(Narah POV)
The town was beautiful. The streets were still crowded and lively.
The people looked happy as they turned and waved at our car. Some people bowed when we passed through but most of them waved their hand.
"The pack is bonded with emotions. Here everyone has status but humanity rules over the position they have. The trust and friendship among us strengthen the bonds. Everyone is responsible to keep the pack lively" He explained.
"That is the packhouse. It is where the higher official lives. Like in your case the castle" he said as we drove past a huge gate.
The so called packhouse was huge and majestic. It doesn’t really look like a castle but it was in no way lacking in infrastructure.
He stopped the car at the entrance and almost immediately the door opened before a group of people came.
Tristan got out of the car and walked to my side. He opened the door for me and stepped aside.
"Tristan!" a female voice rose before a woman ran to him. She hugged him tightly and he hugged back with a smile.
"Hey mom"
She turned to me with a huge smile on her face.
"Hello dear! I have waited so long for this" she smiled wide before taking my hand. "Welcome to our family"
She then attacked me in a tight hug.
I froze in the spot. The hug was warm and it felt good. Something I never had. I couldn’t help but melt into the moment.
I hugged her back.
After a few seconds, she pulled back and gave me a small smile.
"Are you hungry? I made a feast!" she jumped excitedly.
We went straight to eat. The table was filled with food, some of them pretty much new to me.
"Try this… Oh and this and this" his mom said putting a part of each and every dish onto my plate.
Tristan and his father were sitting silently and watching it with a smile.
"Please stop it, your highness. I really can't eat all this" I said to which she froze.
Did I do something wrong?
Tristan burst into laughter while his father looked at me with amusement.
"Your highness? Why would you call me that?" she said with a chuckle.
"Because you are?"
"Oh, no-no. please call me Sarah."
Her response made my eyes widen.
"Your name?"
Why would she want me to call her name? Isn't she a queen? Isn't this rude?
"Narah. They are not my real parents. She is my mother's sister. My real mother died on the birth of my youngest brother and ever since then she takes care of us. She was there in our hardest struggles and at one point we started calling her mom" He smiled as the latter kissed his cheek.
"And this" Sarah said pointing to the man next to Tristan "is my husband, Tylor"
The man grinned and nodded.
"For a couple who don't have kids, these three was a blessing to us"
"Besides here we prefer calling everyone by their name. Especially if we are close. I have told you before our rule is different. In fact, every dimension has different rules and they are not necessarily called king and queen. So in order to make things easy, a general rule is made where everyone is called king and queen." Tristan said making me frown.
"Then you all are just called by names?"
"No" this time it was Tylor who talked. He smiled and leaned forward resting his head on his hand. "Here it is Alpha and Alpha-Female. Then we have Beta and beta-female who are second in command and finally Gamma and Gamma-female who are the commanders. They each have distinct authority and responsibility. On earth, a pack cannot survive without any one of them. I know it’s a lot different from where you came but I am sure with your mate's help you will do great"
He gave me an assured smile.
"If you don't find my name comfortable you can call me mom like the rest," Sarah said with a wide smile.
"Mom?" I asked but she took it as if I was calling her.
"Yes dear" she looked happy on hearing that. I know I am being rude but I just looked away muttering a "Nothing"
I have to stop giving them hope. I cannot be their Alpha-female. It's too dangerous.
After dinner, Tristan gave me a tour of the packhouse.
As we walked from one room to another we saw a lot of people. Some were young kids who would run to Tristan and do their best to convince him to play with them. Somewhere teenagers and our age people would either bow or give him some kind of weird handshakes. The old people would talk and even bless him randomly, complimenting him and even me.
Everyone was so casual as they greeted their leader. There was no power or authority.
For now, I was glad when he introduced me as a guest from the other dimension. I didn’t want him to say we are mates.
"The packhouse is 3 building structures." He explained as he got out of the building's back door and pointed at the two separate buildings on either side. "There are 3 floors on each building. All the ground floor is the common area. Any pack member can enter. The 2nd floor has rooms for the necessary. They are mainly for pack visitors and guests or pack members if it is necessary. Then we have the 3rd floor restricted only to the 3 pack authority and family. I, that is, the Alpha of the pack hold the main building 3rd floor. The beta holds the east side and the Gamma holds the west side."
I was shocked when he said the building is accessible to any members. It was something, unlike our land where the castle and premises are only for lords and kings.
Everything here shows the strong bond between the people and the leader.
He stopped by a steel door and pressed a button which lit up.
"You will be staying on my floor. Since it's late, I will take show you the other two buildings tomorrow." He said.
A ding was heard before the door opened to reveal a small room.
"Come on," he said walking inside but I stayed behind hesitated. As far as I can see there is no door to another room.
He raised his eyebrow at me before his eyes widen.
"Oh," he gave a short laugh.
In a second the ding sound once again rose before the door started to automatically close. But in a swift second Tristan raised his hand in front of the door.
It stopped moving before retracting back to the sides.
'Please close the door' a voice came making me jump.
"Don’t worry. This is called an elevator. It's an alternative we usually have for stairs. It takes us upstairs without climbing the stairs. Come on" he extended his hands for me to take.
"So you don’t have stairs?" I asked as he nodded his head.
"Of course. But this is less effort. We just get inside and stand"
"Teleportation?"
"Not exactly. There are steel wires that lift this thing" he said as I looked at him and then at the box.
"Ok" I muttered before taking his hand and walking cautiously.
"Don’t blow up the elevator ok" he grinned making me glare at him. "Ok ok sorry. I was just messing with you"
He gave me a huge smile, squeezing my hand for a second.
He then turned and pressed the number 3 on a keypad. It lights up before the door closed.
I felt a small tug in my heart making me jump closer to Tristan. He just chuckled and moved an inch closer to me. The sparks between us calmed me down.
In a few seconds, the ding sound once again rose before the door was open.
"Wasn’t that easy?" he grinned before walking outside with me.
He didn’t let go of his hand as he walked ahead. He walked deeper into the corridor before stopping in front of a door.
"This is the Alpha quarters," he said before pointing to a keypad. "It is password protected. Just type in 2788 and the door will unlock" he said pressing the numbers.
He then opened the door and pulled me inside.
The room was big. I was really surprised. It was a house inside a house.
How come we didn’t think of such a thing? The king and queen could have one floor to themselves and that floor will have everything needed to be their personal space.
Very clever.
AS he explained everything to me, my eyes kept glancing at our intertwined hands. He had no intention of letting it go.
Both of us were blushing but he has a small genuine smile lingering around him.
"This is your room," he said stopping in front of a door. "And that is mine" he pointed to the door opposite to us.
"Thank you," I said opening the door but turned as I felt a squeeze in my hand.
He looked at our intertwined hands and then at me.
"I am so happy I found you." He said before raising my hand. He kissed the back of my hand and I felt the air in my lungs escape.
I froze on the spot.
"I will see you tomorrow," he said before going to his room. "Good night, Narah"
He closed the room leaving me dumbstruck and broken.
I wish I could happily accept him.
