Everyone was exhausted by the time we made it back to Mason's pack. Emerald was worn to the bone, completely drained of her magic from keeping the children shielded from any attacks. The older pups had ended up having to carry some of the younger ones who had grown too tired and weak to walk any further. And Jade? Well her massive form had ended up carrying eight of the pups from Mason's pack, who were now sound asleep. Jade did her best to keep her stride slow and even, trying to make sure none of them slipped off. Something would surely have been broken if they had.
I howled as I crossed Masons's boarders, calling out our return and calling for help with the children. Before Jade could even end her howl people swarmed around us. We growled a warning to them, causing them to back away. They were all still jittery, almost unable to keep their excitement and desperation under control. I understood their impatience, really I did. But there was other children here who would not take kindly to being swarmed by a group of strangers, especially after what has happened to them. Rather the group could see the children or not, they could still see them.
"Alpha Willow." Mason spoke bowing his head. "Were you able to get all the children." I nodded. "Emerald, you can drop the shield now. Rest now, I can take it from here." She sighed in relief as she dropped the shield and crumpled to the ground in my mind. I was worried about her, she has pushed herself too far tpp soon after making herself known, she is not yet at full power. "We'll watch after her Willow, get the pups taken care of." Ezekiel said.
"DADDY!" I heard the loud and piercing scream of a child. I looked up just in time to see a girl around five run into a mans waiting arms. "Where is mommy?" She asked looking around the growing crowd. The man looked to me and I could see the sorrow in his eyes. She was one of the women who took her life after the girl was kidnapped. "Mary.." The man's broken voice broke my heart. I walked over to them and nudged the girls head with my nose. "Mary." I pushed my thoughts into hers and her fathers mind gently. "Your mommy thought the best was she could help you was to join the my mother the goddess. The goddess agreed and brought you mom to live with her. That way no matter where you are or what you're doing she will be able to see you, she will always know where you are and will never lose you again. Even now she is looking down on you and smiling. She is so proud of you Mary, and she loves you so much. And know this, just because you can not see her doesn't mean she isn't there. Your daddy couldn't see you at first right? Not until Emerald dropped her shield?"
Mary nodded at me sadly, she understood where her mom was. "It's just like that. Her presence is being shielded by the goddess, but she is till here with you, never forget that. Talk to her every day, tell her how you're doing, your fears, your troubles. Tell her everything, and you will fell her there beside you." Her father looked up at me with watery eyes 'thank you' he mouthed to me before picking the girl up and taking her home.
As all the children from Mason's pack found their families, sobs and cries of joy and sadness filled the small area. So many of these children had lost their mother after their a*******n. It broke my heart, and it scared me beyond belief for when Klaus and I had our own child. "Alpha?" A broken looking man whispered to me, his eyes filled with tears. "Did you find our baby? Did you find our Hunter?" I nudged his face gently and crouched down to the ground to show the rest of Mason's pack pups on my back still fast asleep.
Tears streamed down Lyra's face as she gently picked Hunter up and kissed his cheek before handing him over to his father. "This is Lyra." I whispered in the man's mind as I watched the heart break in Lyra's eyes. "She protected him, was even willing to sacrifice her life for his when the rouges threatened him. He is alive today because of her."
The man looked down on the boy dejectedly. "I..I... I can't do this." The man was completely broken. He handed the boy back to Lyra as he cried. "I am not from Alpha Mason's pack. I heard what happened and that a goddess was saving them. I had to come and see if he was still alive. But without his mother, without my mate, I am not longer the man, the father I once was. Please Alpha, take him with you. Raise him to be strong, kind and help him understand why I am doing this. It is what's best for him."
I nodded, and the man helped Lyra climb back onto my back with a sleeping Hunter in her arms. "Thank you Alpha." He whispered, before shifting and running. His heartbroken howls ringing through the air as he ran.
"Alpha, would you like to stay here and rest for the night?" Mason asked. I looked around to worn out pups around me and nodded. "Follow me, we will get the pups set up in a room in the pack house. We will make sure you're all fed before you leave in the morning." I followed Mason into the pack house as he slowly pulled the younger ones off my back and placed them in beds. When everyone was finally set up in a room and I knew they were safe I shifted back.
"Mason, I need to speak with you." He gave me a confused look but led me to his office. I dropped myself tiredly into one of the chairs in his room and sighed. It felt so good to be able to sir after such a long and trying adventure. "The rest of the pups that came with me. They no longer have a pack or a family, they will be joining me back at my pack where they will find a family that will love and care for them and raise them the way they deserve. When they are rested up and ready we will head back home where they can get use to their new lives and families. But my question is, do you still wish to join my pack or do you want to keep yours? I ask that you take under consideration this is not over, there are still rouges out there that will want to pick up where the others left off. They need power and numbers, they don't care the age as long as they get what they want."
Mason looked worried as he thought over my words, before sighing. We will join you Alpha. Give me some time to inform the pack and let them pack. We will join you in your lands within the month. "Very well. As result of your joining, I would like you to be a beta of the pack. The newly appointed betas are struggling with their work and having an alpha train them will help the pack tremendously." Mason stood and bowed his head. "I would be honored to be your beta and train the others. I will not let you down goddess."
"Now, can you please show me where I will be staying for the night? I would love a shower and to rest." Mason stood from his desk "Of course. Please follow me." I walked warily behind him as he showed me to my room where I quickly showered off all the blood. When I was done and walked out into the bedroom, I saw a new set of bed clothes and another set of clothes to wear tomorrow. I quickly dressed and climbed into bed.
"Klaus, are you still awake?" I asked softly through our link. "Yes love. I have been waiting on you. How did everything go? I felt your anger and concern." I sighed. "Well my vampire made himself known. He made quick work of the rouges and we saved all the pups. But many no longer have a pack or family. They will be coming home with me. Please ask around tomorrow and see if any family is looking to add a new member. Two of them will be living with us. Lyra is a eleven year old little girl. She is special. She is a lycan like me, except her lycan is the daughter of mine. She is the child of my soul, we will not be separated. Then there is Hunter a five year old boy. Lyra is attached and extremely protective of him, I won't make them go through the pain of separating them."
Klaus chuckled "I agree with you, and I can not wait to meet the two pups we are adding to our family. My parents would love to meet them." I smiled tiredly. "We will be able to go on our trip. A little later than planned but we can still go. Alpha Mason agreed to be one of our betas and teach the others so we could go." I could feel myself drifting and so could Klaus. "Rest now love, we can talk more about this when you get home. I love you, sleep well." My eyes closed as I smiled "I love you too my king." With those last words, the darkness of sleep consumed me and I slept peacefully with no dreams to wake me.
