The new bets's and gamma's were not easily getting the hang of their new positions. The only one who seemed to have understood and is now standing alone is Amelia. Amelia was taking her new position as beta seriously and with a renewed vigor I have never seen in her before. She was born to be a beta, and I couldn't help but wonder why I never saw it in her before. "Because she was broken when we found her." Jade reminded me.
I growled, that was something I never wanted to remember. The way that bastard treated my people, my family, still infuriated me to this day. "Calm now." Eve reprimanded. "That's all over now, you've saved them. If you can't move on the pack won't be able to either. They draw strength and will from you. If you continue to hold a grudge against the failed alpha, so will the pack. A grudge is a distraction, one you nor the pack can afford to have in the coming war."
I sighed heavily. Letting go just like that was hard. The man abused and tortured my pack. Let them live in poverty, made them starve. But Eve was right, I couldn't continue to hold a grudge. The man was dead, long gone. He will never be able to harm my family again. So I did what Eve said, Inlet it go. He was not worth the head space he occupied, he was not worth a second of my thoughts.
"Alpha." Someone shouted. I turned to see Asher running up to me. "Yes Asher, what is it?" I tried to keep the annoyance out of my tone, but it was hard. "What do I do with this?" He asked thrusting a paper into my face. I growled lowly at his impatience. He flinched back, withdrawing the paper in the process. "Forgive me Alpha." He said lowly. "Just give it to me Asher." I said exasperated.
He handed me the paper more appropriately this time, and I looked it over. Seriously? He couldn't handle this? All it was was an order form for building materials that required mine or a beta's signature. "Asher it's an order form." I deadpanned. "Yes I know. But how do I know if the information is correct?" He countered. I ran my hand down my face and groaned. "Asher." I stated. "Go to the builders and talk to Jason, he is in control of ordering materials."
He nodded and took off towards Jason. They really need to step up their game if Klaus and I were going to be able to leave in a few days. I had thought they were competent enough to grasp their new titles and job without fail, I was wrong. "Alpha." Someone else called. I had to physically force myself not to growl at whomever it was. "What?" I demanded turning yet again. Could people never address me from the front? Must they always come from behind me? "Alpha, there are more supernaturals on the northern boarder." Amelia informed me. "Did they tell you what they wanted?" She shook her head and I sighed. "Very well I'll go check it out. Keep an eye on they harvesting for me please. And should you see Asher, help him is he needs it please. He seems to be having a hard time grasping his new duties."
Amelia nodded and I shifted and took off. It felt good to be able to run as my wolf, though I'd need to shift into my lycan soon, Eve was getting antsy. "Damn right I am." She growled. I stopped in my tracks and chuckled. "Would you like to come out Eve? I know whoever is at the boarder will have quite a shock when you show up." Eve laughed darkly as I shifted into my lycan. The black prickly fur spreading over my body as it grew in height. My muzzle extended as my fangs elongated and sharpened.
When the shift was complete Eve roared her happiness at being freed and took off running at an inhuman speed to the boarder where the supernaturals were waiting for me. Eve smiled at the thought of the people waiting, she wanted to show them who we are, show them who the alpha is. I loved her for it. She was dominant, fiercely protective, and loyal to a fault. But she also enjoyed giving people a scare every now and again.
Eve made it to the boarder in record time. She slowed her pace as the approached the group. They were staring wide eyed as she slowly as she stalked towards them. "Eve, stop scaring them." Klaus chuckled rubbing her back. She purred a deep rumbling purr at his touch. I laughed "Let's shift." I instructed. Eve whined a little but did as I suggested. The shift was quick and easy with no pain. The complete opposite from when I first shifted. I cringed as the memories sprang to the front of my mind. I don't think much of anything could compare to my first shift to lycan.
"I am alpha Willow. What is it you want?" I asked as politely as I could. They looked between each other hesitantly before a man with golden hair and seafoam eyes faced me. "I am Alpha Mason, I am here to request that I and my pack join yours." He said bowing his head to me. "Is this something you have thought through? You will lose your title and control of your pack." I informed him.
He looked back to his people and sighed. 'Yes, I am aware of the consequences. But my pack has become a target for rouges. Many of our people have been slaughtered. The rouges have killed men women and children, they have kidnapped some of our pups as well, have no heart. My pack has lost hope, many of the mothers who lost a child killed themself. They can't take much more." Mason said sadly.
"Children?" I seethed. "They've killed your pups?" Mason flinched at my angered ton but nodded. "Klaus, take care of the pack for a little while, I have some rouges to kill." Klaus nodded curtly, he was angry as well but agreed to let me deal with them. "Mason, how far away are your people?" Mason stared at me with his mouth agape. "Mason!" I demanded angrily. "Uh, not far. About two days run." He said
"Two days for you maybe." I said under my breath. "Mason, you're coming with me. The rest of you follow Alpha Klaus." I instructed. "Yes Alpha." They replied and followed Klaus back towards the pack house. "Mason, this is going to be an odd request but I need you to ride on my back. We'll get there faster that way." I didn't give him time to answer. I quickly shifted into my large black wolf and crouched low to the ground for Mason to climb on. "Are you sure about this Alpha?" Mason asked unsure. I growled, irritated that he'd question me. "Just get on." I commanded pushing my thoughts to his. "And show me the way."
Mason quickly clambered onto my back causing me to roll my eyes at his sudden clumsiness. Once he was safely on my back and latched to my fur I took off. The breath was knocked out of Mason's lungs at the sudden and intense lurch forward. I couldn't bring myself to care. The only thing on my mind was getting those pups back and killing the rouges that killed the others. How could anyone kill a child? How could anyone be so heartless and cruel? "They have no heart, no empathy." Emerald said with acid in her tone. I growled again, quickly picking up my pace as Mason gave me directions to his territory.
"How fast can you go?" Mason yelled over the howling of the wind. I chuckled "Much faster than this." I answered. "Please go as fast as you can. I just got a link from my beta, the rouges are back." He pleaded. "Mason, the force could kill you if I go my full speed." I warned. "I don't care, save my pack." His complete selflessness and willingness to sacrifice himself for his people fueled me. "Lean forward until your entire body is pressed firmly into my back. Bury your head into my shoulder blades. Hold on tight and don't look up for any reason until we stop." I instructed.
He quickly did as I asked and I sighed praying nothing would happen to him. "I will protect him." Emerald said. I felt a warmth inside me and it spread into my sides, then my back and wrapped around Mason. I breathed a sigh of relief and took off. The woods around us turned into a blur of color as I raced to save Mason's pack. I didn't need his directions anymore, his scent was everywhere letting me know we were close.
When I finally crossed his packs boarders I growled. Rouges were chasing pups around the territory while their parents were fighting. Sobbing women were being restrained while what looked to be their mates body lay at their feet. "Get off." I growled at Mason. He immieditely jumped off and shifted before his feet hit the ground. Jade let out and earth shattering howl, stopping everyone in their tracks. I shifted to my human form and glowered at the rouges. "Shift." I commanded everyone.
Within a second everyone had shifted and naked men and women stood before me. I manifested them some clothes and walked forward. "All rouges, come." I shouted. Against their will they all stepped forward. You could see they were struggling with my command as they all stopped before me. "Where are the pups?"
They all clamped their mouths firmly shut. I could see some of them visibly biting their lips as to not speak. I laughed humorlessly. "Do you honestly believe that will help?" Fear danced in their eyes at my words. "Now, who will be the one to tell me where they are?" Movement caught my attention as a small timid looking girl stepped forward. My eyes softened a bit as I watched her approach. She couldn't be any older than twelve, which made me wonder why she was even here.
"What is your name and how old are you?" I asked kneeling down to her level. "I...I am Ly...Lyra." She stuttered. "I..I am eleven." I looked up to the other rouges narrowing my eyes. "Why did they send you with them Lyra?" Her eyes flickered between me and the other rouges. "Don't worry child, they can't hurt you." I assured her. "They kidnapped me when I was nine. They said I had to come, I had to help them kidnap more kids. I didn't want to, but there is a pup back in their pack whom I have got attached to. He is five and they threatened his life if I didn't come." Tears had started to form in her eyes as she spoke.
I stood and ushering the child behind me I growled at the rouges. "You will take me to your territory and you will show me who leads you." I told them harshly. "I can take you." Lyra's bell like voice ringed behind me. "Mason." I called. He quickly came and stood before me. "Yes Alpha." I looked from him to Lyra. "Take Lyra, shield her. She doesn't need to see what I'm about to do. There is no need to traumatize her anymore than she already is." Mason nodded as he picked her up and swiftly ran away to what I was assuming was the pack house.
I made quick work of killing every rouge that dared attack and kidnap innocent children. Screams were heard throughout the territory as they were ripped to shreds. Eve relished in their pain and deaths. She gave them no mercy, killing them the most painful way she could. She made sure they suffered.
When the last rouge fell Eve howled into the sky. Trees trembled under her power. "Let's get the others." She growled to me. "We will don't worry." I grit out. "Mason!" I yelled for him. Mason walked out Lyra treading behind him. When she looked at the bloodbath in front of her and back to me in lycan form she smiled and ran to me. "Thank you." She whispered as she snuggled into the rough fur on Eve's leg. Eve smiled down at her. "Can we keep her?" Eve asked pleadingly. I laughed at her "I don't know. It depends on if she still has a pack or parents or not." Eve whined as she reached down and picked the child up.
"Can you lead us to where we need to go?" Eve asked gently. Not many knew Eve could speak in this form, but she made an exception for the child in her arms. Lyra smiled and nodded before she pointed us in the direction we needed to go. "Thank you." Eve said as she rubbed her nose on the small child's causing Lyra to giggle. "Mason, can you take care of this mess?" She asked turning to him. "Of course goddess." He said. goddess? really? Did he have to call me that?
I didn't correct him though, we just nodded at him and took off running. We were going to save those children and try to return them home to their parents. That's if they still have parents to return them to.
