Only then did Alpha Declan breathe a sigh of relief when the doctor informed him that the woman's condition was relatively stable. She had lost a lot of blood, so they had to replace it and keep an eye on her for the next 24 hours to see if anything changed and her health improved. They are still unsure whether she will survive because her survival rate is very low, according to the doctor.
"The chances are slim, but we will do everything we can to save her, Alpha Declan. We will not give up hope as long as she has a pulse, which indicates that she is fighting for her dear life." the head of the doctor sympathetically patted Alpha Declan's shoulder to console him after saying it.
Alpha Declan nodded in response while his eyes were fixed on the woman in his bed. Her breathing appears to be normal to him. He sighs once more. It is not as difficult as it used to be. There are devices attached to her body, allowing everything to be monitored in case of emergency. Now that one of their servants had cleaned up the blood from her entire body, Alpha Declan could clearly see her gentle, innocent, and beautiful face, which he had never seen before.
"She looks somewhat familiar. Where have I seen her? I am sure I have seen her somewhere before."
Declan wondered where he had seen the woman but couldn't pinpoint exactly where the place was. He is sure that her face is familiar to him. Maybe he has seen her in those countless events where pack members from different packs around the area are invited because she looks like they are not too far apart in age. Or maybe there are times when they run into each other on the street.
"I will know everything when she wakes up."
Declan assumed the woman belonged to one of the nearby packs. The question for him is, who committed this heinous act against her? It is not possible that she did it to herself. Declan meant that if she was attempting to commit suicide. She could have done better, or she could have died peacefully without being hurt by a knife stabbed. Alpha Declan is convinced that someone else did it based on the location of the wound and the manner in which she was stabbed. It was obvious that the anger was pure, and the plan to end her life was intense. The suspect doesn't want her to be alive as the wound is severe and profound.
“Alpha Declan, you need to submit a report and a testimony about the incident. We need to let the officials know—”
Alpha Rigor, Declan's father, wrinkled his forehead when his son cut his sentence. This is not how he knows and raised his beloved son. He is pretty rude. Declan always followed all his orders because he knew it would benefit him. This is the first time he will be disobeyed, only because of that woman.
“No, Father. Her life was in danger, and doing that was not good for her. We must wait for her to wake up.”
Declan was in his father's office. After dinner, Alpha Rigor called him to talk over the situation. As soon as he entered, Alpha Declan immediately knew what it was about based on his father's facial reaction. It was apparent and can be guessed only by the facial response of the Alpha Rigor.
“We are not a hundred percent sure of that, Declan. What if it was just an accident? You hastily brought her body into our pack house without conducting any further investigation. That was not you. You must think critically about it first before you decide."
Declan shook his head vigorously. He has a different point of view from his father, and he will stand by it until the woman wakes up. He had already promised himself that because he knew Alpha Rigor, his father would argue with him about his sudden decision without first informing him and consulting him on what the outcome was.
"It was not possible, Father. It was planned. The woman's heart was the target of the assailant, which was obviously pure intentional.”
Alpha Rigor's face darkened. Declan's opinion had left him feeling disappointed. He wants them to live quietly in the area as soon as possible and does not want to get involved in the conflict between other packs and their territories. He is already done and exhausted fighting with them, especially if it is about trivial matters.
Alpha Rigor feared that if they did not submit a report about what happened, they would be accused of doing the work with the unknown woman. He doesn't want Declan to be involved. If that happens, it will make him furiously mad. He is sure that they will be in trouble as a result of a single, minor mistake made by their future Alpha.
"What would you like to do now? To keep that unconscious woman hidden in our pack?"
Declan pursed his lips.
"Declan listened to me. You are the future Alpha of the pack. You cannot simply make a decision without first carefully considering it. Your pack members will be harmed and affected by the mess you will create if you are not aware of making the right decisions for everyone's benefit."
Declan chose not to respond again as he knew he had no match for his father. He remained silent while standing in front of Alpha Rigor, whose face was now serious. Declan lowered his eyes to his feet.
"What if the woman's parents are already searching for her? They couldn't find her because she was here. They will soon report that she has disappeared. What happens to us if she is discovered here? Their pack will believe we purposefully concealed her and kidnapped her for some reason. How do you explain that, Declan?"
“I can explain to them—”
"Son, you made another mistake. There are some things that cannot be explained. Only a small percentage of them will listen to you, but a much larger percentage will hold you accountable."
Declan thought that his father was right, but what can he do? He could not let the woman return to the border and abandoned her there, untreated. He lifted his face to make an agreement with him.
"Let us wait until she wakes up. She was the one who could prove my innocence—"
"What happens if she never wakes up?"
Alpha Declan's chest suddenly tightened at the thought that he would not be able to save her. He shook his head several times to hide his emotions from his father. He was confident that the woman would survive. She will wake up soon, and he will know the truth through her. She will reveal the truth about what happened. They will both unfold the mystery of that incident. He is willing to help her.
“The woman will survive, Father. She will wake up. She must wake up in order to tell us the truth!" Declan responded firmly to his father's query.
Alpha Rigor felt pity when he saw his son's hidden emotions now. Declan really wanted to save the woman, but he couldn't do anything too. He is concerned that his son will soon be involved in the crime, becoming their prey and causing trouble for their peaceful pack. If the woman dies while in their care, they will almost certainly be held responsible. That was something Alpha Rigor did not want to happen as the situation worsened.
“Take some rest now, Declan. We will discuss this matter further tomorrow. I will give you only 24 hours to help the woman improve her health. If the condition worsens within those hours. You have no say in my decision because we will return her where you found her whether you like it or not."
Declan says nothing to oppose his father, but he chooses to leave the office. Both of his shoulders slumped. He knew the woman's condition would not improve quickly, especially since she had lost so much blood. Yes, she has been transfused with a few bags of blood, but he also understands that this is insufficient to make her completely better right away.
"Do not worry, Brother. I am confident that she will survive. Her purpose in this life has not yet been fulfilled. Meeting you was part of her fate. Don't you believe in destiny?”
Declan forced a smile when he saw Monica, his younger sister, right after opening the door of their father's office. He just forced a fake smile for her.
