Meeting Raven

{Ronan’s POV} Dominic and I made our way back to the pack house quickly. Knowing that I was going to have to face my mate didn’t make today any easier. I never asked for a mate, it’s all a part of the moon goddess’ plan, but it’s not something I’ve ever wanted. My parents keep pushing me to find my mate, or even a chosen mate, but I’d rather focus on my pack. Having a mate is a weakness, when you find your mate your entire world revolves around them. You want to please them, and live for them, I can’t afford to have a weakness. Being the strongest pack in Northern America comes with a price. For me, this price is my mate. I walked in the door and could smell her scent instantly. She had been here in the entry way not too long ago. Coffee and hot chocolate, the sweet scents poured into me, causing me to inhale deeply. Why did she have to smell so sweet? I started following the scent, I needed to question her. “Ronan, don’t you think that we should go and talk to the Jameson’s first?” Dominic asked, following behind me. “No, I want to get this over with!” I snapped. “Why are you so angry with her? She’s the one who was abused by them! She’s so sweet, and honestly she didn’t want to come forward. I saw her while she was washing off earlier and..” he began. Ajax came forward pinning him to the wall before I could stop him. “You saw her where?” He growled out. I fought back and finally regained control, releasing Dominic from my grip. He dropped to the ground and grabbed his throat, coughing. “I didn’t mean to walk in on her, I had to go get her bag from a pack member who picked it up out in the woods. She didn’t have her bag, which had her clothes in it. I didn’t think she’d finish her shower so quickly, I was just going to drop it on the bed and leave, but then she came out of the bathroom!” He said. “I don’t care..” I muttered under my breath. “You may not, but Ajax does!” He choked out. He stood to his feet and adjusted his shirt. “So.. she’s your mate then?” He asked. I turned and shot him an angry glare. “I don’t want her, I’m not going to accept her, I’m going to reject her. I don’t care about having a stupid mate, I just want to be able to live my life as the Alpha and not have to be weighed down by a weakness!” I snapped. He knew this already, I’ve told him before. “Look.. I know you don’t want a mate, but maybe just get to know her first before deciding to reject her.. at least let her heal, and shift first. You may k*** her if she isn’t able to heal the gashes on her back.” He said walking ahead of me. “I’ll wait until she heals..” I muttered before following him. Her scent was becoming stronger, I could feel her emotions as we grew closer. She was happy, scared, worried, excited.. how exhausting. We walked into the hallway by the nursery, and looked through the large window into where they were. There she was, my mate, she was short, very short. Her hair was a beautiful black color, with purple and blue hues dancing through it. Her eyes were large, and grey, they had brown around her pupils. She was pale, and her skin was peppered with freckles. She was beautiful, and Ajax was staring at her with me. He wanted to claim her, he wanted our mate, but I wouldn’t allow it. She was holding a baby, one of the pups from the pack. She was twirling around, trying to put the baby to sleep. She rocked the child in her arms and held them close. She was smiling so brightly as she held the baby in her arms, I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone so happy. Yet her emotions were overwhelming and bounced between these moments of anxiety to pure bliss. The baby grabbed her finger and began to fall asleep in her arms. She bounced, and rocked the baby gently then moved to the crib and laid the child down. She softly patted the baby’s back until she was sure they were asleep. She stood up straight and turned to look at the other woman working in the nursery. She smiled brightly, but then her eyes fell upon us. I watched her cheer turn into fear, and dread. She excused herself from the room and made her way out to us. “Dominic..” she said addressing him first. “And Alpha..” she bowed slightly then looked back to Dominic. She refused to look at me, or speak to me. “We just came back from the Jameson’s..” Dominic spoke softly to her. “I was able to find the room you spoke of, we’re going to need some blood from you to compare to the blood we found in the secret room..” he said. “Would you mind coming with us to go give a blood sample to the doctor.” “No.. of course not.. but is it okay for me to leave here? I just started today, and I don’t want to make a bad impression on my first day..” she whispered. “I personally pardon you for now, until you get back. If they ask, tell them you were going to the doctor on the Alpha’s orders.” I said turning and beginning to walk to the main entrance so we can go directly to the hospital. “Thank you Alpha..” she said, bowing once again but refusing to look at me. “I’ll be right back, I need to go grab my bag..” she said turning and carefully making her way back into the nursery. “So.. what do you think?” Dominic asked. He was really beginning to test my patience. “I think that she’s another annoying she wolf, and that she’s wasting our time going and getting her bag when we have more important things to do. I also think she’s weak, and sad. I know she’s had it rough, but to be honest, I don’t need a weak mate like that, and I plan to reject her as soon as she heals!” I snapped, turning back to look at him. What I didn’t expect was Raven standing right outside the door, she heard everything. She looked down at the floor and a single tear slid down her cheek. “I-I..” she spoke softly, and carefully. “I think I’ll go alone..” she said before turning and running away from me. Dominic sighed heavily. “Ronan, you’re a real a**!” He snapped before turning and running after her. “Raven, wait!” I heard him call after her as they both disappeared from my sight. I sighed and gripped the bridge of my nose. I had more important things to deal with, like the Jameson’s.. I turned and made my way towards the pack dungeons. I couldn’t wait to see what they had to say about all of this. Their excuse is going to be amusing to hear.
