Angel’s Perspective
As I sat in Calculus class waiting for everyone to finish the exam I was staring at the clock, counting down the seconds until I got to see my mate. All I could think about was dinner at The Dark Moon Pack house. I know that Clayton didn't live in the pack house, but he was still Alpha and I guess I would become the future Luna. It almost didn't seem right, there was no way that I could become a luna, especially not of a pack like that. All of my life I had built up the idea that pack government and alphas were all corrupt, but I never imagined that the most caring person I had ever met would be an alpha. It was true. I would become the Luna of the most powerful pack in the nation. Clayton had been assuring me all day that the pack would love me. I told him that I was nervous and he said that I was their future Luna and they would adore me simply because of that. Clay was definitely easing my nerves, but I still couldn't imagine myself being in any sort of pack government.
Finally, I was released from class. I jumped out of my seat and walked briskly to the door where I typically met Kielee. I told her where I was heading and she gave me a tight hug and wished me luck before I walked out to the parking lot to find my mate leaning up against his dark car. He had changed his clothes since this morning and now wore jeans with a dark green shirt that almost matched my green cardigan.
When I approached him, he hugged me tightly and whispered in my ear, "How did I get lucky enough to have such a beautiful girl as my mate?" Instead of responding I kissed his lips. He took my hand and led me to the passenger side of his car. As I waited for him to get in, I waved at Keilee, who was leaving with Josh. She blew me a kiss. I laughed at her and Josh waved at me. I waved at him too and laughed as they walked away.
"How was school, beautiful?" Clay asked me.
"Well," I started, "I don't really know. I wasn't paying much attention. I definitely passed all of my classes even if I didn’t do well on the finals so it was difficult to care how I did," I replied truthfully. He laughed and put his hand in mine. His touch sent sparks shooting in my arm. I shook my body exaggerating the tingles that I got when he touched my arm.
"I know, my little mate. You'll get used to it," he said chuckling.
"I love it so much, Clay," I whispered.
"Me too," he said as he started the car.
With Clayton's driving we were at the pack house in less than 15 minutes. When we pulled into the driveway I noted that it wasn't really a driveway, but more like a parking lot with at least 50 different cars in it. And the pack house was much larger than I expected. It was 7 stories high and I had no doubt that it contained over 50 rooms.
"Wow. It's ridiculously huge," I said chuckling while marveling at its beauty.
"Yeah," he said casually, "Mostly younger wolves live in this one." he explained.
"There's another one?" I asked.
"There's two more," he told me. "One is smaller and all of the older wolves live there, elders, past alphas, betas, and anyone that knows ancient pack secrets and used to hold a high pack rank," he explained. "The other one is just like this one, except that anyone that I appointed to a pack position lives here or in their own home close to it."
"That's amazing," I told him. “It looks like a dorm from the university.”
"Yeah, I guess. But, you'll get used to it," he said with a smile. "I plan on introducing you to the entire pack before you become their Luna," he said with a smile as he opened my door led me into the pack house. The door opened into a living room where many people were sitting on couches and chairs, watching tv, and talking.
As soon as Clayton opened the door and allowed me to enter first, I felt the eyes of every person in the room on me.
Clayton’s Perspective
I had to admit, I was nervous to introduce Angel to my pack, but not for the same reasons as her. I knew that my pack would love her, but that's what I was mostly afraid of. Angel is my mate, but we weren't fully mated yet, so the male wolves in my pack that haven't found their mate are going to feel a special attraction to her because she is their Alpha's mate. The higher they are ranked and the closer that they are to me, in power, is going to determine exactly how attracted they are to her. I am going to have to be especially careful around my beta, Lucas. He hasn't found his mate yet and the beta is the closest to the alpha, in power, so he would feel an extremely strong physical pull to her. Let's just hope that he would be able to control his wolf because, if not, things might get a little messy and I really did not want that to be her first impression of our pack.
I opened the door and Angel stepped into the house. I followed closely behind, wrapping my arm around her waist possessively. Already, every male wolf in the room was staring at her. I knew that she looked flawless and her shorts really amplified her legs, one of my favorites of her features.
"Hey, Clayton!" Eric, one of my trainers, said to me. He was always very energetic, and rightfully so, his job was to train younger wolves to fight.
"Hey, guys, I'm glad so many of you are here. I have someone to introduce you to," I said. They all looked at me, waiting. "This is my mate, your future luna, Angel Johnson," I told them. There was a bunch of people welcoming her. Many approached her, asking questions, talking, and laughing. I wasn't really listening to what they were saying, but how she responded. We were standing in the center of the room and I still had my arm around her waist. She was extremely polite and answered each individual question, looking everyone that she talked to in the eyes. It was obvious that she would be an amazing luna. Thankfully, most of the guys kept their distance and controlled their wolves with me close by. But even more than that, my focus was on Angel's incredible social skills. I saw the reactions of those she spoke with and all of them were extremely impressed by her; she was making a great first impression with everyone she met. I was absolutely amazed because I had never seen her in this type of social situation before.
When everyone in the living room had greeted Angel and asked their questions we headed into the kitchen where a lot of the pack's women that had children or had found their mates got together and made dinner for the pack. All of them were in their late 20s early 30s and acted somewhat like mothers to the entire pack. As soon as I introduced them to Angel they went absolutely crazy at the sight of their future luna. Of course, these are the women that took care of the pack because they cleaned the house, cooked, and nursed the sick and injured, so they were excited to hear Angel's opinion on everything. They asked her a multitude of questions about the house, the people she had met so far, they even asked how she felt about finding her mate. Angel was very positive and told them how great everything had been so far. She showed them that she had paid attention to everyone and noticed all of the good things without judging anyone or anything. They were happy to know that she was happy and comfortable in her future pack. When they asked her personal questions about her family and her past, she was very clear and concise with them about everything and shared just enough information to answer their questions without seeming like she was hiding something, yet without sharing her horrific life story. She was emotional at all of the right times, but not too emotional. It was apparent that she had won the approval of everyone that she met. When the women in the kitchen were finally done talking to her, they asked us to tell the wolves in the living room that dinner would be ready in 15 minutes.
"How am I doing?" She whispered in my ear as we walked down the empty hallway to the living room.
"Amazing," I whispered to her. "I don't think that I could have made that good of a first impression. They all love you," I said with a chuckle. We were stopped in the hallway now as we had this conversation.
"Really?" She asked sweetly.
"Really," I said in her ear as I kissed her on the lips. "You are acting like a perfect luna. You're so good at listening to all of them, complimenting them, and giving your kind opinion at just the right time. They need all of those beautiful qualities in the luna of their pack," I assured her with a smile. "It's obvious that they all have accepted you," I told her.
"Okay," she said as she kissed my lips one more time before I took her hand and we entered the living room. As soon as Angel walked in, everyone smiled and greeted her like they had known her for years. She simply returned their warm gestures and announced that they would be having dinner in about 15 minutes. I added that I would like everyone to eat together since their alpha and his luna would be joining them tonight. They had no problem with that and were very excited.
Angel and I sat down on the couch and I put my arm around her and she placed her hand on my knee. I could tell that we were both struggling with some of the connection between us. We had come really far since meeting each other, like mates should, but the novelty of the attraction was still difficult for us. We were new to the explosive connection and the shocks of passion between us. But she was doing excellent at handling it.
"Angel?" asked one of my pack members.
"Yes, Zoe?" She was even remembering names.
"Would you come here a minute? I'd like to introduce you to my sister, Jennifer," she said taking Angel's hand.
"Of course," Angel said standing up. I stood up with her but Eric and Bradley asked to speak to me alone. They quietly added that it was about the rogues.
"Just a minute," I said to them. "Angel I will be right back. I just have to speak to Eric and Brad about a pack situation," I told her.
"Okay, babe," She said casually. I kissed her on the cheek and walked to the side of the room with Eric and Bradley. I kept an eye on her as they talked to me.
"There were 7 rogues on our territory that are locked in the prison. We told them that they had one opportunity to tell us why they were here and who sent them before they died. They simply said that they had a job to finish," Eric explained. "I didn't really understand, but they also said something about there is just two more and blood on a rose," he said.
"Blood on a rose? What does that even mean?" I asked.
"Don't ask me. I don't have a clue, man," Brad said.
"Alright... well figure it out," I said, eager to get back to my pack. A few rogues would not ruin our evening.
"Clayton, we'll try, but these are some pretty messed up wolves," Eric said.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"Like, they are in steel chains, but they keep shifting from human to wolf form and running, but the chains actually stop them. They can't break them. And they are shifting in those tiny cells, but their wolf won't fit so they just shift right back into a human, and then a wolf again. It's really weird to watch," he said with a disturbed look on his face. I wanted to ask more questions, but my beta, Lucas, was walking down the stairs and I needed to get to him before he got to my mate.
"Okay," I said in a hurry, "I will meet you at the prison at 9 am tomorrow," I said walking away and pulling Lucas out of the group he was walking in. I grabbed him by the neck and pulled him around the corner so that no one could see us.
"Dude? What the heck? I didn't do anything!" He said. He was trying to get me off of him but even with just one arm I was stronger than him and he knew it.
"Yet! Now when you get in there you will know exactly what I'm talking about. You will try to get to her and you will be physically drawn to her, but DON'T touch her. I swear, if you lay a single hand on her I will rip you to shreds. When you see her your mind, not your wolf, is going to feel like you should mark her, but don't come too close to her because I'm not kidding, you will get hurt," I said in my alpha voice as I released my grip on his neck and walked over to Angel, putting both of my arms protectively around her waist and pulling her into me. She smiled as she wrapped her arms around my neck and kissed my lips softly. Both of the girls she was talking to were laughing and smiling at my sudden possessive act. They absolutely adored the fact that their alpha and luna were in love, but they didn't know that complications taking place as I was showing the high ranking males that were walking down the steps that she was mine.
Lucas’ Perspective
I honestly had no idea what Clayton was talking about when he threatened me, but I knew that it must have been serious because he never does anything like that unless he really needs to. When I decided that I didn't have a clue what he meant, I walked around the corner to find him kissing the most beautiful girl I had ever seen. His warning suddenly made sense to me. My wolf felt a connection with her that I couldn't comprehend. I assumed that she was his mate by the way they were always trying to remain in contact with each other. But why did I feel this way about her. If I wasn't a wolf, I would think that this was love at first sight. I just wanted to kiss her, but I knew that I couldn't. Not after the harsh warning that I had received from Clayton. What was it about her? I felt like I should do something, I just didn't know what. It was taking everything that I had in me to keep my distance from her. I knew that she wasn't my mate. Why did I feel like I just needed to hold her?
She kissed Clayton again. Why was it having such an effect on me? If he wasn't my alpha, I would shift right now and take her from him. But, instead, I merely watched as the crowd around them cooed and laughed as he kissed her cheek playfully and she played with his hair. Why did Clayton get to be with her? Even worse, why did I feel this way about Clayton being with her?
'What's wrong with me?' I asked Clayton through our mind link. Betas and Alphas had a special connection that allowed for its own mind link, even in human form, that was private from the pack unless the alpha imposed a barrier.
'It's because she is my mate. We are not fully mated yet so the male wolves are going to feel that way towards their future Luna until I claim her. You've just got it the worst because you are closest to me in power,' Clayton explained.
'What should I do? I don't know if I can control myself much longer,' I admitted truthfully.
'Get out. Just get out. Whatever you do, don't touch her because I don't break promises,' he said in his Alpha tone.
'Yes, Alpha,' I said as I sprinted out the back door and transformed into my large chocolate brown wolf. It felt good to be one with my wolf, Kaleb, again. It seemed that my wolf was coming alive inside of me when I was in there, but out here I was free of all the temptation.
Clayton’s Perspective
"Time for dinner," Caitlin called in a motherly voice. Caitlin was one of the wolves that Angel met in the kitchen.
"Let's go, babe," I whispered to Angel. I made sure to keep her especially close to me at dinner. My enforcers, fighters, and trainers would be here tonight, along with the other high ranking officials of my pack, all of them would be extremely attracted to Angel for the same reasons as Lucas. This would be much different than them just checking her out, they would be filled with lust at the sight of her. I needed to keep her extra close tonight.
I took her hand and we walked to the dining room. We sat down at the table. It had been a while since I had sat at this table. I almost forgot how incredibly long it was. It had to sit at least 60 people and it was completely stacked with food all the way down the table. There was a wide variety of steak, chicken, beef, pork, lamb, turkey, vegetables, fruits, potatoes, and so much more. Then we were told to eat as much as we could because there was even more food on the counter.
Angel and I each made our plates. My plate had over double the amount of hers, but we got mostly the same types of foods. Again, Angel did amazing with the pack. There were some girls, such as Jamie and her friends, that weren't very kind to her. They were jealous and wanted to get rid of her, but I gave them a stern look, just daring them to say a word to my mate. Other than them, everyone loved her. Some of the guys liked her a little more than I was comfortable with, but they got the message, and they actually befriended her.
After dinner, Angel thanked everyone for the delicious meal and hugged many people on the way out. She hoped for the best for everyone and told them to give her a call if they needed anything. I walked her outside and when we got to my car, I pinned her up against the side of the car and kissed her. This was the kiss that I was wanting all night. I loved her playful pecks and gentle kisses on my lips, but I had been craving this kiss. I licked her lower lip demanding entrance. She opened happily and our lips moved in perfect unison.
"You are the hottest luna I've ever seen," I whispered as I took a breath. She smiled on my mouth and I smiled back to her.
