Cookie hadn't been lying. The burger was definitely one of the best I had ever had. Of course, it didn't hurt that it had been made by a pretty girl too. It was hard not to full-on check her out as she walked away from the table, especially with her father sitting right across from me. But that didn't stop me entirely from noticing her hourglass figure. She was skinny but not skin and bones. You could tell she took care of herself. Her sandy blonde hair was pulled up into a messy bun at the top of her head, so you couldn't fully tell how long it was. But I would wager it fell well past her shoulders. And then those baby blue eyes. She was frankly beautiful.
As we ate, more of the guys came in, and soon the place was full of MC members. The girl out front never asked more than if the guy was eating. She knew everyone's drink orders, setting them out on the bar as the guy walked through the door. They never even asked what they wanted to eat. She would simply walk over to the window and say the guy's names that wanted food. And the orders would be made, none of the guys saying it was wrong when they got it. Tats and I hung out for a few hours, getting to know some of the guys here. By the time we left, I knew even though the move was forced. It was a good thing. While talking with some of the guys, I learned the girl behind the bar was Knuckles's youngest daughter named Summer, and the other girl in the back was named Lizzy. For the most part, she stayed in the back but every so often would come out to deliver food orders if Summer was busy. The two were obviously friends but complete opposites. Summer flirted with everyone and was very talkative. On the other hand, Lizzy was on the quiet side, simply saying hello to some of the guys then going back to the back. I wanted to talk to her but didn't think any of the guys would take it well if I followed her to the back, so I let it go for now.
The following day we met with Digs, who I instantly liked. He asked us to meet him in his office around nine in the morning, so we made sure we got to the clubhouse a few minutes early. Unlike yesterday there were only a few bikes out front instead of a mass of bikes. As we walked in, a few of the girls were downstairs as well today. For now, we ignored them and headed back to the office, knocking on the door. "Come in." Digs was sitting behind a desk with papers all over it. Seeing it was us, he sat back and motioned for us to sit in the chairs across from him. "Thanks for coming in guys, you're getting settled, alright?" We nodded, "Yeah." He nodded, "Good. Now unlike some of the other chapters, we don't own many businesses here in town and work our guys out of them. We do have a contract that is currently being re-negotiated with the bar, but really that's about it. Our income comes from deliveries made across the state. A few of them go into California. We have a few clients that have standing orders but are always looking for new contracts. We don't deal in drugs or human trafficking. But we also don't ask what's in the containers we move. For now, I am good on guys making deals. What I need are guys to help Knuckles with collections. For the most part, our clients are good at paying, but when they decide to try and get out of their bill, Knuckles is sent in. I don't question his methods." He shrugged, "He gets our money. From what I hear from your last crew, the two of you will work well in helping him out. So, for now, I want you guys to follow Knuckles and see how he does s**t. Then he will hook you up with which guys will send you work when they need back up. If you don't think this is up your alley by the end of the week, speak up. I am not a mind reader. Understood." Again we both nodded. "Good, Knuckles will meet you out front." With that, he dismissed us.
Out front, Knuckles waited for us just like Digs said. "You guys don't carry, do you?" We shook our heads, "No." He nodded, "Good. I don't take weapons with me. We are headed about three hours out. For today just follow my lead. I have dealt with this guy a few times before. Keep your eyes sharp though he has his own security team on the property, and after last time I would not be surprised if he has more than two guys this time." Tats and I exchanged a look, "Then wouldn't it be smart to have weapons?" He shook his head, "Naw, easier to use their own weapons against them." With that, he climbed on his bike and started heading out. Again Tats and I exchanged a look, then shrugged and followed behind him. This was going to be interesting to see.
We drove straight through, not stopping until we came up to a gate. We only stopped there long enough for Knuckles to open the gate wide enough for us to get through with our bikes. We followed him through, going straight to the front door. The place was a large house tucked into some trees. Knuckles pulled right out front and walked right up to the front door. Knocking only once before letting himself in. Keeping an eye out, Tats and I followed behind him as he walked through the place as though he owned it. We didn't see anyone until we got to the top of the stairs. Then a couple of guys came around the corner, shock on their faces. "What the hell are you doing in here?" Knuckles shrugged, "I have a meeting with your boss." Both guys looked even more confused but let us walk past them. Dumbasses. We walked right into one of the rooms, Knuckles shutting the door behind us and locking it. A guy that looked like he liked food way too much sat behind a desk, his eyes wide when he saw us. "How did you get in here?" Knuckles shrugged again.
"Told your men we had a meeting. They let us walk right by them. You should really invest in better security." He walked over to the desk stopping in front of it. "It's been a while, Frank. Time hasn't been all that kind to you. It would seem. I remember your team being a lot better last time." Standing, the guy shook his head. "Look, I already told Bear I don't have the money. I won't have it for another week." Knuckles shrugged, "Frank, you know I don't give a s**t. I am here for what you owe, and I won't be leaving without it. So you better figure it out because if I am late for dinner, you and I both wouldn't want my old lady coming to find me. Neither of us would make it out of here alive. So how about you open that safe you keep behind you and start counting." He shook his head, "I don't have it." Reaching forward, Knuckles grabbed the guy, pulled him forward, slamming him against the desk, and then leaned over him. It was so fast. If you had blinked at that moment, you wouldn't have even seen it. "You see, Frank, that just isn't going to work for us. You see my friends back there?" The guy glanced at Tats and me real quick, then nodded, fear evident in his face now. "You don't figure out this money situation, and I will have to let them take over. And you don't want that, Frank. You think my beatings are bad enough. They won't use their fists like I do, Frank." It was hard not to laugh as the guy looked back at Tats and me and nodded vigorously. "Let me see what I can do." Knuckles nodded, tapping the guy on the cheek and letting him go. "Good idea Frank."
Shaking, the guy got up and opened a safe that was hidden behind a picture on the wall. As quickly as he could, the guy started pulling stacks of money out and sitting them on the desk. Knuckles picked up each stack looking through them and counting. As he finished, he took two stacks of bills and held them out to both of us, then took another stack and tucked it in his pocket. "Good now Frank, are we going to have issues on our way out?" The guy shook his head. "Are you sure? If we do, I will be sending these two back up here." Again the guy looked at the two of us, fear evident on his face again as he shook his head. "There will be no issue." Nodding, Knuckles turned and headed back out. And like promised, there were no issues on our way out.
We headed straight back to the clubhouse and back to Digs office. Knuckles knocked once then walked in, not waiting for a response before walking in. Walking over to the desk and setting the money he had on him on the desk. Tats and I followed suit. Standing Digs took all but three small stacks of bills. "No issues, I take it?" Knuckles chuckled, "Should take these two with me more often." Digs raised an eyebrow. "I never thought I would hear the day you would want others with you." Again Knuckles chuckled. "They look mean enough Frank didn't f**k around this time."
I shook my head, "You did tell the guy we would torture him." He shrugged. Digs started laughing. Knuckles picked up one of the small stacks of bills left on the desk, tucked it in his pocket, then picked up the other two and held them out to us. "And I'll bet this is the easiest money you have made." Both of us raised an eyebrow. "But we didn't do anything." He shrugged, "You carried money back. Everyone gets a cut." We took the money. "Tomorrow, we have two pickups close by in town. I will text you the information and when to meet me. For now, I have an old lady that thinks I forgot her birthday." With that, he walked past us, heading back out to his bike. I looked back at Digs. "Good work for the day, guys." I was kind of shocked. That was it. "That's it?" He nodded, "Knuckles says that's all he has for the day, then yeah. As long as s**t is done, I don't care when you all do it. See you tomorrow." Well s**t. Both of us headed out. "I think I like it here." I nodded, "You said it, brother." Tats smacked me, smiling. "I am headed over to the bar. Maybe Summer will be there again today." I shook my head. "Be careful, brother. I have a feeling Knuckles is protective of his family. And brother or not, I have a feeling he wouldn't hesitate to kick your ass." He scoffed and shrugged as he climbed on his bike. I shook my head. I didn't really care to hang out at the bar again tonight. I was not sure what to do, so I decided to drive around and get to know the roads a bit better.
