Harriet's POV "The humans keep complaining of little supply of food and other supplies my Lord. Lord Edgar and I are hoping to visit the city's head Tomorrow with your permission of course" Lord Timothy was saying. They had been discussing work and business for close to an hour and by now my ears were bleeding, however this was the first time they had broght up the humans. I suddenly found myself sitting at the edge of my chair. Does this mean there was going to be more provisions? I could only hope and pray. I missed my family and while i was here eating whatever I wanted, in whatever quantity, I could not ignore the guilt I felt that my little Harvey only eats twice times a week and just once in those days. My eyes watered each time I remembered his scrawny face and large collar bones. I wished I could see him, I really missed my family so much. Lord Devon twisted his tongue in his mouth, his brows furrowed in deep concentration. "I thought we had visited the issue of supplies to them, Lady Beatrice?" Every eye in the room including mine turned over to her. Her eyes widened slightly until an uncomfortable laughter erupted from her. "I have other things to do my Lord, I could not find the time to keep up with the demands of the humans. I----" There was a loud bang causing everyone in the room to flinch. Lady Beatrice whimpered, her eyes shutting tightly. Lord Devon was angry. I pried my eyes to see him shutting his eyes as he tried to regulate his breathing by opening his lips slightly. "Lady Beatrice?" He called gently. "Yes my Lord" she answered shakily. It was difficult to remember that she was indeed a vampire when in front of Lord Devon. She behaved like a scared little cat in his presence. I didn't even blame her. Her eyes had watered already and her fingers were trembling. "Who is in charge of supplying the humans all they need?" He asked quietly again. The kind of voice you use in talking to a child that had misbehaved but you didn't want to yell. "I'm---- I'm the one in charge my Lord" she replied, her hands clutching the table cloth tightly. "Then why does this keep happening? Why do I keep hearing that they keep complaining of lack of supplies Lady Beatrice. Give me one f*****g good reason" he was yelling now. His voice deep and carrying everyone's attention. Even the servants at the door were shaky. I had never seen Lord Devon so angry and what was even more surprising was that his anger was because the humans weren't getting their supplies. Maybe Penelope was right. Maybe Lord Devon wasn't as bad as I thought. "I'm sorry my Lord, I'll get on it immediately--" "Then do that!" He growled. Beatrice chair scrapped loudly against the tiled floor as she made a run for it. She took her bag with her and I was sure she was going to put a call through immediately. The silence returned as everyone stilled. Even Lord Timothy and Lord Edgar were all flustered, they didn't behave like this was out of the ordinary to them, but they still looked quite shocked. Lord Devon stood up and the other Lords stood up Immediately making me follow. He threw his table cloth on the table and turned to leave, our heads were bowed a little until he got to the door and stopped. "Harriet come with me" I froze, my eyes widening as I peered my eyes up to find him already gone. I glanced over at Lord Edgar and Lord Timothy and they gave me a look that screamed "you'd better go out there" I didn't need to be told twice before I was scurrying after him and running up the stairs. Because of his long footsteps, he was already up the stairs in front of his study. I glanced up at him so I wouldn't loose him, climbing the stairs two by two so as to keep up. The study door was kept ajar and I stood outside it to regulate my breathing before entering. Lord Devon's broad shoulders was facing me, his white shirt being see through and causing a blush to arise on my cheeks as I recalled the earlier mornings. "Shut the door" he ordered. I did as I was told and my nerves grew. It was just him and I in his study. The silence was deafening and the only noise I could hear was the ringing of my heart. I was even sweating in my dress, between the valley of my breast and down my back. I didn't want to be around him, more or less when he was this angry. He turned to face me, his footsteps echoing in the room as he made his way to me, my breath hitching in my chest. "You didn't eat" he said when he was close to me. I lifted my head, our eyes connected and I almost gasp out at the depth of his Iris. They were a bright emerald green as I was aware of, but ever since that day at my house, I had not stared so deep into his eyes like this. I had almost forgotten what they looked like, the way they drew one in and how beautiful they looked. When Lord Devon saw that I wasn't answering, he tilted his head and squinted his eyes at me. His fingers moved in front of me causing me to shut my eyes and shake my head to clear the fog that his presence gave me. It felt like I was hypnotized for a second there. "I'm sorry my lord--" "Enough of that already" "Huh?" "You had no problems calling my name when you were locked in my Chambers, but now you can't say it?" He drawled. My cheeks flushed. "I ---" "Say my name Harriet" he demanded, his voice low and sending shudders through me. My eyes widened as I recalled one of my conversations with Penelope. She had said Lord Devon didn't like when people called his name, that he had even threatened to kill people that said his name without his permission and he wanted me to call his name? "I don't think I can do that---" suddenly his cologne was all I could perceive. He was close to me, so close that if I lifted my hands, I would touch him. My whole body was heating up and I was sure my eyes were the size of saucers right now. "I don't like repeating myself Harriet. You might actually find yourself in a dungeon" he mused, the corners of his lips lifted up in a smirk after he saw the slight fear in my eyes. I gulped hard, my body having bumps with his eyes on me. "Dev--" I took a deep dramatic breath, Devon tilted his head and a smirk found their way to his lips. He was finding everything amusing which was confusing to me. He was just blazingly angry seconds ago. "Devon" I quietly said. Devon showed his ear to me, the earring dangling at his actions. "I didn't quite catch that Harriet" the way he said my name.... I cleared my throat before moving to speak again. "Devon" I said a little louder this time. He hummed, a full smirk now on his face making one side of his dimples protrude. "Now you only call me that when we are alone alright? I don't need every servant in this house thinking they can call me by my name" he replied. I nodded but he shook his head immediately. "Yes Devon" I corrected my self and he hummed approvingly. He finally took steps back and I felt like I could breathe. "You didn't eat at the table earlier. Is there something in the food you didn't like?" I raised my eyes subtlely. I couldn't believe he actually noticed. I shook my head. "Not really. I just didn't have any appetite" "Was it because of Beatrice?" "What?" He tilted his head. "Not ---- Not really?" I asked instead. He smirked again. If he looked this good with a smirk, I wondered how he would look with a smile on. I was supposed to hate him for bringing me here but he was so handsome it wasn't fair. "Lady Beatrice can be too much, but you have nothing to fear. She wouldn't do anything to harm you under my watch." He replied turning away from me and walking over to his seat. "Who said anything about fearing her?" I retorted. Devon stopped his movement and a gasp immediately left my mouth, I raised my hands immediately to cover them, the way I had been doing lately. Devon's face was backing me so I couldn't tell his expression but I was sure going to sleep in the dungeon tonight. After what felt like hours when it was just minutes, he turned and his smirk was still there causing my discombobulation to increase. He wasn't angry? "Well good then. She can be quite scary to you lots but I like a girl that can hold her own" he mused. My heart fluttered, was he flirting with me? My cheeks turned a deep shade at the thought. Devon smirked again before settling on his seat. "So what have you been up to while I was away?" He asked, his eyes no longer focused on me but on some papers on his desk, his hair now ruffled and loosed from his tight burn shiny under the chandelier light. He was bent over slightly to read what was on his table causing his chest to be seen by me, some black markings visible to my eyes. His toned abs and muscled were prominent and I resisted the urge to stare long and hard at him. When I hadn't answer, Lord Devon glanced up at me, his eyes narrowed again. "I uh---" he placed the papers down on the table and interlaced his fingers together, his ring clad fingers, every one of them had one ring or two on it. "Do I make you nervous Harriet?" He asked as he stood up again and walked over to his desk, he leaned on it so that only half of his bum was sitting, his legs were spread a little and his fingers locked in between. I shook my head. "Not necessarily" I was lying, I didn't know why. "Well that's too bad" he drawled. A confused look settled on my face. "Do you want me to be nervous around you?" I had the guts to ask. Devon smirked again. "I like you Harriet" my eyes widened, my saliva getting caught up in my throat. "What?" "I was beginning to regret taking you from your family, even considering returning you back but....." He tilted his head again, his eyes sweeping over me and making all the hairs on my body stand under his intense scrutiny. "But?" I asked, his eyes lifted and connected to mine. "But it's a good thing you are here isn't it?" He didn't wait for my answer before he was walking away again back to his seat. I eyed him, my head hurting from trying to understand him so much. "I'll call Patricia to get you something to eat. You feel weak" he said. "I feel what?" Devon only smirked again before he was talking to Patricia over the office phone beside him. "Being Harriet some dinner" I remained quiet as I watched him work. After a while, a knock sounded and Penelope brought in a little tray covered with a cloth. She placed it on the centre table in front of the couch in his study. As she was about to leave, Devon's voice stopped her. "Penelope. Prepare one of the guest rooms for Luca, he'll be coming in the next few days" and Penelope never looked redder. Devon and Penn exchanged a type of look before Penelope was tapping me and running out of the room, a smile so bright on her face. "Are you just going to stand there?" Devon's voice pulled me out of my thoughts. I walked briskly over to the table, my stomach already growling in hunger. I peered over at Devon, his eyes was deep in his papers but I could swear he smiled.
