Chapter 4

861 Words
Veronica's POV I ignore the dreadful looks being thrown my way by the students in the cafeteria as I and Lilly make our way to Daniel's table, especially the glare Allison throws me when I sit next to Daniel and Lilly sits next to me. Allison smiles that fake bitchy smile of hers which she thinks no one sees through and opens her mouth to let out her annoying screechy voice. “ uhm...What are you doing here? ” Ugh save me God! Before I can reply her, Daniel takes her hands of his biceps and turns to face me. He pulls me into him, I instantly freeze but slowly relax when he whispers into my ears “ remember what I told you. ” then he increases the volume of his voice. “ I invited her, we've become friends. ” Some of the people around us noticeably choke on air, or nearly spit their food out. A chorus of ‘ what? ’ resound around us. And people start mumbling in unbelief. I roll my eyes trying to ignore them, even when I cringe hearing certain insinuations about just what kind of friends Daniel and I have become. Just when I thought this day couldn't get worse, Jonas decides that to be the perfect moment to step into the cafeteria. For the first time in my life I don't go into cardiac arrest as I take sight of Jonas as I am too busy trying to pry Daniel's hands away from my waist. “ relax and stop looking like a red freak. ” Great, I'm probably blushing like crazy from all the unwanted attention I'm getting from Daniel. I force myself to slowly look away from Jonas, not even screaming like mad when he says hi to me in that great voice of his. I stylishly move my fork from the table without anyone noticing and poke Daniel at his left rib side, when he starts paying too much attention to my thighs. “ what exactly is your plan again? ” “ you don't need to know ” he says smirking. “ all you have to do is to follow my instructions. ” he leans away from me slightly and speaks loud enough for others to hear. “ could you get me a burger and some chips Veronica? I'm kind of hungry. ” when I only look at him in shock, he leans into me and whispers “ boys like girls who are less bossy and more submissive. Do this and he'll probably start seeing you in a new light. ” That immediately gets me moving but not without me annoying him. “ sure Danny. ” I reply grinning from ear to ear despite how stupid I felt. Daniel's glare, slightly makes me happy and I smirk at him and walk off to do as he asked, ignoring the look of bewilderment on Lilly's face. When I get back, I try to eat my salad but being nervous makes it difficult for me to eat with Jonas right in front of me. After lunch break, I find a way to get Daniel alone so we can talk. “ can you at least tell me why you wanted me to sit at your table? ” I ask him feeling so confused about the entire thing. For a moment there, I had felt like Daniel was only playing around with me and doesn't plan on helping me. But I pushed that to the back of my mind once I remembered the contract. “ well the best way to get close to the guy you like is to become friends with him. ” he says like that is the most obvious thing in the world. “ but since you can't just become friends with him overnight, you start with his friends, so gradually you become his friend. ” he explained. I groan feeling so frustrated. “ I never thought it would take so long. ” “ a relationship is not a bullet, slam, bam, target dead. If it was, then slam, bam, you plus Jonas equals no relationship. You just don't rush it baby. ” he says smirking. I roll my eyes and realize that he is right. “ fine ” I mutter with a pout. The next second I feel Daniel's thumb swipe slowly across my bottom lip. “ what are you... ” I ask surprised and a little wary at the contact. “ shh... ” he whispers quietly as he leans over me with my back leaning against the blue locker behind me. “ you shouldn't pout so much, it's tempting. I might just decide to keep you for myself. ” I swallow hard and fast barely breathing at what he said but, looking into his eyes which seem to be laughing at me, I know he's just joking around. I push him away annoyed at what just happened. “ thanks but no thanks, I'd rather have Jonas. ” I tell him looking straight into his eyes. His eyes seem even more amused and a little bit mocking like there's something I don't know and for some reason, I don't want to find out.
