Chapter 8
Zeus POV
Ares took off early to the mission I assigned him. Although he seemed, nervous, with the current mission, I knew he would complete it perfectly without any flaws. I entrusted my pack matters to him. And I knew it that I could entrust the safety of my mate to him also. There were no words to describe my excitement. My life was going to take a different route with Gaia’s presence. We were going to rule the world together. Bring each other the balance we need the most. The first visit I made to her on the night of her birth, I sealed our mate-bond. It was forbidden to do so and my wolf was punished severely for doing so. People knew me as the cruelest alpha of all the times. But I was no God. My sufferings were the evidence to that. Although some people would think I’m an ungrateful bastard. I had the world worshipping the very ground I walk on and then I claimed that I was suffering? Yah well, that did sound bad.
I walked down a dim-lit hallway to Athena’s chambers. Athena was the packs Vargamor, the strongest seer of all the times. He was the one who first saw the coming of Gaia, way back before her parents could even meet. I knocked once on his large wooden double door before pushing them forward and inviting myself in. He was huddled by his desk with his monocle pushed to the end of his nose bridge. There were a lot of papers spread across his table, probably the framework of his next turnigy or whatever he does at his free time. He sensed my presence a little further and rose, then bowed slightly, acknowledging my presence.
“Ulfric Zeus!” he greeted me with his scruffy voice. Although he was among those who had my honor and blessings, I really hated his voice. It was bone chilling. Every time he opened his mouth to say something, I would shudder even before he uttered anything. His voice had that shriek that sounded like a squeal, on top of it; it had that scruff in it as if he’s been quiet for a long time. Or like it is squeezed out of him. He really didn’t have the loveliest voice.
“Athena?” I called back at him before sitting on the chair opposite to his.
“I am trying to find the way to help you re-conceal your mate-bond. It was broken by your...” he cleared his throat before continuing. “-your encounter with Lupa Gaia. I may have not mentioned it before but any form of intimate between mates break the seal. So I have to re-seal it if you please Ulfric.” He finished his words nervously pushing his monocle up his nose.
“Oh? I was not aware of that. But that's the least of our problems right now. She already knows that I am her mate and I want you to completely break of the seal so that she fully recognizes me.” I declared.
“Yes Ulfric. And about the glasshouse you requested, it is complete. I had it equipped with flower pots and it is absolutely how you wanted it. I am sure Lupa Gaia will be moved by your acts.” That had Zeus snorting at the back of my head. Zeus wanted to claim Gaia even before she came of age. He was in hurry to meet Silvanus and go for runs with her. But Dyaus had different plans.
“I surely hope so. She doesn’t have the best opinion of me.” I said laughing. The way she described me always had my throwing my head back with laughter. It was so funny to an extend that I really wished I could see whatever was going on in her mind when she talked about me. My own mate hated every guts of me and I did not blame her. I was just about to rip her from her pack and bind her to my side for eternity.
After chatting about Athena’s fabrisks, I left his chambers and climbed back to mine where I prepared for her arrival.
GAIA POV
The talk with my mother really eased my nerves. I knew I had to face Zeus head on and be prepared for whatever he threw my way instead of wallowing in self-pity and questioning the decisions of the Moon Goddess. I did not know why the Goddess made me for Zeus. But instead of fighting it, I planned to embrace it and change my fate. If I was destined to die in the hands of Zeus, and then I was going to turn the fate upside down and have him die in my hands. It was not going to be easy. But I had to fight till the last drop of my blood if I wanted to come out as a winner.
My heart felt lighter than it had felt since I received the news. I took that as a chance to call Pallas to the lake. Our favorite meeting spot. He also lived near in the houses by the castle that were meant for refugees. Pallas was an orphan found by my mother on the street. She took him in and fed him and treated him like his own. Then he promised to serve my mother as his form of gratitude in return. My mother told him the only thing he could serve her with was keeping me company. He was two grades ahead of me since primary school and now that he graduated high school two years back, I was left alone at school and I missed him a lot.
I fished my phone put of my pocket and dialed his number. I felt guilty for the messages and calls I left unanswered because I was busy crying my heart out. He answered on the fourth ring:
“Your highness? I was beginning to wonder that you are dead!” he said playfully.
“Ugh! Stop with your rants and come to the lake.”
“I missed you too.”
“I didn’t say I missed you, you dumbass!” I retorted with a smile on my face. The truth was, I really missed him. But on top of that, I was going to miss him a lot. If Zeus had a little bit of a heart inside that immortal body, maybe he’d let me visit them once I was in his grasp.
“I’ll be there in a second.” He replied. I could hear a smile in his voice.
“Okay. See you!” I hung up the call and walked towards the lake with steady but unhurried steps. I took a second to take in my surrounding. The castle. The double story houses that marred the north side of the castle. My glasshouse that rested on a little hill just on the west side of the castle. The big garden where my coronation was held. I wondered for a second if Zeus saw me on that day. My father told me he was there. Did he like was he saw when I made nature sing? Or he just appeared from nowhere and scared the s**t out of my father by telling him to choose between his pack and me? Why didn’t he want to meet me first so that I at least see him? Maybe he wasn’t even my mate. And he just wanted to find a way to wreak havoc at my pack and thought my dad would choose me over the pack. Was it really going to be good to have a mate? Regardless of him being…him! I always saw the she-wolves from my pack getting so excited over the idea of finally having a mate. And once they found them, they were inseparables. Few days after meeting with their mates, they would smooch at almost every corner of the earth. Regardless whether they have an audience or not. Although it was lovely to see them happy with their mates, it made them look like horny teenagers.
My mother always told me that meeting your mate was the sweetest thing ever in life. she said that each wolf has a unique scent, sensed by their mate only. She also said that their scent is so fresh and intoxicating and when you are an alpha, you just can’t help but want to jump on their bones right there and there. She would tell me of how they met with my father. And how much they’ve barely kept their hands from each other since.
I yelped when someone suddenly grabbed me tight by my shoulders. My first reaction was to bring my hands together in attempt to summon my power of light and blind my capturer’s eyes before I rip their throats out with my fangs. But whoever that was, was clever because he caught my hands and pulled them to my back. My thought was- is he finally he to take me?
“Chill woman. I’m not fighting you!” Pallas deep voice rattled right behind my ear. I heaved a sigh of relief and turned to give him a big hug. I pulled him tighter against me until he had no choice but to return the hug.
“You scared the s**t out of me!” I confessed breathing in his minty scent.
“You are not a scady-cat. What got you so worked up?” he asked untangling himself from my embrace. He looked at me right in the eye, assessing me. I looked down and sighed heavily.
I moved from his grasp and stood next to me and stared at the lake ahead of us.
“If I had a mate, what do you think he would look like?” I asked letting my thoughts wonder for the umpteenth time.
“Well, whoever he is, he should have balls of steel because you my darling…” he shoved me with his elbow a bit. “-are a hard nut to crack. He should be handsome and he should be strong. Because damn, no wolf has won a fight against you. I guess that covers almost everything.” He said shoving his hands in his pockets and staring at the lake.
“Hey? You make me sound like a bad person.” I said hitting his arm with a fist.
“Ouch. Damn. Your fist is like one made of steel!” he feigned hurt and rubbed the area I just hit while also scrunching his face.
“Pallas come on. You lying.” I laughed and ran down a small hill that led to the lake shore. He came paddling hot on my heels. He hated it when I called him by his name. He preferred Pal. He claimed that his name sounded like some weird tasting dish. How could I argue with that? He soon caught up with me and we perched ourselves on the tree trunk that fell years ago.
“Why are you suddenly asking about mates? You just turned 18. Desperate much?” I took a moment before replying him.
“I wish it was the latter.” I sighed.
“No way! You have a mate? Who in the universe is that and where was I when he found you?” he asked surprised.
“You were probably playing your games or sleeping your lazy off. And no, I have not met my mate. Yet!” I made an emphasis on the yet part. We spend our noon playing chase by the shore. At around 7, my phone rang. It was my mother calling us for dinner. We raced back to the castle where we arrived panting and washed our hands before sitting on the dinner table. Dinner was served hot and it was mouthwatering. We ate with Pallas telling us about his university life in Japan. After that, everyone retreated to their rooms and Pal left to his house that was just a few feet from the castle.
Upon reaching my room, I took a quick shower. I was really surprised because I felt so exhausted. Like I haven’t had rest in what felt like forever. After creaming my body, I put on a pair of sleeping shorts and a camisole. The sudden urge to sleep had me lying in bed without even properly sleeping. Silvanus whimpered, trying to stay awake. But I guessed we were both too tired. Thinking about Zeus had drained me. Mentally and emotionally. A good sleep was what I needed. My eyes closed as soon as I hit the pillow and sleep drunk me in.
The sound of a whir and clunks of plate had me slowly blinking my eyes. The room was dimly lit. I groaned and rubbed my eyes trying to find Melina and tell her to switch off the lights.
“Ah! She’s alive. I was beginning to think that the drug killed you!” a very strange voice cleared my foggy mind and in a second, I realized I was not lying in my bed but on a strange bed. In a plane. Or private jet since planes don’t have beds. I sprinted out of the bed ready to attack. The man stood slowly from where he was seated at right side of the left.
“Stay right where you are or I swear I will rip your head off your neck in no time and you wouldn’t believe it.” I threatened although I was scared. The man was huge. 6”5 feet tall with long black almost shiny hair framing his face.
“I mean no harm. I am just doing as I was told!” he raised his hands. Well that was not expected from a man as big as him. That nearly had me lowering my gut down. I took a good look at him before firing him with questions.
“Who are you and where are you taking me to?” I asked, still alert. He gave a small bow and replied.
“Lupa Gaia! My name is Ares of the Kratos Pack!” like a bucket of icy water, reality slap me hard in the face that my knees gave out. Sudden vertigo had me on my knees on the floor.
“I didn’t even get a chance to say goodbye!”
