“I need to know something?” I confronted my mother as she cheerfully hummed away as she prepared a cup of tea. Turning to me, she smiled and waited for me to carry on. “Yes, dear. What do you need to know?” I took a deep breath and sat at the kitchen table. “The day you found me. Did I have a sister?” I watched as the colour drained from her face and she went white as a sheet. My heart was thumping away like crazy in my chest. Just as she were about to open her mouth to say something, I noticed the tears falling from her eyes. She would not look at me at all. I did not like where this was going. I wanted reassurance from her! Now I was doubting myself. Doubting everything I ever knew! Who the hell was I? “Sadie, I .. we cannot discuss this.” She shook her head, sadly and turned back to continue with the cup of tea. Just then my father walked in, he was all happy and kissed my mother on the top of her head before coming to ruffle my hair and hug me like he usually did. “Hey, what’s going on?” He stopped when he noticed the awkward atmosphere in the room. I let out a growl and sulked off to my bedroom. There was something that they were not telling me and I hated being lied to! I was going to go with Anaya and see this girl for myself. She would probably know the answers to my burning questions. Well I hoped so anyway. There was a knock on my door and my father opened it looking all guilty and upset. I looked away and scowled. Now they were going to make me feel bad for asking a question that I had every right to know the answer too! “What has caused all this?” He sat on the edge of the bed and asked me. I shrugged my shoulders still refusing to look at him. “Sadie, you are our daughter. If there was a sister then you would have her here with us. I don’t know where all this is coming g from but your mother is extremely upset by this. I will leave you to calm down but I would like you to apologise to your mother. We will hear no more about this.” He insisted causing me to feel anger boil up in my veins. They must be joking! I knew she existed. I had seen the picture for myself. Tomorrow I would meet this girl and get the proof that I needed.
