Serena did her best to hold his blue gaze while she tried to find a way to explain her circumstances without giving away how desperate she was to be accepted and that this pack was her last hope of survival.
Finally, she decided to just tell the whole truth. He’d find out eventually anyway, so what was the point in prolonging the inevitable? Besides, if she was really looking for a place to belong, that meant she needed to extend a measure of trust to her potential future alpha.
So she took a deep breath. “My last alpha and his pack by extension never truly accepted me and my wolf. They weren’t comfortable with my status as a turned wolf and basically used us for free labour. My fellow pack mates would hurl insults at me and my wolf being an alpha could not tolerate it. It came to a point where if I didn’t leave I would and proven their fear and snapped killing all of them. So I left for my sanity and their safety. As it is, this is my last attempt at finding a pack. If my wolf and I are not accepted here, I will honour my agreement with the council and end my life. I’m honestly too tired to keep trying.”
Aiden’s expression didn’t change as he watched her. His face hadn’t shifted from the deeply contemplative one he’d been wearing for the past couple of minutes.
Serena glanced at Alaric. He too didn’t look surprised by her revelation.
