As I had suspected the elder council did not leave the next day. One day turned into one week, then three. It seemed they themselves did not want to leave my pack. They had been enjoying themselves as they watched the pack grow. They watched as homes were built and the warriors trained. They watched as hundreds more joined the pack. Some alphas brought their entire pack to join while some camr to me beaten bruised and broken. I accepted them all, while the elder council looked on in amazement.
"It seems you were not exaggerating." Elder John said as he came to stand beside me while I conjured yet another home. "About what?" I asked as I turned to him. "About how your pack grows. How supernaturals of every kind come to join you. You do not turn anyone away. You are strong and willing to help even the weakest that come to you."
"See that is the problem with most alphas. They believe just because someone is weak they can never grow strength. That is wrong. You see that woman over there?" The one wearing the red workout outfit?" I asked as the woman dropped a man twice her size. John watched in amazement as he nodded. "Well, that woman was beaten, tortured, r***d. She was weak and broken when I found and saved her. She would let no man near her. She would cower and cry whenever someone got near her. Now look at her. She is the strongest female warrior in the pack. People can grow John, they can get over fear and weakness. As long as they have the right mind set, determination, the will and someone there to have their back and encourage them, they can become anything they set their mind to."
It was honestly awful I had to explain this to someone who was ranked to highly in the supernatural world. But I shouldn't be surprised. Men like him craved power, demanded submissions and obedience. But that is not the way to have a successful pack. It took a mutual respect. The knowledge that should anything go wrong someone would be there to have their back. "I see your point." John said in a clipped tone.
I sighed. "John, I do not know what I've done to have you show me such disdain, but it needs to stop. I may not be your alpha, but respect works both ways and until you can show me respect I will not award you with mine."
I walked away, leaving John to think about what I've said. I know it won't make a difference, the man ran and functioned on fear. He ran his pack with fear instead of respect and one day that would come and bite him on the ass. Fear is no way to handle people, no way to show them you are worthy.
I pushed John out of my mind as I walked through the territory, seeing just how much had been done since I'd taken over as alpha. We had our own little town. Homes were almost done, stores littered the center of what was now town square. We had clothing stores, restaurants, a bar, grocery stores, even a coffee shop. we didn't need much, just enough so all the pack members could get what was needed for their families. All members were paid for their work so they could buy what was needed for their family, and all of it was paying off. Every member had their own home and we were building new ones for new members. I also had several working on an apartment building to save room.
"Willow." I heard Nicholas call. I turned and gave him a polite smile. "Hello Nicholas. What can I do for you?" I asked. "I just want to give you a suggestion. Your beta and gamma are struggling to keep up with their work as are you and Klaus. Why don't you appoint a few more betas and gammas to help. There are many worthy, strong and dominate people here."
I sighed, I had already been thinking about doing that. It made sense and we were struggling. "I know, I have thought about that myself, Especially with Klaus and I leaving soon." Nicholas looked at me with confusion and I chuckled. "We will be going to his home to visit for a week or two. Klaus is homesick and he needs the break." Nicholas's mouth formed and o shape as he registered what I'd said. "Could you help and do me a favor?" I asked. "Of course. What is it?"
"Walk the territory, tell every member you see I need them to gather at the pack house. I will mind link as well." Nicholas agreed and started walking to the most populated portion of out land. "Friends and family." I said through the mind link. "I need everyone to gather at the pack house, I have an announcement to make."
I massaged my neck as I walked back towards the pack house, hoping to ease the tension and unease that has settled around me. I could feel it, the feeling as if something wasn't right, or something was wrong. As much as I tired I couldn't shake it, but I could hide it from the pack until the announcement was made. "Willow, you can't just push this away." Eve warned. "You must trust your instincts." I huffed. "I know Eve, but how am I supposed to do that when I have no idea what it means?" I asked grumpily. "Juts keep all your senses open and be prepared for anything."
I did as she said. I opened all my senses, including the mind link to my pack. It was painful and chaotic but necessary. As I reached the pack house a lot of the pack was already here. I walked through the growing crowd to the top of the stairs and faced them, waiting for the remainder of the pack to arrive. Klaus, the elder council, Damon and Ryland came to stand at my side.
Once everyone was there I took a deep breath. "I have called all of you here today because our family is growing. New members are arriving everyday, seeking help, shelter or just to join and be part of our family. With our growing family Elder John has convinced me to do something I have been thinking about doing for a while now.
The work for my beta, gamma and I are growing. We are having a hard time keeping up with with everything necessary to keep the pack running smoothly. So I have decided to appoint two new betas and two gammas to help. First. Asher, our dragon shifter. You are to be one of our new betas." I announced. Asher strut forward, a beaming smile on his face. "Thank you for this opportunity alpha, I won't let you down." I patted him on the shoulder with a smile. "I know you won't Asher."
"Next beta will be Amelia." Her eyes widened as she made her way to me. She was clearly surprised and I couldn't help but smile. "Don't worry Amelia, you will be an amazing beta. You are our strongest female warrior. You are smart, capable and caring. You'll do great." I assured her. "Thank you alpha, I will do my best to make you proud." I smiled and nodded at her.
"Now our two new gammas will be Nathan a tiger shifter, and Diane a bear shifter." They both made their way up to me and bowed in respect. I smiled as they took their place by my side. "As you can see, our new higher ranked members are of different race. I believe it will help keep our pack diverse. Having someone of higher rank represent your respective race is a must to keep the pack running. So we have a cat shifter to represent the feline clans, a bear to represent the bears, a dragon and now I must appoint another gamma. Felix, he will represent our vampire family."
Felix made his way to me, bowed and stood next to the other gammas. "Now for the next announcement. Klaus and I will be leaving the pack soon. It is time we go to his home. Since we have mated Klaus has shown unyielding faith, respect and dedication to this pack. It is time I go to his clan and show my respect and dedication to them. All betas and gammas will care for the pack while we're gone. My mind link will remain open to them should any danger arise. And if it does, Emerald will be able to open a portal where we will be here in a matter of seconds.
Now that everything is out of the way, all of you can go home the rest of the day and take tomorrow off, All of you deserve a break and to spend time with your family." The pack cheered before making their way home. I smiled knowing the pack was happy and thriving and supported my decision for our new higher ranked members.
While Damon and Ryland were filling in the others of the jobs they needed to get done, Klaus and I walked into the house and up to our room. We packed our bags for when we'd leave which we decided on leaving within the next month. I needed to wait until the others had become accustom to their new roles within the pack.
