BROKEN EPISODE NINETEEN

Leo never heard me spit such hate before and now he knew something was so wrong. I was burning with rage inside and despite my stomach being bandaged and stuff, I couldn't wait to get out of that bed because just like I promised Leo, I was going on a hunt.

The thing is I didn't know how to come back from everything that had happened to me, I didn't know how to stop playing the r**e scene in my mind over and over again and I didn't understand why Lorna hated me so much. Lorna was evil and she had awaken evil in me.... Would you blame me for how felt?.

In my world if you hated someone, you looked the other way and let them be but her, she showed me a whole new world and she taught me how to hate.

Leo: can I ask you something?

Me: yes.

Leo: what did my mother do to you, why are you so angry at her?..

Me: ask me that question after I drive a knife through her heart. You are a good person Leo and it's not your fault that your mother is a witch.

Leo: she did this to you?

He asked taking another look at the wound on my stomach.

Me: what do you think?..

Leo: talk to me Benta, she told me she was boarding a plane I mean how can she be the one who did this?.

Me: that's because she never left. She is the one who kidnapped me that day and I'm damn sure she is the one who shot at us too.

Leo: my mother shot at us, no. I know you hate her but she would never hurt me Benta. My mother would do anything but she would never try to kill me...

I didn't expect Leo to understand what I was talking about so I let him believe whatever he wanted to believe but that day, I sent him out... I asked him to leave and he did probably going to confront his mother.

A few days later, I got a discharge from the hospital and I didn't even tell Leo I was going home. I didn't want anything to do with that family and all I wanted was to revange. Leo was the only person who cared about me but I realized when it came to me or his mother, he would definitely pick his mother... I didn't hate him for that because it was not his fault what his mother turned out to be.. he had all the reason to defend her, she was his mother....

When the doctor gave me the discharge, he told me my bills had been cleared and I didn't care to ask how or who cleared the bills, I just couldn't wait to get out of there.

I got a cab home, I had some money stashed somewhere and it was enough to keep me going for a while as I figured out what next.

Leo had a hunch that turned out to be true right before I got kidnapped. He didn't trust Melvin and maybe I had been so stupid to think Melvin meant everything he said. If you saw Melvin you would think he was very gentle and no lie could come out of his mouth but how could I be so trusting and so blind when everything was laid bare right in front of my eyes, from him sleeping with my best friend the night of our wedding, to him going on vacations, them getting me pregnant against my wish to fake marriage I mean how much more could my heart take?...

That evening, I prepared myself some tea and sat in the living room having it as I rested a bit before I got on planning my revange. I had alot of things going on in my head and one of them was where Ndegwa really was. Did he know everything that was going on and did he know of Melvin's fake life, was that the reason why he offered me his home, like did he know I was going to end up in the streets. Where was he anyway because I had questions that only him could answer.. I heard a knock by the door and my first instinct was to grab a knife from the kitchen which I did and went back to the living room to open the door.

I held the handle, took a deep breath and pulled the door open but before I could use my knife I saw Leo and my hand went down as I made my way back into the house and left him to close the door then he walked up to me...

Leo: you should have told me you were leaving the hospital.

Me: I thought you knew, aren't you the one who paid the bills?

Leo: I did. But you should have told me..

Me: why,....is your psychopath of a mother on the loose?

Leo: is it necessary to mention my mother?

Me: why are you here?

I said going back to my seat to continue withy tea.

He didn't answer that but sat close to me then turned and looked at me in the face.

Leo: do you know why I am here despite everything?

I didn't answer that. He looked away then back at me.

Leo: I'm in love with you Benta. I'm crazily in love with you and that's why nomatter what you do or how rude you are to me, I keep coming back...

Me: so what do you want me to do with that information Leo?..

Leo: you don't care about what I'm saying do you?

Me: and what do you expect me to do, jump up,... hug you, let me remind you that's it's because of your family that I'm in this mess and I don't need you just like your brother prophesying fake love. I can take care of myself so if I were you, I would find something better to do with my life..

I picked Melvin's car keys on the table and picked the knife from the table and walked out of the house and by the time I got to the parking, Leo was right behind me and when I got in the car, he jumped in too.

Leo: where are you going?..

I didn't say a word but started the car. I was not a perfect driver but once in a while Ndegwa taught me the basics that I needed to know, he told me that I needed to know how to drive so that incase of an emergency I would atleast get to the hospital...

Leo: Benta,....please talk to me where are you going?

Me: you have Melvin's phone right, the one you said he dropped?.

I asked starting the car and I wasn't even sure if I was doing the right thing.

Leo: yes I have the phone, atleast let me drive, I don't trust your driving.

He said giving me the phone then he asked me to stop the car and I did. We exchanged seats then he started the car again as I went through the chats and his call log then there was this number that called him several times. That's who I wanted to find. I called Alice and asked if she was home and she said she was so I asked Leo to take me there since he had offered to be my driver for the night.

The drive was silent all the way as I wasn't in the mood for talking and the good thing with Leo is that he never forced things.

Half an hour later we got to Alice's house and her husband's car was parked outside meaning the husband was around. That was the person I was interested in. We got in and Alice was of cause excited to see me as usual and Mathew, Mathew and Leo started talking and I was surprised at how fast they had clicked. During the family gatherings, they were not really close.

Alice told me how hard it had been coping with the pregnancy and the loss of her mum, then she also heard that Jade had gone missing and word had it that she was the one who killed her mother but if only she knew that her mother's murderer was standing right before her....

Leo and Mathew were taking in the living room as Alice and I sat by the dining table. She had been cooking and I was keeping her company in her open plan kitchen.

Leo: how far with the investigations?

Mathew: I still have nothing man but I'm working on it. Melvin didn't leave any trace behind and Jade, she was reported to have run away from the Police station.

Me: she ran away from the police station, no that's not true.

I dived into their conversation and they both looked at me so I got up and walked up to them leaving Alice by the kitchen counter.

Me: in this phone, there are conversations of Melvin and some police officer who helped Jade escape and from the look of things, Melvin parted with alot of money.

I said showing them the phone.

Me: that's not enough, listen... You are an IT guy right, here is the number of the people who dropped Melvin at the airport. Help me find that guy.

Leo: then what Benta, first of all you are not stable health wise and secondly these are people you don't know, you can't just March up to someone and...

Me: are you finding me the location?

I cut Leo short and Mathew was noting the number down then he keyed it in in his computer.

Mathew: the guys are in a club, club Cindy's down town.

Me: good.

I walked back to Alice..

Me: I've got to go girl, I'm looking for my son. I will be back to visit soon..

We hugged then I walked out without saying another word and Leo ran after me as usual and took the drivers seat.

Leo: are you serious right now?

Me: do I look like I'm joking to you... why am I even talking to you, What would you know about loosing a son. It's either you drive me without questioning every move I make or let me drive myself.

He started the car and drove off. Club Cindy's is where we were headed and I still had my knife in my hand. No one spoke to the other again and even as we got to the club, I left him seated outside in the car as I had to go in to find the guys. Mathew told me exactly where to find them and after getting past the bouncers by the entrance I made my way to the counter and sat there waiting for the bartender after I signalled him.

I scaned the room very fast and saw the exact table where the guys were seated at. Mathew for some reason could access their phones and kept tabs with them and he would update me everytime I asked something.

Bartender: hey beautiful?..

Me: hey.. can I have a drink please?

Bartender: what do you feel like having?

Double Martini

He looked at me abit surprised..

Leo: make it two and add some ice to hers.

I turned to my side and Leo was there.

Me: what do you think you are doing?

Leo: I'm saving you from yourself... You will thank me later.

Leo had just come to destroy my plans because the idea was to send a drink on the guys table then definitely they would get interested to know this lady that had bought them a bottle of whiskey.

Normally one would come for a chat and after that, we would maybe go to the washroom and then I would slit his throat open if he didn't tell me what I wanted to know. Yeah, you can say I watched alot of movies and I never thought I would get to this point in my life. I had never even been to a club before...

Leo: whatever you are planning will not work. You will die before you even get to see your son again.

I threw him a disgusting look but this time he chose to put up with it. He wasn't going to leave.

The guys at the table seemed to have noticed me or Leo, I don't know because their attention had all over sudden shifted to us. They knew Melvin and they definitely knew us and when Leo felt the staring was too much he raised a glass to them and just like that, one of the guys got up and started walking up to us.

Me: what are you doing?

Leo: starting a fight.. thats what you wanted right?

Guy: so, when the big brother goes the small brother takes over. Are you sure you haven't been hitting that ass even with your bro around?

Leo immediately got up landed a blow on his face and now he had definitely started trouble. When the other boys saw their guy being pushed, they came at us ready to fight and Leo pulled out his gun and shot two of them then people started running all over with the bouncers finding their way inside and shooting in the air. Leo grabbed my arm and we mixed with the crowd and found our way out of the club and inside our car.

Me: really, that was your perfect way of starting trouble?

Even before he could answer that, the guy who did not get shot ran towards us and shot at our car and and Leo drove off in speed before more damage could be done. Great, now the i***t was just going to hunt us down for killing his friends, did I get the information I was looking for, Nope.thanks to my body guard himself. I was mad, if Leo had let me handle it my way, maybe I would have a destination of wherever the hell Melvin took my son...
