13. The Overseer

1032 Words
"The new Guardian?" "Will we be able to meet the new Guardian today, overseer?" The leader of the Hyali tribe asked the overseer with wide eyes. She didn't expect to meet the new guardian that the overseer had talked about in her letter. The other tribe leaders were silent and lost in their own thoughts about how they would benefit once they were able to meet the new guardian. But their attention switched to the overseer when she cleared her throat and got their attention. Matias, who was among the crowd and was sitting in the second seat on the overseer's right, snapped his head at the overseer after she cleared her throat. However, he soon flinched upon seeing that the overseer was looking at him. No, she was staring at him with a slight smile on her face. The tribe leader of the Dillon tribe noticed this and looked over to Matias as well. "Yes, the new Guardian will come here today and join us in the meeting." The overseer spoke, but she did not bother to break the stare with Matias. Matias could feel the sweat in his back forming and he gulped down due to his nervousness. The overseer's attention was suddenly shifted to him, and having no idea why that was the case made him more anxious than he intended to be. For some reason, Bella appeared in his mind. The thought of Bella coming here because he told her to made him subtly forget about his nervousness and become worried. "There is no way, right?" Matias thought to himself as he took his eyes away from the overseer. "Once the new Guardian arrives, I ask of you to be respectful of that person. "No matter what the situation is," The overseer spoke once again after a few seconds. "Do you perhaps know of the new Guardian's identity, overseer?" The tribe leader of the Hyali tribe was next to ask a question. "No, I do not." But I know certain things about that person. We should discuss this once the Guardian arrives. "For now, we should focus on reporting the situation on the island; after all, that earthquake should have caused inconsiderable damage to the island." The overseer shifted the topic from the Guardian to the island's welfare rather swiftly. "Then, I will start the report on the Tylia Tribe's land first." The leader of the Tylia tribe volunteered. "Alright." "The waterfall near the field was blocked by huge boulders that fell from the mountain during the earthquake. We were slowly fixing the problem by cutting the boulders into carryable pieces, but it's taking too long to break them. "The water supply of the tribe was troubling, and if it continues this way, it might affect the crops and the water supply for the other tribes and the animals." The meeting continued swiftly with no problems. Everyone became absorbed in the details of the happenings, the current problems they have encountered, and the effects of the massive earthquake, but there was one person who could not help but have his attention divided into two parts. That person was Matias. Meanwhile, Bella and Lyca were near the shore when Lyca suddenly stopped on her tracks and looked behind her. "What's wrong, Lyca?" Bella asked as she crouched down to see Lyca's face. On the other hand, Lyca was looking around with her sharp eyes at the surroundings. It was still dark, but the moonlight illuminated some of the areas in the forest. "Grrr!!!" Lyca growled loudly before turning toward the shore and running at full speed once again. The ship arrived shortly at the shore. Bella got off of Lyca's back and looked around the area, but she found not a single soul. Bella frowned in confusion. "Let's look around for a bit." Bella couldn't finish her sentence when Lyca sniffed her hand. "What is it?" Bella asked, but Lyca continued sniffing her palm. "Oh, right! The flames!" Bella spoke with glee when she remembered that she had the blue flames to help her. She thought about finding Matias, and suddenly a blue flame appeared a meter away from her. Bella looked over at Lyca, and the latter nodded her head toward the blue flame, telling the former to follow it. As Bella walked towards it, the blue flame disappeared before another one appeared a meter away from her, leading her below the highest cliff on the shore. Bella, the blue flame disappeared, and Bella waited for another one to appear, but no matter how long she waited, no other blue flame showed itself. "What is with this wall?" There is nothing here?!" Bella stated this with frustration but soon spotted the droplets of blood on the ground. "Blood?" Bella squatted to have a better look at the blood. Her hands reached for it, and to her surprise, the blood was vaporized when a blue flame appeared at her fingertips. Bella felt amazed by the fact that the sudden action was so natural to her that it was as if she had done it multiple times already. She stood straight and followed what the blue flames inside her body were directing her to do. She placed her hand on the wall, and seconds later it split apart, making a path for her to walk on. Bella took a deep breath and stepped into the newly created path. And after a few minutes, several voices reached her ears. Her guard went up as her senses heightened. However, it was not the same thing for Lyca, who continued to walk in a relaxed manner. "The cracks on the island need to be healed by the Guardian; power can do more... after the Guardian arrives." The sound of a woman's voice made Bella's heart race. No, it was the blue flames, which swirled wildly beside her heart. Only one more step and Bella would see the owner of the voices, but that would mean that whoever the voices' owners were was going to see Bella, too. As Bella took the step and revealed herself, a pair of ten eyes flew in her direction, and the next thing she heard was her name.
