Drawing the Line
(Audrina’s POV)
I stared at Kade—no, Accius—as he settled back into his chair, that infuriatingly smug smile still playing at the corners of his lips. It took every ounce of self-control I had not to snap at him again, to demand answers he obviously wasn’t going to give me. I’d asked the same question three times, and each time he’d evaded it like it was a game.
What did he want?
Why was he here, pretending to help, when all he’d done was lead me around in circles and keep me in the dark? I was tired of feeling like I was being toyed with, like I was a pawn on someone else’s chessboard. And yet, there was something about the way he looked at me that made it impossible to dismiss him entirely. There was intensity there, a focus that felt almost… personal.
