Florence laughed softly before she looked back at Jaemin.
"I know I do." She smiled.
