Chapter 8: Paxton

“So, what happened to the party? Come on, tell us!” Polly asked. She’s the girl I first met during the orientation and she is assigned to the HR Department.

Polly is a sweet girl. She’s the Ms. Congeniality of our batch..she’s always smiling and nice to everyone. That’s why everyone adores her. Plus the fact that she’s a hot Latina girl!

“Were you able to see Mr. Soleil?” Lola asked dreamily.

Lola is actually my schoolmate, we have never been classmates before but we see each other sometimes on campus. We are thrilled to see each other in the Orientation because it feels so good to have someone you know having an internship with you.

“Is he really hot?! I haven’t seen him in person yet! And there’s no chance that I will see him because he never visits the Marketing Department as per the employees there!” Naomi the tall girl in our batch said.

“It’s so unfair! Why weren’t we invited?!” Ava whined. She’s the girl who openly told us that she has a huge crush to Mr. Soleil during our Orientation day, and that is the reason why she’s having her internship here.

“Because not all of us has a backer!” Ember the beautiful brunette girl said while looking at me with a smirk on her face.

Since the day of Orientation, I know how Ember dislikes me. I coughed her glaring at me several times that day, I don’t even remember what I did to her to make her hate me. And when she heard that I will be working in the Operations department and have Travis as my mentor, she became more bitter and she even poisoned the other girl's mind to turn against me.

So yes, I have so many bashers here at Soleil, thanks to her! I won’t even be surprised if she has already tainted my name with the employees in the Finance Department!

“Oh Ember, a backer is better than a sugar daddy! Who knows? Maybe Calliope has a Sugar daddy here in the Company that’s why she’s getting all the privileges that she’s enjoying now.” Cora said while looking at me as if I am so disgusting. Ember laughed at what she have said together with Sania, who’s also mad at me because she likes Travis and Travis is just ignoring her.

“Oh excuse me? Are we talking to the three of you? Why are you girls being so nosy?” Lola asked while pointing her fork to the other girls who are sitting at the table beside us.

“Because they think so highly of themselves that they felt they should also be getting what Cali is getting.. but hey, Cali is far better than any of us here..so you must act accordingly!” Naomi said.

“And she doesn’t need a sugar daddy because bachelors’ are running after her!” Polly said, gone is her nice side.

“Oh really?” Cora asked in a sarcastic way.

“Yes, look behind you, even the guy of your dream is after her!” Ava pointed to the guy who’s walking in our direction.

Ava is referring to Paxton. He is one of the guy interns in our batch. Paxton is a very good looking guy, in one look you know that he will pass as a member of a Lacrosse Team with his built. He also looks like an RK..or rich kid on how well he dresses himself and also you can see from his things. I heard that his father is one of the directors here at Soleil International that’s why his having his internship here.

Paxton is a really nice guy that’s why I can’t blame Cora for liking him.

“Hi Calli..” He said when he reached our table.

“Hi!” I smiled at him.

“Hello girls..” He greeted them next, and the girls greeted her back. I can see how red is Cora’s face.

“Oh Hi Paxton! Are you here to see Calli?” Lola asked Paxton while looking at Cora in a teasing way.

Paxton’s face turned a bit red, he scratched the back of his neck as if he is embarrassed.

“Uhmnn..I just want to see her since I haven’t seen her for several days.” He smiled shyly.

“Ohhh” Polly smirked at Cora and I saw the hurt in Cora’s eyes.

“Hey Calli, what are you waiting for? Go with Paxton, just walk for a while since it’s still lunchtime.” Lola said as she tried to pull me so I will stand from where I am sitting.

“I- what?”

“Go.. have some fresh air!” Naomi said while pushing me to Paxton.

I almost stumbled good thing Paxton was able to catch me.

“Sorry..” I apologized.

“Oh.. it’s okay..”

“Ayieeee…” They teased us, which made the other interns and employees at the cafeteria look at us.

“Hey stop it..” I warned them, my face is getting hot already, this is so embarrassing.

“Just go with Paxton, if you don’t want us to tease you!”Polly said while smirking at me.

“You girls are horrible!” I shook my head and walk towards the door while Paxton is following me.

Before I left the Cafeteria, I can see Travis' eyes bore at me. 

He looks disappointed.

But why?

"Are you and Paxton going out?"

I stopped typing when I heard Travis' question.

"Excuse me?"

"Are you dating Paxton?" He asked in a small voice.

"You know Paxton?"

"Are you dating him?"

My brows furrowed.

"Uhmn.. I'm sorry Travis, but that is too personal, so..it's none of your business." I said in a flat tone.

His lips parted, it's like he got surprised that a bitc* out on him.

But hey.. he shouldn't have asked that right?

He nodded like he understood.

"Hey, sorry.. I wasn't supposed to ask that-"

"No I'm sorry, I shouldn't have been rude. I'm just a bit annoyed! But not with you...so sorry!" I said, realizing that he is my Mentor and I should give him respect.

"It's okay.." he said and gave me a small smile.

I sighted.

"No.." I said.

"What?"

"I mean..just to answer your question. No, I'm not dating Parker."

"You're not?" He asked again.

"Hmnn.. yeah, not YET," I said while giving him a teasing smile.

And he looks confused with what I have said but he chose not comment on it.

But before I left the office he left me some words that made me confused.

"You should not date him. Or anyone. You shouldn't date at all. For your own good. Just a piece of friendly advice."
