Chapter 1
GAIA POV
The early morning sunlight streaked across the room, beckoning me to get out of my comfortable bed. With a happy smile and a sigh, I got up into a sitting position and began stretching my body. The day has finally arrived. With that thought in mind, I stepped off my bed and scurried to the bathroom across my room. Upon entering, I found Melina already drawing a bath for me. Pecks of having maids!
“Good morning Melina.” I greeted her with a huge smile. Her head turned towards the door where I stood with my hand on the doorknob. She quickly got off from the tub where she was perched and made a curtsy. The mandatory greeting of the royals!
“Greetings princess”
“I told you the curtsy is not necessary when we are alone Melina. Alpha Dante will not have your head.” I walked towards her and slapped her arm playfully. She gave me the warmest smile ever.
“I wouldn’t dare princess.” With that, she walked towards me and helped me out of my nightgown. She then held my hand and guided me into the tub of warm water- cancel that, a tub of lather, and had me seated.
“You sure do love your bubbles!” I remarked once I was fully seated.
“For your relaxation, I always go the extra mile.” She replied earning herself a soft chuckle from me. She handed me a loofa so that I wash my body while she worked on my waist-length-platinum-blonde hair. We both worked in comfortable silence which helped a lot on my nerves. That was until she said:
“How is your research on the alpha of the KRATOS PACK?”
“I wish I had good news. I really do not understand why the strongest alpha would decide to be a mystery. Even the internet does not have a single photo of him. The legends have it that he’s tall, has rough edges, and blah… but I really don’t think so. I think he’s a creepy scrawny creature with millions of scars marring his face. You get what I mean?” I replied scrubbing my body hard. Melina chuckled.
“And why would you think the strongest god of immortals would be creepy and scrawny?” her fingers massaged my scalp causing my eyes to flutter close.
“Think of it. If he was, alluring, the internet would be having gazillion pictures of him. His statues would be in museums along with his portraits. Instead, there is nothing. They say the only ones who have seen his real face are the members of his pack. And that they are forbidden to use phones and cameras anywhere near him. I mean what kind of a brute person would do that?” by now my face was scrunched. A mere thought of the “legendary” alpha puzzled me. Any news and stories of him always had a dead end. Nobody knew what he looked like and if one was found giving information about him, he would be sentenced to a slow painful death.
He was known as the cruelest, heartless, and most unkind alpha of the times. There were millions of stories about him, about how he captured small packs and imprisoned the alphas while torturing them to their deaths. Additionally, there were stories of how he welcomed refugees, the ruined, the destroyed, and fed them, and made them whole again. Nothing about him added up. How could one be the cruelest yet be the kindest? I mean that did not add up at all.
With me ranting about my assumptions of the mysterious Alpha, we finished washing me up. I got out of the tub and stepped into an awaiting fluffy towel which I wrapped myself with and walked into the dresser. The other four maids were already waiting with a tray of tea and cake on the nearby side table. They all curtseyed upon my entrance and stepped back to leave room for me. I sat at an awaiting stool for them to do their work. Without dilly-dallying, they all got to work. One presented a convoy of gowns I was to choose from for the function, the other presented tons of shoes, while the other pulled on my hair and began tying it. I just sat there and slowly munched on a soft cake prepared by the cooks. Good goddess! It was soooooooo good.
One particular gown caught my eye. It was an emerald green mermaid gown with a tail about a meter and a half long. It had crystals and jewels for embellishments and oh goddess was it breathtaking. The bodice was sweetheart-shaped, with crystals outlining the shape. It was slick and shiny and so ready for me to wear.
“Amanda, that green gown?” I called the maid who hurriedly brought it to me.
“Yes princess!” she held it next to me. My hand drew closer to it and my fingers brushed slightly on the smoothest material. Pure silk. It was so soft against my skin and couldn’t help but fall in love with it even more. I informed them that I will be wearing it. They quickly got me dressed up and paired the dress with sparkling LV heeled sandals. My look was complemented by beach waves that were bundled in a messy bun at the back of my neck. Melina placed the diamond tiara on my head and that was it. I was ready for my eighteenth birthday and my anointing.
I smiled at my reflection in a monster-sized mirror and twirled around. Voices came from the corridor which caused me to step out of the dressing room. As soon as I stepped into my bedroom the door swung open and in came Hermes- my father’s advisor and long-time butler. There was just something about him, he was, not aging. Memories of him from my childhood still held the same man that was smiling from ear to ear in front of me.
“You look so beautiful your highness.” He playful made a bow which had me giggling like crazy.
“Stop that would you?” I slowly twirled around and he clapped his hands playfully. We exchanged a few words before he said:
“Look what I brought for you.” My ears perked up in curiosity. He slowly stepped out the door and held put his hand to his left side. There he pulled a handsome-looking Pallas who was holding a bouquet of black roses.
“No way!” I yelped loudly and ran to his waiting arms where he engulfed me and twirled around with me.
“You are here!” I breathed into his neck while I held him closely.
“I wouldn’t miss this day in a million years. You turn 18 once!" he placed me on the floor and playfully flicked the tip of my nose. I carefully studied him. He did not look like a 19-year old that I’ve known since I said my first word. We were inseparable. That was until he went to Japan to pursue his studies. Supernatural or not, one had to study right?
“Damn you bathed so well!” I swatted his arm.
“You know me!” he winked at me and held out his elbow, which I gladly placed my hand at its nook and we smiled at each other. We walked out of my room with Melina and Hermes behind. We slowly descended the stairs that led to the lobby with me laughing at his silly jokes.
“My precious little girl!” my mother cooed scooping me into her arms. She was also wearing a fine white silk gown with a fur shawl around her arms.
“Good morning mother!” I smiled at her as I held her arms. She went about how much beautiful I am.
“Goddess! You’ve grown so much in a short time. It was just yesterday when I was wiping your poopy little buttocks and now…”
“Geeeeee mother! These people do not want to hear about the buttocks of the future Alpha do they?” I clamped a hand on her mouth to stop her. The people behind me laughed.
“Silly me. I’m just so delighted for you my lovely thing.” She said kissing my cheek softly.
“Are you ready?” she asked with the brightest smile.
With a deep sigh, I smiled and breathed
“I was born ready!”
