BROKEN EPISODE NINE

I didn't know what else Leo could say that could get me mad more than I already was, so I sat there waiting for him to unleash the dragon and I don't think he was ready to tell me whatever he wanted to tell me because he kept beating around the bush.

Leo: Jade and Melvin were a married couple years back and Jade couldn't sire any children and she needed a solution to that problem because my mother had unleashed all the beasts in her.

Me: before you go any further...you knew Melvin and Jade were married and you never told me, then you parade yourself as the most caring person in that entire family.

Leo: it wasn't in my place to tell Benta I wanted to.

Me: then a ball got stuck in your throat?

Leo: no.

He was silent. Maybe I just needed to hear everything he needed to say first but did we even have that time. The guys who had Melvin were calling every minute.

Leo: who keeps calling you.

Me: I told you there are guys who have Melvin and they are threatening to kill him.

Leo: then let them kill him Benta you can't turn yourself to those guys,they will kill you.

Me: so you know those guys?...wait, you said you were coming on Friday, how are you even here today?

Leo: after the conversation we had, I couldn't sleep another night, I knew something was going down and I needed to be here.

I could read alot on Leo's face. He was worried about something and he was also trying to make me understand something I wasn't getting only that I was so mad at him.

Me: you told me not to let Melvin die because I needed him alive than dead, you told me not to let his blood be in my hands

Leo: I told you that because I care Benta but this time round, I won't let you. Melvin will be fine. I tend to believe those are Jade's tricks to lure you out. Jade wants you dead Benta.

That didn't come as a shock to me having run around the entire night but I was surprised that Leo knew that yet he had not been around.

Me: how do you know that Leo, has your family been planning for my death?..

Leo: not family but Jade wants you to disappear because she is afraid Melvin might have fallen in love with you.

Me: Melvin is my husband,what do you mean by might?

He took a deep breath then got up and paced in the room..he was making me nervous though he was also confirming my fears, the fears of everything Jade said before they threw me out of the house.

Leo: Melvin didn't marry you Benta,I mean he married you for show biyt it's not real. The marriage certificates are fake.

I got up and walked up to him.

Me: what did you say?

I asked turning him to face me.

Me: you were there on our wedding day leo, you saw me get married to your brother.

Leo: I did, but I think this is the time to tell you that Jade organized for those fake certificates. Melvin knew what he was doing. A few days before the wedding I eavesdropped on their conversation and it was all a plan Benta. Jade wanted Melvin to marry you so that you could sire a kid for them, be a surrogate mum and the reason why Jade wants to get rid of you is so that she can have Ethan and restore her marriage.

My phone rang again and when I picked it I put it on loud speaker so that Leo could hear what the guys were saying.

Me: yes,

Voice: you have ten minutes and Melvin's blood will be on your hands.

Me: kill him... Infact kill him right now so that I can have peace of mind... You think I care about what happens to Melvin anymore, I don't care so kill that son of a b***h for me.

I ended the call and blocked that number then sat back on the sofa and Leo did too. He put his hand on my shoulder and I looked at him.

Me: what else don't I know?

Jade and Lorna got a text from their contact person and they were told Benta had refused to cooperate and that meant their plans has failed and they needed another plan.

The previous night the officers brought in some very drunk ladies and that morning they woke up and started harassing Jade and Lorna. Lorna was afraid that the two women would go wild on them so she shouted asking the officers to come and after some time, a male officer came and asked who was calling.

One of the drunk ladies got up and hurriedly walked to the door and started insulting the officer and the slap she got from in between the rails sent her flying on the floor.

Lorna: please get us out of here, we are ready to part with something.

Officer: are you trying to bribe the officer?

Jade: no sir. Please, we will pay the amount just mention it.

Who in their right mind would ask the officers to mention their price. I'm not saying the officers take bribes I mean who has even seen them stop vehicles and shake hands with the drivers and laugh like old friends. No one. These people follow the law to the latter and telling them to name their price was like asking for a bullet in the ass.

Officer: you are scheduled to go to court this afternoon.

Jade: officer please. If we go to court this case will drag and I'm a very busy woman I barely have that time.

Officer: do you have ten thousand for both of you.

Lorna: ten thousand what?

Jade looked at her then pushed her back when she saw the look on the officers face. Lorna was wrong number and she could have started insulting the hell out of that police.

Jade: officer, ten thousand is alot.

Officer: are we negotiating now?

Jade: I have seven thousand. Let us go home, this place stinks already.

The officer looked at Lorna then at Jade.

Officer: I will be back.

He walked away and left them.

The people who had taken Melvin hostage were told to drop him at his home and leave him there now that Benta had proven to be difficult to get a hold of.

Guy 1: you have a really tough headed wife.

He said roughing up Melvin and getting him up.

Melvin: you will pay for this.

Guy2: shut up man, you should be glad we were told not to kill you. How can you dump your wife for someone you picked in the streets?

They pushed him out of that hiding place and forced him into a car then drove him away.

The officer came back with a number and gave it to Jade asking her to send the money there and Jade smiled.

Jade: can I borrow your phone I call someone?

Officer: stop playing games. I know you have a phone I just didn't take it. The other officer filled me in on your activities. I will have you out as soon as the money rings in my phone.

All these things were spoken in low tone but one of the ladies who had been brought in was keen on whatever was going on.

Her: oooh, hivyo ndio mnakula hongo siku hizi... Alafu sisi wenye hatuna pesa tuendelee kulala kwa simiti sindio? (So that's how you take bribes, so the rest of us who can't afford the bribe money should continue sleeping on this cold floor?)

Officer: funga hiyo mdomo madam, umeona baba yako hapa ndio unaongelesha hivo?( Shut your mouth madam, you think you are talking to your father?)

The woman remained quiet after the officer barked at her.

Leo and I spoke but he didn't tell me alot of things, he just apologized for not being there to defend me as I was being thrown out of my house and according to him, I couldn't go back to that house.

Leo: it's a good thing the Ndegwa guy left you a big home are you sure he is dead?

Me: i don't know, I couldn't even go back to check on him.

Leo: you can't go there but I can. We need to find out if he is alive or dead and I also needed to speak to Jade and my mother, and Melvin too. I need to know what's going on.

Me: you know what I think, I think you know alot of things and you just don't want to tell me about those things. Everything you told me Jade told me and what you did was just confirm. I'm mad at you because you promised to have my back when nobody else did.

Leo: you have all the right to be mad Benta but like I said I couldn't tell you anything because of the threats I got after....

Me: after what?

Leo: forget I said that..

Me: no Leo, after what and if you don't tell me the truth when you walk out that door, don't come back here.

Leo: you need me Benta.

Me: I don't. All I need is my baby boy and the rest of you can go to hell for all I care.

Leo: I got threats after I eavesdropped on Jade's and Melvin's conversation when they cought me listening. Then again on the night before your wedding, Melvin and Jade slept together.

Me: what?

Leo: I found out the following morning when the groom was nowhere to be found so I had to track him and yeah they were together that night and Melvin warned me not to say anything about it.

A sharp pain cut through my stomach and there was a devastating look on my face.

Leo: Melvin is my brother Benta and I had all the rights to protect his secrets.

I didn't say a word to that, maybe it was wrong getting angry with Leo but why would Jade and Melvin do that to me.

This was the second year of our marriage and something was a miss. After the night at the hotel when I got mad at Melvin for telling me I needed to prove that I could sire kids,I started using pills everytime we had s*x because I needed time before I could conceived, how the hell did i get pregnant sooner than I expected?.

Leo decided to leave but he told me not to leave the house for any reason for I would be safer there. He told me he would make everything between us right and he would help me get justice. He also promised to find out where Ethan was and bring him back to me.

I let him go for I needed time to myself. I needed to backtrack and find out how I really got pregnant because the timings were not right.

A few months after our marriage I remember sharing with Jade how ready I was not to get pregnant. I needed to atleast enjoy my marriage first before I had kids running around I told her and she smiled.

Jade: kids are a blessing dear and when they come, you will realize just how happy they make the home.

Me: you think so?

Jade: I know so. Look at me, I couldn't keep my home because I was not able to give my husband any children.

Me: then what happened?

Jade: him and the mother in law decided that he should get married to someone else and we parted ways.

Me: wow, I'm so sorry about that. So is it that you really can't sire kids or it's something that can be corrected.

Jade: if that were the case I would still be in my house enjoying my marriage Benta. I totally can't give birth.

I comforted her then I made her some tea as we talked some more. Jade was my confidant as she was readily available to listen,then again there are things I couldn't share with Betty but I felt comfortable talking to Jade about because she was my best friend.

Me: I'm thinking of taking the 3 months family planning injection until I'm ready to give birth. Atleast I wouldn't have to worry about getting pregnant.

Jade: I wouldn't recommend that especially if you haven't given birth at all dear.

Me: why not?

Jade: there are chances that when the time comes when you will be wanting the children they won't be there.

Me: okay... What other options do I have pills?

Jade: not so good too. I would prefer you use the period tracking calendar.

Me: what's that?

Jade laughed then she asked me for my phone.

Jade: I will show you.

She downloaded the app on my phone and showed me how it worked.

Jade: this will help you know when to have s*x and when not to. When you are ready to get pregnant, it will also help you know when to conceive

Me: are you sure this thing works?

Jade: 100% I wouldn't tell you something that does not work. That way you won't keep getting worried.

I fell for that and I used that app like Jade had advised for a few months until one day something happened, something I couldn't explain.

Jade and I ate Dinner as she had come to visit then all over sudden I was so sleepy and tired. I told Jade I was not feeling well so I lay on the sofa and I must have fallen into a deep sleep because after that, I woke up in a hospital bed and I couldn't even tell how I had gotten there.

One hour before Dinner

That day Jade called Benta and suggested that she goes over for dinner. She said she was going through something and needed to talk so Benta had to create time for her because Jade always did for her.

She went over and Benta prepared dinner and all that time Jade was on phone chatting with Melvin whom she had planned with. She was there to drug Benta so that once she was unconscious, Jade was to drive her to hospital where the procedures were going to take place. Jade would check on Benta's phone every now and again tracking her calender so that she could know when she was fertile and that's when they were to take her to the hospital.

Melvin: how long before you get here?

Jade: she's unconscious already, should be there shortly.

Melvin: make it fast.

When I woke up in the hospital, I was just tired and I wasn't feeling anything so I didn't understand why I was there in the first place. When I asked Jade, she told me I told her I was having pain in my stomach then I passed out, a story the doctor confirmed And i had to believe. At no point did I see Jade and Melvin together and that's why I almost lost my mind when Leo confirmed everything.

When Leo got to Melvin's home, Melvin was already there and before he could even settle in, Lorna and Jade were dropped off in a cab and when they walked into the house and found Leo, none of them was excited to see him.

Lorna: prodigal son himself, what brought you here.

Jade: what else if not to come and collect data for his brother's wife.

Leo: shut your mouth Jade, it's attracting flies.

Jade: you can't talk to me like that in my house.

Leo: where is Benta's child?.

Jade burst out in a laughter then sat down next to Melvin who had not said a word since.

Jade: Benta has no child as far as I'm concerned. You see that baby, that baby is my own. Melvin and I had our eggs fertilized and Benta, she only helped us carry the baby in her womb so Ethan is mine.

Lorna: how can you go against your family and defend that thing, I raised my children well but you...

Jade: you seem to be defending that woman so much do you have interest in her Leo? Are you in love with Benta?... Is she worth betraying your family for?...

Leo: I don't owe you any explanation on my actions, I don't even have to answer that question

Melvin: yes you do... Are you in love with my wife?

Jade looked at him and so did Lorna..

Lorna: what wife?

Melvin: I only have one legally wedded wife mother... Leo?...
