Chapter Ten

212 Words
Aiden nodded slowly, his shrewd eyes assessing Serena. “Why did you leave your old pack?” Serena took a deep breath and opened her mouth to answer when there was a knock on the door. Aiden glanced away before focusing on her once more. “Come in, Ric.” The office door opened and in walked a tall, handsome man with icy blue eyes and short, straight light ash blonde hair. He had a striking resemblance to the alpha, albeit with a more youthful appearance. The alpha look alike gave both of them nods before walking over to stand beside Aiden. Aiden nodded at the man and said, “This is my younger brother Alaric. He’s the beta of our pack.” Serena leaned forward. “You’re the beta?” She questioned, and then winced at her tone before slapping a hand over her mouth. She was horrified she’d asked that question out loud. It was truly disrespectful. Alaric smiled, “yep.” Aiden laughed. “Trust me, Serena. Ric may not be as bulky as the enforcers, but he is smart and cunning and can beat every other enforcer in this pack. There is no one I trust more.” Serena chuckled. “I’m sorry. I’m the last person who should be judging someone by their appearance. It’s just that you look so laid back and chill. I would have never pegged you as a beta.” Alaric’s smile widened until you could see most of his teeth. “That’s my superpower. People underestimate me and let their guards down.” Serena shook her head and returned Alaric’s smile. She was relieved he hadn’t been offended by her scepticism. Aiden focused on her again. “So, you were just about to tell me what caused you to leave your old pack.”
