A Memory

It was 6:34pm and Emily had just finished having her dinner which was roasted chicken and pasta. Madam Rosetta had returned to her house which was not far from Emily’s house after making dinner. She had a family and children to take care of that is why she couldn’t stay in the Salvador’s house. Emily had done a little study before changing into her night dress, she was about to jump into her bed when a soft knock came on her door. It was her father, he walked into the room closing the door behind him. “Hey sweetheart, are you good?” He asked. “I am good dad, just wanted to get some sleep” She said placing the cover over her legs. “Alright, I just wanted to ask you if you’re still considering staying in the school’s hostel” Her father said, sitting on the edge of the bed. “Yes dad I am, it would be better for me plus it would also save you the stress of coming to pick me up every day from school” Emily said trying to cheer up her father because she could see he was not in the full argument with her idea of staying in the hostel. “I am not complaining about picking you up from school, it’s actually no big deal for me” He said rubbing his hand on his thigh. “I know but I am going to be more serious with my studies if I stay with other studies, I promise I won’t disappoint you” Emily assured her father. “I know you won’t, we can speak about it with your school’s authorities tomorrow how about that?” He asked her. “Sounds fine to me dad, you really do not have to worry about me, I will be fine and it’s just for a couple of years then I will be free from college” Emily smiled. “Yeah..yeah I know that, you should get some sleep. I will see you tomorrow, good night” Her father said placing a kiss on her forehead. “Good night dad, have a wonderful night” She smiled, laying her head on the soft pillow. “You too sweetheart” He looked at her one more time before walking out of the room and closing the door behind him. Emily let out a sigh and stared at her ceiling, she would definitely miss her father but she had to do this, she turned to look at her night stand as her eyes fell on the framed picture of her parents and herself, her mother was smiling widely in the picture. Her eyes lingered more on her mother’s beautiful round face, with her black curly hair falling down her shoulders. Emily remembered not much of her mother because she died when Emily was five years old. All she saw were pictures and videos of her mother, any time she tried to ask her father about her mother he would immediately avoid the question by talking about another thing, no matter how many times she tried to ask about her mother his reaction was still the same so she stopped trying to find out about her mother, thinking her father was still not over her mother’s death. Life had moved on, her father was her only family now and she was happy with her life now even though it wasn’t complete without her mother she still managed to be happy with her father so was her father with her. She sighed again resting her hand over her head, her thoughts went back to her school thinking of the fellow students and Anaya of course. The girl was a little bit crazy, too crazy for her. If she was going to be staying in the school’s hostel she would most likely see more of Anaya so it was best if she got used to the girl’s behavior. It was now 9:12pm and she was yet to fall asleep, she was not even feeling sleepy which was weird because she was an early sleeper, finally giving up she picked up her phone and decided to scroll through it. Just then her phone rang and Emily immediately placed it on silence, if her dad knew or even heard she was making a call this late in the night she would surely get into trouble. “Hey girl, I am so happy you’re still up” Emily immediately knew who the caller was, Anaya. “What is it Anaya? It is literally past nine.” Emily said in a low voice. “Why are you whispering? It is just past nine not eleven why are you so boring?” Anaya said “Do you need anything Anaya? I have to be asleep by now” Emily asked. “No no I don’t, I just wanted to know if you’re asleep. I really have nothing to tell you” Anaya said as she giggled. “Oh Alright, good night then I have to sleep now” Emily said and hung up the call. She placed her bed on the night stand and pulled the cover up to her shoulders, now she was feeling a little bit sleepy so she closed her eyes and sleep began to overtake her bit by bit before she was completely drowned in her dreams. Just far away from her house, a black van stood outside, A man wearing a black tuxedo and dark glasses pulled his phone away from his ear, a small smirk grew on his pale thin lips as his eyes were fixed on her window.
