Chapter 1
“Beep…Beep…Beep… Beep” I lazily look over at my alarm clock and turn it off. I absolutely hate mornings. I look across the room and see my sister making her bed. I bury my face in my pillow and groan. How can she be awake so early? Better question: why is she awake so early? “Girls get up, it’s time to get ready for school!” That’s when the world stopped spinning. I completely forgot today was the first day back! Why did it have to be today? Why does school need to start so early? It’d be much better if it started later in the day! “Oh, what should I wear? What should I wear? One wrong move, and I am a loser for the rest of my life!” My annoying twin sister, Carly said. “I don’t give a sh*t about what you wear or what I wear. Clothes are just that, clothes!” I slowly get out of my bed and lazily walk over to the closet. I dig through the drawers of my dresser and grab out a pair of ripped jeans and start the search for my favorite top. After a few minutes of searching I still couldn't find it. “Where is my favorite shirt?” I look over my shoulder towards Carly, only to see her holding it with a smug look on her face. “You mean this one?” She says with an evil grin. “Don’t even think about it!” I say as I start running towards her. She screams, drops the shirt, and jumps onto her bed. I pick up the shirt and glare at her. “That’s what I thought.” I begin putting on my gray and black striped flowing shirt while walking to my dresser to grab a pair of skinny jeans. “You were saying...” “Well, sorry for trying to look good,” I say sarcastically. “It’s our final year after all!” “Oh, shut up, you think you are so hot, but you are so not. You have only had one boyfriend in the last 3 years. I had three.” “Yeah, one for each year.” I say under my breath. “If you don't like how I look, how can you think you're hot? We are identical twins! You do know what that means, right? And FYI, I have actually had more than one boyfriend!” “Oh shut up! You know that's not what I meant! But back on topic! You had secret boyfriends behind mom's back?” “No, behind yours.” I said as I left the room in a rush. “Ahh you, you, you…” “Mom Carly is yelling at me again. She said I snuck out last night and drove the car, but to tell you the truth, she did.” I said in one breath. “Hey! That was supposed to be a secret between you and me… uh oh… did I say that out loud?” “Yes, you did. Now let me tell you a secret. You, my dear, are grounded for the next two weeks.” Our mom yelled up to us. “Mom, that is totally unfair! You know that I have a party to go to tomorrow night! I must go; everyone is going to be there! If I don’t go, I will be made fun of! It’s not fair that Kaya gets to go!” Carly yelled. “You are already considered nobody Carly! And it is fair, I never get to go anywhere by myself! You always follow! Just because you are my twin and the youngest doesn’t mean that you get to follow me everywhere!” I said. “So? I can follow you if I want to!” “Girls!” “What?” We both yelled. “Stop acting like you're five years old. You are 18, now act like it!” “But mom!” Carly cried out. “You are going to be a big sister and I don’t need you acting like that.” “Moms right Carly you need to grow up!” “Hey!” “Kaya, I’m talking to you too. You’re the oldest, and I’m going to need you to be responsible and reliable.” “Yeah, I know mom, you told me this before. I am both reliable and responsible. I’m only tired of being the oldest! It would be fine if I dropped dead right now! Ooh, I shouldn’t jinx it.” I say sarcastically as I begin walking toward the door. “Kaya stop with the dramatics! You're almost an adult, one more year than it's time for college. Now go to school, you don’t want to be late on the first day back!” “No, mom, stop changing the subject!” Carly said. “Stop talking back and get going.” Mom said firmly. “Fine, we’ll go, I’m done talking about this anyway,” I said. Carly and I walk out the door and head to the high school that’s just down the street in silence. It's warm outside and the birds are singing happily. we walk in silence for a while until Carly opens her mouth. “Kaya, do you really hate me following you around?” “Yeah sometimes." "Why?" "I like to have time to myself. I know we are twins, but we don't need to do everything together. We are separate people, but with that being said, you’re still my twin and best friend. You’re the only one I can talk to about everything and anything. So, don’t get worked up about it, alright?” “Alright.” I sigh, and we continue down the street in silence and quickly arrive at the noise-filled school, where Carly and I go our separate ways. Carly and I are complete opposites. She would be considered the fun-loving one, and I would be the cool, relaxed, mature type. Carly loves to be the center of attention. I prefer being in the background. I mean, yeah, I like to be in the spotlight sometimes, everyone does. But I find it better to sit back and watch. I am a star athlete, actor, and artist. Carly is the cheerleader, signer, fashionista, and model. We are identical twins, but anyone who really knows us can tell us apart. I walk past Carly and her friends and shake my head. Of course, she's with the Preppy girls. I walk straight to my locker ignoring anyone who tries to speak to me. I’m not in the mood to talk. I throw my bag into my locker and grab out my sketchbook and art pencils. I quickly shut my locker door and walked to the art room. This is my favorite place in the whole school. Plus, my teacher is a bada*s. He gives zero sh*ts about practically everything but art. He wears a leather jacket, has long hair and wicked sunglasses. He is the best teacher you will ever meet. I walk into the room straight to my group's table and drop my sketchbook and pencils. I pull out a chair and sit down. I hurriedly pull my sketchbook towards me and begin drawing. I might as well get started while I have time.
