BROKEN EPISODE EIGHTEEN

Ndegwa was furious but he couldn't find his way out of that bed. When Lorna and Jade were in jail the first time, they sent people after Benta but when they shot Ndegwa, they carried him and took him to the place where Lorna had ordered them to. Lorna didn't want Ndegwa dead and when she heard news that he had been shot. She wanted his life saved..

Years back..

Lorna met up with Ndegwa in his car after she called him asking to talk to him about something important and he agreed to meet her.

It was late, say around 8:30 in the evening and Ndegwa had just left his office. Ndegwa was a business man and property manager. He bought lands cheaper and sold them after a few years and within no time, he had bought properties everywhere. He even had a big hotel that operated under him though he had kept a low profile because he didn't want people knowing his business and his life..

Ndegwa: what do you want to talk about Lorna?

Lorna: us. I want us to talk about us.

She responded looking him in the face.

Lorna and Ndegwa had a thing a few months before Melvin was born and infact Melvin was Ndegwa's son only that Melvin never found out because Lorna didn't want him to. Melvin grew so fond of Ndegwa who was operating as a taxi guy that he prefered him to be the one who ran errands for him and Ndegwa did it whole hearted. He would rather do that and be close to his son than never see him like Lorna threatened after things didn't work between them.

Lorna was full of threats. When she slept with Ndegwa she had the intention of claiming some money from him for the sake of the baby that was already growing inside her then again she was married then to George but George was not as rich as Ndegwa was. George and Ndegwa had been close friends and when Ndegwa decided not to give Lorna money untill the child was born, she threatened to tell George everything about them and that made Ndegwa a slave to her.

George never found out about Melvin not being his son because it was in the interest of both Ndegwa and Lorna that he didn't. Ndegwa had a wife then. Her name was Grace. Grace had no children not because she didn't want any but because she could not sire any. Ndegwa knew Grace was not in a position to give him children and he was okay with that because he knew, he had a child somewhere though he couldn't really get access to him.

Ndegwa while at work, met up with Victoria. She was the tea lady at the company and he found her so attractive that sometimes he would ask her to stay a while and have a chat with him. She was his favourite person and sometimes, he would leave the office late just so that he could give Victoria a lift after she was done at work.

Ndegwa was not unfaithful to Grace, infact he loved her but the problem was that Grace couldn't stop feeling guilty over the fact that he could not give Ndegwa a child that she became annoying at times. Ndegwa was tired of the " I only wish I could give you a son" talk that sometimes he found a reason to be away from home.

With Victoria, it started with evening coffee in his office as they talked then one thing led to the other and they started sleeping together, one or maybe both had fallen in love with the other and in the process Victoria got pregnant for him.

Ndegwa stopped being consistent with the upkeep money he sent to Lorna and Lorna started her investigations. First she had a plan to eliminate Grace because she thought Grace was the reason why Ndegwa was slowly changing his mind towards her. She thought maybe Grace was pregnant for him hence the attention being drifted from her.

Lorna made plans to kill Grace so that she could have Ndegwa to herself. One evening she was strolling in Ndegwa's hood. She knew the exact time Grace got home after work and even though Ndegwa was that rich, Grace didn't own a car yet so she could use the bus then walk home after she alighted at the bus stop.

Lorna sat in her car that evening waiting for Grace to pass by and true to her thoughts she did. It was around eight at night and when she saw Grace just about to cross the road, she stepped on the gas and drove right into her and swept her off her feet. She was hoisted up then when she landed down on the car, she dropped and Lorna ran over her then took off in speed and before people could gather and help the situation, there was blood all over and Grace was dead. Lorna killed Grace.

After Grace's burial, Ndegwa and Victoria started dating officially and she even got the privilege to visit Ndegwa's house. He had her stop working as a tea girl and promoted her to his secretary but when Lorna leaned about that, she started sending Victoria anonymous threatening messages. She asked Victoria to stay away from her husband or she would shave all the hair on her head and leave her bald before killing her.

After the threats became way too many, Victoria decided to leave Ndegwa and stay away from him for the sake of her and her child's life. She stopped working in that office and stopped communication with Ndegwa until she gave birth to Larry. Ndegwa found out about Larry and started being present again sending financial assistance until Victoria fell in love with some other guy. She loved Ndegwa yes, but she swore that as long as Lorna was still alive, she was not going to have anything to do with him.

Lorna made it difficult for Ndegwa to move on with any other woman so he never married again.

Victoria gave birth to Benta but Lorna came to learn that Larry was Ndegwa's child and she was mad. She didn't want any other boy in the picture because she feared that Ndegwa would leave Larry all his inheritance.

One time, Melvin fell seriously ill and he needed blood transfusion and both parents were not his match. George found that very strange and when he consulted the doctor, he was told that atleast one parent ought to have had the same blood group as their son. That issue disturbed George deeply so he opted for a DNA test for both sons and he learned that Melvin was not his son but Leo was. George got so mad that he walked out on that marriage after a confrontation and never looked back. Melvin was now 32 and Leo was 27 years.

George never kept in touch the entire time he was gone, he filed for a divorce then went missing. He never bothered to check on Leo and because only Lorna knew the truth, she made the boys hate their father making them believe that he left them for another woman. Melvin never even knew that George was not his real father.....

Two days later I was doing better. So much better that the pain had reduced and now I could actually open my eyes and talk sensible things. I was in the room alone, I'm not sure how I got there but I could tell that the hospital was quite expensive and I didn't wonder alot as the nurse came in for the routine check up and she was happy to find me awake.

Nurse: Hello Benta?

Me: you know my name?

Nurse: yes, your face has been all over the news. They think you are missing.

Me: do you know who brought me here?.

Nurse: some woman. She said her name is Cynthia and she asked us to take good care of you. You were really in bad shape when you got here.

Me: what happened?

Nurse: you don't remember?

I shook my head. Not that I didn't know what had happened to me but I was trying to find out if she was aware of what had happened to me. I also didn't know how I got to the hospital and I needed to know who brought me in because the last thing I remember was wanting to die. I still want to.

Nurse: you had been stubbed with a knife, it's a good thing the knife didn't tear your colon but we also noticed you were sexually abused. We were waiting for you to get up then see if we could call the police to take your statement.

Me: no police... Please...

She looked supprised.

Me: do you have a phone?

Nurse: yes, you want to call someone?..

Me: mmh hu!

She gave me her phone and I called Melvin and after the phone went ringing for a few seconds, it was picked and the receiver was Leo.

Me: where is Melvin?

Leo: Benta?..... Benta! Oh gosh, what happened to you, where are you?

Me: in the hospital.. where is my son Leo where is Melvin and Ethan?

I don't know why I kept asking that but I was very uneasy the entire time I was talking to him..

Leo: which hospital are you in Benta I'm coming to see you.

Leo wasn't even answering what I was asking.

I told him the name of the hospital and he hanged up. He didn't tell me where Melvin was and I started having this awkward feeling like something was not okay...

I gave the phone back to the nurse and I could see just how empathetic she was.

Me: I need to get out of here.. I need to find my son.

Nurse: you have not been discharged yet but the doctor will do so soon enough.

Me: okay.

She smiled at me then left...

An hour later when my food was being brought in, some lady walked in too and from the way she looked, my guess was that she was the Cynthia woman who brought me to the hospital

Cynthia: hey there?

Me: hey..

Cynthia: my name is Cynthia and I have come to check on you..

She said approaching the bed and when I struggled to sit up, she helped support my back with a pillow.

Me: thanks... Not just for this but for saving my life too.

She smiled briefly then took my hand in hers.

Cynthia: I'm glad to see that you are doing better. That night, I was really scared that you would die in my car and I kept asking God to let you reach the hospital. You were lying on the road and in a terrible condition.

I looked down in shame but she raised my face and I looked at her.

Cynthia: you are a survivor.

I didn't know how to respond to that but our conversation was cut short when Leo walked in with a bunch of roses and when Cynthia saw him, she stepped back and let him come through.

Leo: hello..

Cynthia: hello.

He made his way past her and kissed my forehead then held my hand and put it to his chest when he sat way too close to the bed.

Cynthia: I will leave you two love birds for now. I am going to talk to the doctor.

Me: thank you Cynthia.

Leo was too shocked to even talk to Cynthia and after she left he caressed my face and looked deep into my eyes. I felt blood rush through my body as I didn't understand what was going on.

Leo: I looked for you everywhere... I almost went insane..

I didn't say anything but tears started flowing down my face especially after I remembered that his mother is the one who did all that to me.

I tried to pull my hand off his hold but he would not let go.

Leo: I'm so sorry, it's all my fault. I shouldn't have left your side even for a minute.

Me: where is Melvin Leo, you have been avoiding that question since..

Leo: Melvin left...

Me: left to where?

I asked after a sharp pain cut through my stomach.

Leo: he is gone Benta, he left the country..

Me: and my son?

Leo: he took Ethan with him.. it is a plan he had made all along and when I found his phone, I went through the chats and...

Me: stop!..

He looked at me confused.

Me: what do you mean by he took Ethan with him, how could you let him take my son Leo.. why?

I burst in tears and he got up then held me right as he called the nurse because I was literally going insane screaming and pulling my hair and stuff. I was in shock....Melvin lied to me.... Melvin lied to me about starting a fresh and he lied to me about loving me. He lied!

Leo couldn't stop shouting until the nurse came running in and when she saw my condition, she had to sedate me again to keep me stable and after a few minutes I was calm and very sleepy.

Leo: how long will you keep her here?

Nurse: until she is ready to face the world out there. Benta went through a traumatic situation as she had a near death experience. Someone stubbed her with a knife and she was also r***d. She got here half dead when she was save by some lady. It has not been easy..

When leo heard that he sat down and buried his face in his hands then took a deep breath and looked at Benta again.

Nurse: she needs alot of love, care and support to get over that experience. She needs help.

Leo nodded then the nurse had to leave and Cynthia walked in.

Leo and Cynthia talked for a while then she had to leave too..

Leo called his mother to tell him what happened to Benta and when she heard that, she pretended to be sad for her and said she was boarding a plane right away so that she could go see Benta. There was no plane she was boarding as she was just within. Leo also needed to tell his mum about Melvin and the games he had been playing. It's only then that it had occured to him that Jade was also missing from the cells. Leo realized that Jade and Melvin ran away together...

Leo left when Benta was asleep. He was meeting up with Larry to see if he could get him to find Melvin or Jade. He was still very guilty that he didn't even ask if Leo had found Benta.

Larry called Michael and they discussed the possibility or tracking down Melvin since He had to attend a proceeding in court. Leo and Michael knew each other because Michael married Leo's cousins Alice but they had never been that close because Leo was ever on the move and Michael,...he was seen on an appointment most of the time and the only person that could easily reach him was Larry.

Michael and Leo caught up on a lot of things when Larry was gone, the death of Magdalene, the burial that would be happening soon and work... They discussed alot..

Later on Leo went back to the hospital and when he got close to the wards, he heard Benta screaming and shouting asking someone to get out then it was followed by glass shattering...

He ran to the room and there was his mother and Benta both standing there with Benta holding a metalic tray ready to smash Lorna's head.

Leo: Benta...

Me: ask this witch to get out of here...tell her to leave..

Leo: mother...

Lorna: what did I do, I only came to see her but she is the same crafty and psycho as usual.

Me: get out!...

I tried going for her but Leo grabbed me and pulled me to him then asked his mother to go out. The nurse and doctor also came rushing in.

Doctor: what's going on?.

Me: ask her to leave and never come back.

Leo: mum please go. I will call you.

Lorna picked her bag and walked out and both Leo and the doctor helped me back to bed.

Nurse: do I sedate her again?

Me: no. Please... I'm fine... I don't want to sleep again..

Doctor: then you need to stay still. See, you have reopened the wound on your stomach.

He said checking it out and asking the nurse to dress it again..

Later on when I settled, Leo was there with me and he was deeply disturbed I could tell..

Leo: hey...

Me: hey..

Leo: how are you feeling?

Me: confused,..hurt,.. broken...I don't know..

Leo: I'm sorry about my mother showing up like that. I had asked her to come and I also told her what happened to you. She was so sorry that she wanted to come see you.

Me: I don't want to ever see your mother for as long as I live.... I hate her Leo,... I hate that woman with everything in me.

Leo: she is still my mother and you are still married to her son.

Me: what son,.. Leo, when I get out of this bed, everyone will face my wrath. I will hunt down Melvin and I will put a bullet in his head. Jade, I will strangle her with my two hands and your mother.... Your mother will pay for what she did to me with her own life...

You better choose your sides wisely Leo because right now, I don't really care...
