Chapter 3. Lauren POV

1618 Words
“There’s someone trespassing in the woods, and I am out here with Adonis!” Came a link from Jason. Me and Jackson looked at each other and Jackson was out his chair and at the door before I could even get out my chair. This pregnancy was getting quite far along now with our second pup. “Go, I will wait in the garden. Get our boy safe.” I said to Jackson as he looked at me. He was out the office door in a flash. “Chloe meet me in the garden. There are trespassers on the grounds. Adonis is out there.” I linked her. I started down the stairs as fast as I could. I knew that Jason would protect my son with his life. “He’s coming back with the warriors!” Jason linked me. “Thank you, Jason, keep safe.” I replied as I reached the bottom step of the stairs. Chloe was waiting for me at the bottom of the stairs. “I said meet in the garden.” I said sternly. “I know you would be rushing. You’re at risk of falling. We will get there together!” She replied firmly. Together we speed walked through the kitchen and out the door. We walked into the garden as 4 wolves emerged from the wood with Adonis in the middle of them all. Jason had taught them well. Adonis was protected on all sides. As soon as he saw us ran towards us. Chloe picked him up as I was far too big too. I embraced him in a tight hug, then I smelled the blood. I asked him what had happened out there, and he briskly explained. He was worried about Jason, however settled down once I told him he was with Jackson and Arron. “That’s it.” He suddenly shouted out loud. “What on earth are you talking about?” Me and Chloe asked together. “I smelled it outside mum. I smelled your vanilla frosting while I was in the woods.” He told me. “Does that mean you have been making cupcakes again mum?” He became all excited as I became worried. Chloe looked at me confused and mouthed, “We haven’t made any cupcakes.” I shook my head at her, signalling her not to say anything. “You will need to wait till supper time young man. You have to eat all your dinner up first.” I told him trying to sound convincing. He was so happy with himself. “I bet you're impressed I smelled that all the way outside, aren't you?” “I most definitely am Adonis. Now let’s take a look at all this cuts, shall we?” I told him. Me and Chloe checked him over and pulled any remaining thorns out, plus we cleaned of all the blood, there were quite a few. We counted then so that way Adonis was occupied and not hurting as much. “Now off you go, go and get changed ready for dinner.” I told him. He scampered off proudly, still thinking he had smelled my baking. Once he was out of ear shot, I talked to Chloe. “We haven’t made any cupcakes, have we?” I asked. I already knew the answer, but I had to ask her anyway. She shook her head confused. “I knew we hadn’t. Although now we need too do you think you could do a small batch. I will help.” I asked her. “Of course, I can. It won’t take long. You sit down and rest dear.”Chloe said to me. “How come he smelled it though. If we haven’t made any?” She asked me as she grabbed the ingredients for the cupcakes. “I have no idea babe.” I replied. “Jackson, is everything ok?” I asked via link. “Yes. We have found a young girl on our border, she is in a really bad way, we will take her to the hospital wing, however she’s unconscious so we can’t ask her anything.” He replied. My heart sank at the thought of a child hurt, no matter where she came from. “Ok, we’ll I need to speak to you about Adonis later please.” I told him. “Is he ok?” Jackson asked worried. “Yes, he’s fine. Just some cuts from training.” I told him. “Yes, Jason mentioned that Adonis fell into a wild rose bush, and he was checking him over when they got the scent.” He told me. “I will see you soon. We are almost at the hospital.” He added. We cut off the link. “What’s going off?” Chloe asked me intrigued. “They found a young girl on our border. She is in a bad way apparently so they are taking her to the hospital wing.” I told her thinking intently. “Oh no, where is she from?” Chloe asked. “She’s unconscious so they can’t ask her unfortunately.” I told her. “Most likely a rouge’s pup. We will need to watch her closely.” Chloe agreed with me and continued making the cupcake batter. I got up and got her a few trays out of the cupboard and placed cupcake cases inside. I began making the frosting as Chloe cooked them, together we had them done and finished in record time. Well as fast as we could. The kitchen smelled of cupcakes for sure now. “But why did he smell them outside when we haven’t done any?” I asked myself. “How am I supposed to know?” Star piped up. “I am sorry star. I’m just confused.” I told my wolf. “We need to check outside. See if we can locate this smell he found.” Star suggested. “You know Jackson won’t let us.” I told her. “But I want to know what he smelled.” She said angrily. She loved our pups but being unable to shift for months was getting to her again. “I will ask him ok. Will that make you happy.” I suggested to her. “It will suffice I guess.” She said begrudgingly. I linked Jackson and mentioned we needed to check something out in the woods. I said I would take Chloe but that was not good enough. “Me and Lynx will come ok.” He suggested hearing the dissatisfaction in my reply. “Yes, that’s fine.” I said a little coldly. “We will meet outside.” Jackson told me. “Why meet us outside? Why not come and meet us in here?” Star questioned. “I am outside babe.” He told me after a moment. I went to the back door and realised why he said outside. Lynx was stood there waiting. He was still in wolf form. I stepped outside and looked at him, admiring lynx’s beauty. Even star was happy at the sight of her wolf man. “Can you not shift so we can talk normal?” I said slightly annoyed, I mean I couldn’t shift due to the pup and here he was in wolf form. Both me and star missed our nighttime runs together. Lynx shook his head vigorously. “Fine.” I said bluntly. We headed out to the location that Jason and Adonis was training when the scent came. While on the way I told Jackson and Lynx, to see if they had any ideas. “Well, the girl we found was beat pretty badly, she is from the rouges of the eastern district, however she is unlike any rouge I have seen before. She doesn’t even smell full rouge, but that may change when she’s cleaned up.” Jackson told me. “So, he smelled cupcakes out here?” He questioned. “No, he smelled my frosting apparently.” I replied. Once we reached the spot I sniffed the air. The wind was still coming from the east and still carried a faint rouge scent. I could smell the blood from Adonis, Jason’s scent, the warrior's scent and Jason’s wolf; however, I could not smell what Adonis smelled. “Can we walk to where you found the girl?” I asked. Lynx wasn’t happy about it, but they agreed. We began to discuss the pup I was carrying. We still hadn’t found a name we liked. It took around 10 minutes to get to where they found the girl. I could smell rouges and blood. That’s it. We were no closer to figuring it out. “Mum, I’m all cleaned up. Where are you?” Adonis linked me. “I am with your father. We are coming now.” I replied to him. “Adonis is looking for me. We best head back. You had best stay lynx, you know Adonis adores you.” I told Jackson and Lynx. Lynx began to wag his tail furiously. He loved Adonis as much as us. We walked back to the pack house and once we reached the back door I called for Adonis. “Adonis. Someone wants to see you!” I spoke. Adonis opened the back door and peeped outside. Once he saw Lynx, he ripped the door open rapidly and jumped off the step at lynx. I stepped into the kitchen and watched them closely, slightly jealous that I couldn’t play with them. I placed my hand on my belly looking down, “I can’t wait to meet you little man.” I said happily.
