Eve carried the child close to her as she ran. In a very short amount of time Eve has grown unusually attached to the girl. Which is saying something, Eve didn't like anyone except Klaus. She tolerates them, and is polite, but she does not like them. She believes that they are corrupted, power hungry people who only joined our pack for the power that comes with it.
So seeing Eve get so attached, so involved so quickly made me wonder what made this child so special. What did Eve see in her that no one else could. "Eve will tell you everything when this is all over." Emerald said. There was an emotion in her voice I've never heard before, and no matter how much I tried I could not place it. Sadness? Longing? concern? I didn't know, but I was more than ready to find out.
"Where to now?" Eve asked gently as she came to a stop. Lifting her head from Eve's shoulder Lyra looked around at her surroundings. Her eyes grew wide and a small whimper escaped her. Hearing the girls fear, Eve's hackles rose along with her anger. She growled deep within her chest. "Fear not child, no one can hurt you while you're with me." Eve tried to assure her. Lyra gave her a weak smile and snuggled back into Eve's shoulder. "The pack is straight ahead, not far." Her words were muffled, but we understood.
"And where do they keep the pups?" It was my voice this time and Lyra's eyes widened. I smiled "Don't worry Lyra. My name is Willow, I am just another half of Eve. There are many parts of us you may meet tonight so don't be afraid, no harm will come to you." I assured her. She nodded. "All the kids are kept in a building beside the pack house. It always has people outside to make sure none of us try to run."
Eve snarled. "Lyra, I need you to get on my back, Ok? Hold on as tight as you can and don't let go. Do you understand?" She nodded and crawled and tumbled onto Eve's back grasping tightly to the scruff on the back of her neck. "Let's get this over with. Eve I know how angry you are, but we need to end this quickly, the pups are our main concern." She growled at me, but agreed unwillingly. She wanted to make these people suffer. "We can come back when the pups are safe. ok?"
"Fine." She hissed. "But if anyone gets in our way I'll kill them." With all of us in agreement Eve shot through the trees and burst through the edge of the forest. She didn't stop, she didn't care what was on the other side of the trees, didn't care how many were here, all she cared about was saving the pups, especially Lyra's companion whom she almost sacrificed her life to save.
"That's it, that's where they are." Lyra shouted as she pointed to a dilapidated looking shed off to the side of a small log cabin. All of our anger rose as we saw where the pups were being held. I could feel Emerald's power consume me with her anger.
Eve wasted no time to getting to them, slashing the head off the three guards who was pacing in front of the building. When she broke the door down in her haste a chorus of screams echoed in the building, causing dust and debris fall from the ceiling. "Shh, now." Eve cooed. "We've come to save you." She told them. "HUNTER!!" Lyra screamed jumping from Eve's back and running to a small boy with vibrant blue eyes and raven black hair.
The boy threw himself at Lyra and sobbed into her shoulder. Lyra pet the boys hair as she whispered encouraging and soothing words in his ear. Eve was astounded. A child of eleven, soothing and comforting another child, protecting and caring for him. Lyra was special, I could see that now. Her kindness, her empathy and selflessness.
"Lyra." Eve called. She lifted her head from the boys's shoulder and looked over to us. "Lyra, I need you to gather all the pups quickly. We need to get out of here before anyone comes and tried to stop us." Eve tried to sound kind and not let her concern leak into her voice, but it was hard. Eve was not concerned about ourself, but concerned about what would happen should someone follow and try to stop us. "Don't worry. I'll shield us." Emerald finally spoke.
"Eve?" I asked lowly. "What is going on with Lyra?" Eve closed her eyes and sighed. "Not now Willow." I nodded, not wanting to push her right now, right now we needed to concentrate on saving the pups. Before long Lyra had all the pups gathered in front of us, and our jaws dropped, there were so many. Just by looking they ranged from three years old all the way up to at least fourteen, and there looked to be more than one hundred here. "How can we travel with so many?" I asked Eve and Emerald concerned.
"Don't worry we"ll..." Emeralds words were cut off as howls echoed through the night. s**t. They know were're here. "Lyra, keep everyone here. All you older pups, keep the younger ones as calm as possible, make no sound. We'll be right back."
With their nods as response we shot out the door while Emerald placed a shield over the building. The pack of rouges looked endless, more than we have ever taken on alone. "There is too many." I said panicked. I could feel Eve and Emerald's worry as the the group only seemed to grow. Their number made me wonder how many of these rouges were once in the same situation as the pups, how many of them were stolen from their families and turned into ruthless and heartless killers?
In that moment a sharp pain shot through my skull. The pain radiating through my face and into my teeth. The will power it took to not drop to the ground and scream was outrageous. We gritted our teeth painfully, as the pain slowly subsided.
"What the hell was that?" I all but shouted at them. A man's menacing and dark laugh echoed in my mind, causing me to freeze. "Do not fret young queen." The man's voice was smooth, almost seductive as he spoke. "I am Ezekiel, the original vampire. It seems you need my help." I sighed in relief as we all filled him in on what was happening.
I thought I had felt anger before, fury even. But what I felt after Ezekiel learned what had happened was beyond fury. It was undeniable rage. Ezekiel wanted nothing more than to let his wrath out on these good for nothing wolves. We all smiled "Go for it." Eve, Emerald and I said in unison. He smiled a dark and sinister kind of smile. "My pleasure." The venom in his voice was enough to send chills down my spine.
As Ezekiel came forward I felt as my body shrank from my Lycan form and shifted into something entirely different. My skin lightened to the point it was almost translucent, my body became leaner and firmer as my muscles grew and tightened into what seemed to be as hard as granite. "Our skin in impenetrable by any supernatural weapon. Fangs, claws it doesn't matter. Nothing can reach us."
"Go get them. Make them all pay. But quickly, the pups need us and we need to get them away from here." I reminded him. "Don't worry Willow. With yours, Eve's and my speed they couldn't dream to even see us move."
without another word Ezekiel darted into the masses, slashing and biting his way through the hoards of rouges. His speed was undeniable, while with Eve's speed the surroundings were blurred, with Ezekiel there was nothing. It was like teleporting. We'd be in one place one second and another the next. I was in awe of his strength and power. He was ruthless, not sparing any of them a second glance, never giving anyone a chance to even shift or raise a hand to him.
By the time he was done we were covered head to toe in blood. Every inch of skin and clothing red and dripping with the blood of Ezekiel's victims. When I looked around at the c*****e in front of me, I had to admit I was kind of scared. Body parts that he had ripped from his victims were scattered all around us. Heads that had been severed seemed to be looking right at me, their dying emotions frozen on their faces. Fear, terror, dread. I knew what had to be done, I knew these people deserved death, but death in this manner, this kind of unadulterated maliciousness, and hatred, it was something I have never seen nor felt before.
"That feeling came from us all, not just me." Ezekiel informed me. "I know." I sighed, upset and ashamed of myself. "We don't have time for this." Eve scorned us. "Those pups need us, we can discuss what we were feeling later. Now get your acts together and lets go." She was seething at this point. "Ezekiel we need to shift back."
He quickly agreed and I shifted back to human form and quickly made my way to the pups. They were all huddled together in the corner of the building, tears were streaming down the little ones faces as they silently cried into the older ones. "Lyra?" I called. She quickly stood up and made her way to me. "Hello Lyra. I am Willow, you met me through Eve's body." She nodded. "Are they dead?" She asked meekly. "Yes dear, they are all dead. Now tell me, do you have a pack or a family?" I asked.
She looked down and played with her hands nervously. I crouched down and pulled her face to face me. "What is it?" I asked gently. "None of us have a family. Well the pups recently taken do, but the rest of us, well the rouges killed our families, our packs, everyone." I looked up and and faced a boy, his face looked as if the frown was now a permanent part of his features, wrinkles creased his forehead. The stress and fear these pups have gone through was clear. All of them were thin and meek, Barely strong enough to stand on their feet.
"All of you from Alpha Mason's pack step forward." Around twenty or so pups stepped forward, the youngest being around four. "We are taking you home." I informed them. "The rest of you, you are all welcome to come back to my pack and join my pack. I am Alpha Willow of the Silver pack and we would love to have you join us."
"Alpha?" Lyra all but whispered. "Yes child?" I asked looking down to her. "Are you the Willow who is the moon goddesses daughter?" I smiled "Yes I am." She wrapped her arms around herself and I saw a tear fall from her eyes. I picked the girl up and wiped her tear. "Talk to me Lyra." I urged. "I want to stay with you and with Eve." She whispered. There it was again, Eve.
"Eve, it's time you tell me what the hell is going on here." I said sternly. Eve sighed in defeat. "Fine. Lyra is no normal werewolf." She said. "And what does that mean?" Eve snarled but told me anyway. "Lyra is a lycan. And not any lycan. Somehow and I don't know how, my daughter Annabeth has reincarnated into her. I will not lose her again Willow. Please don't make me go through that again."
I was speechless. Eve's daughter, another part of my soul, another part of me. "Yes Willow, that makes her the child of your soul." Eve told me gently. "Lyra, do you know who you are?" I asked. She nodded "I am Lyra host of Annabeth the original lycans daughter. She told me that she chose me because of my strength and compassion. She said I would make the ideal host. My wolf Star says I am special. Is that true Willow, am I special?" The hope that glimmered in the girls eyes made me smile.
"You have no idea how special you are." I said hugging her. "Do you know why you feel a pull towards my lycan Eve?" I asked. she shook her head as her brows scrunched together. "That is because Eve is the original lycan. Annabeth's mother."
Her eyes widened in surprise. "Really?" She beamed. I chuckled at her enthusiasm "Yes, really. Eve just told me everything, but I wanted to ask you to be sure. You haven't shifted yet right?" Her face fell "No, Annabeth says I can't shift into my lycan until I am at least twenty and Star says I have to be eighteen before I can shift into my wolf."
The sullen look on her face was amusing. "Don't worry Lyra. You will shift when you're ready and we will be right there with you." She started bouncing up and down in my arms in excitement. "Does this mean I am going to be your daughter? The daughter of a goddess?" I laughed. "You are going to be more than that. One day, when this brewing war is over, you will be a princess." Lyra squealed as she threw her arms around my neck.
"Come now pups, lets get you all home." I said putting Lyra on her feet. All of them smiled as you could physically see them relax. I was so glad these pups were safe and would stay safe. The horrid people k********g them were dead and gone. "This isn't over." Emerald warned. "I know." I sighed. "But lets just take this win. The pups are safe and will remain so. Some of them even get to go home to their parents, the others will come with us and will find a home there. There are couples in the pack that would love nothing more than to have a pup."
"You're right. Let's celebrate this win and get these pups taken care of." No matter what was coming, no matter what we had to deal with tomorrow, we won today and that's all I can ask for.
