They passed through the giant entryway and down a long hall before coming to a staircase that was next to an enormous kitchen.
Opposite appeared to be a lounge area.
Serena couldn’t help but take a glimpse and was pleasantly surprised by the set-up she saw. There were multiple couches with end tables artfully arranged in between on one side of the room. On the other side, there were several tables taking up the space. It looked like a cafeteria setting.
One of the tables had a group of beefy men she assumed were enforcers playing a game of cards. Another had a couple of women picking at plates full of food in between talking and laughing.
On the side with the couches sat one man in an easy boy chair. He was away from the rest of the pack mates.
For some reason, he piqued Serena’s interest the most.
His appearance was a paradox in Serena’s estimation. His broad shoulders were hunched over a book, his face almost obscured by it. His chestnut coloured curly hair was wild and a bit long for a male and they framed a pale angular face.
That was about all Serena could see from where she was. She stood there watching him for a long minute, trying to figure out why, out of every person in that room, he caught and held her attention. It was the first time she’d been this attuned to another person. Even her wolf Sasha had taken notice of the male.
With a shake of her head, she turned to find Alistair halfway up the first set of stairs and jogged to catch up with him. On the way up the next flight, a group of she-wolves passed them by with a wave and smile for Alistair. It was evident he was a ladies’ man.
Serena hurried to catch up to him, curious about what she’d seen so far.
“How many people live here?”
Alistair turned to her with a smile. “Currently, hmm… about twenty-five persons give or take.”
Her eyes widened at the number. “Twenty-five? Wow! Why?”
Alistair shrugged. “I can only really speak for myself. But most of Aiden’s enforcers live here as well as other single members of the pack. And then, of course, there’s him and his cousin.”
“He lives with all his enforcers?”
Serena guessed that would explain the surplus of and supersize of everything she’d seen so far. If you had to feed and house twenty-five werewolves, you definitely needed the space. Especially if most of them were enforcers.
“Yep. That’s the way he likes it. They have the option of living in one of the pack houses if they want, but most are single, like me, and prefer to live in the mansion. Honestly, it’s because we don’t have to worry about things like housekeeping and cooking if we live here, at least I don’t.” Alistair admitted.
“So, Aiden houses, feeds, and takes care of all his enforcers here?”
The more Alistair spoke, the more unbelievable Serena found what he was saying.
“Yea,” he said. “Aiden’s a great alpha. He not only takes care of all of his enforcers but every single member of his pack. We are all alive and prosperous because of his excellent leadership skills. You will like it here.”
Serena already kind of did. She just hoped they were willing to accept a human-turned werewolf.
