Chapter 2: Eloira's Savior

1240 Words
When Alpha Declan was on his way back to their pack after hunting in the nearby area of their territory, he abruptly stopped walking when he inhaled a sweet blood vapor. That is consistent with the wind. It was not the smell of the blood of the animals they had caught, nor was it caused by the wound of one of his men. His gaze darted one by one at his companions in an attempt to find it. They also took a look at the Alpha. Confused by his unexpected reaction. "Alpha Declan, what is wrong? Do you sense any danger around us?” They had already referred to him as Alpha, despite the fact that it would be a few years before he became the Alpha of their pack, out of respect. Declan did not like being called Alpha along with his name at first, but he eventually got used to it. "No, there is nothing." They kept walking, but the stench of blood that irritated Alpha Declan's nose intensified. They were getting closer to discovering where it came from. The future Alpha's face could no longer be painted due to the stronger smell of blood that lingered inside his nose. "Do you smell the same thing I do?" When Alpha Declan could not take it any longer, he asked them, thinking he was just imagining things. Perhaps his men could not detect it. "The stench of blood pervades the atmosphere." Declan declared as he roamed his eyes all around the area when he got no response from his men. The men around him began exchanging meaningful glances with one another. They were not sure what their Alpha meant at first. His companions simply shook their heads. Alpha Declan was surprised because it was impossible that he was the only one who could smell that blood. "I could not be wrong. It smelled like fresh blood.” Alpha Declan muttered several times while staring at them. One of his men accepted the five pieces of deer he had caught. Fear sent shivers down his spine as he looked for the source of the foul smell. He had a different feeling as if someone was attempting to kill someone. It was part of the border of their territory so they must find the exact area. They followed the scent led by Alpha Declan and their feet brought them in front of an unknown woman near the old tree and hidden near the bushes of plants currently bathed in her fresh blood. Her body now appears to be barely moving, or in one word, motionless. "I discovered the source of the scent. She is right there. Lying on the ground!” Alpha Declan knelt down and immediately felt Eloira's neck to see if she still had a pulse before one of his men could do that. Each of his men was taken aback. They had seen victims before, but this was the first unexpected one. When Alpha Declan felt that there was more but was very weak, he lifted Eloira's body without hesitation not knowing who she was. It caused his men to part their lips in amazement. Some of them attempted to stop him but were unsuccessful in persuading the future Alpha to do nothing. His face exudes determination to assist the unknown and unconscious woman right now. "Alpha Declan, we still do not know who the woman is—" "We need to save her first to figure out which pack she belongs in!" Alpha Declan cut the words of his men. His men were dumbfounded. Alpha Declan quickly ran back towards their pack. He attempted to cover the woman's wound so the bleeding would stop but the stab was too deep so the blood still flowed like a stream. His men did nothing but follow him. They tried to erase the trail of blood dripping along the way and pointing toward their pack. They are aware that it is risky because, in the end, they may be held responsible for the woman's injuries. "I need a doctor right now. Please hurry!" Declan yelled at the top of his lungs as he entered the packhouse. “Call the doctors now and send them to my room or else this woman would pass away!” he repeated to get the attention of everyone in the area. Regardless of the presence of his parents who had just returned from visiting the other side of the border. The pack members were alarmed. However, they are unsure whether they will obey the future Alpha's orders when their true Alpha is right beside them. “What is going on?” One of the men who was with Alpha Declan quickly approached the Alpha of their pack. After bowing his head to pay his respects, he hastily told him what really happened at the border. He nodded his head as now he understood that the situation might be turned into an emergency. “Follow my son's command! Please call the doctors as soon as possible!" The pack members started to move and quickly followed Declan's orders. Alpha Declan laid Eloira's body on his bed, she was still covered in blood. The doctors entered his room one after the other to try to save the victim. Alpha Declan was almost gasping for breath as he watched what was happening right in front of him. He was weak, despite the fact that he was heavily breathing. He felt that it was too late. He is no longer capable of saving the life of an unknown woman. His face was dripping with beads of sweat. He could not move his feet and remained on the edge of his bed until his mother rushed inside. Luna Rama face was filled with worry because all she could think about was her son, who was involved in the situation. “Alpha Declan!” his mother shouted the moment she stepped on the door of the room and saw many droplets of fresh blood on the floor. She couldn't see clearly who was lying on the bed that's why she just kept crying. Her heart started to bleed knowing that her son was on the edge of death. Alpha Declan was startled by the sound of his mother's cry. He moved quickly up to her. “Mother...” Alpha Declan uttered. The moment his mother heard his cracked voice she immediately looked at him and when she saw that he was fine and that he was not the one the doctors were trying to save, she hugged him tightly. Luna Rama sobs grew louder as if she was about to faint. "Declan! I thought it was you again!" Declan returned his mother's embrace to calm her down. He understands why his mother is traumatized by these events. He got to the point a few years ago where he attempted to take his own life. He tried to commit suicide by jumping off a cliff just because his mate rejected him. His body was nearly twisted, and all of his bones were fractured. Fortunately, someone saw him right away and provided him with first aid. Just like the woman he tried to save now, what occurred to him back on that day was also tragic. “That is not me, Mother. Please calm down. I will never attempt to end my precious life again. I promise you that a million times over.”
