Chapter 4

942 Words
*1 week later* Alice POV I’m out jogging again like every morning, but the last week has not been the same as before. The stranger plagues my thoughts and dreams. I think it might be because I haven’t seen his face and a healthy amount of curiosity is now becoming intolerable. That scent is driving me crazy, but even if the stranger is around I will not go looking for him. He’ll just do what the others did, mistreat me, hurt me, break me again. I will not have that, I’ve come too far to let that happen again. I run faster, pushing myself to my limits and then as I turn down the path something catches my eye. I stop and look into the woods trying to verify if it was real, but there’s nothing. I shrug it off and continue running. As I come to a stop at my apartment building, I smell it again the fresh ocean breeze and, hmm, is it sandalwood? Yeah it smells like sandalwood, but where is it coming from? I glance around, but as always I’m alone. So I head upstairs to finish getting ready for work.   Belmont POV I have been in the trees every morning, sitting and waiting just for her. I need her like I need air, Duke is going crazy, so we sit and wait for our beloved mate to run past us. She glides gracefully over the ground, it seems she’s not even touching the ground. The way she moves, the way her chest rises and falls when she takes a small break. Her sweat glistening in the early morning sun on her fair skin. Goddess I’m screwed, I’m in love with this woman and she doesn’t even know I exist. Today was a close call though, she almost saw Duke running next to her. “We should be more careful Duke, she’s human, she won’t understand what we are okay?”  I spoke to him in a calm voice and to my surprise he replied with “I know, I’m sorry I got carried away, I will be more careful. I don’t want to scare or hurt our mate.” His voice was remorseful. I smiled internally “It’s okay buddy I get it. This is uncharted territory for me too. So we have to find a way to get to know her. Any ideas?” I asked him because all my ideas were actually creepy or illegal. “I think you should ask Mihai, because at this point I’m really leaning towards kidnapping.” Duke answered truthfully. “Well yes I think that’s best, we can’t be trusted alone with her.” My heart was breaking a bit every day I wasn’t near her but knowing humans, they think we’re mindless monsters, so I need to get her to fall for me first and then I will tell her what I am. So with that I went back to my apartment to speak to Mihai. “Mihai, I need your help.” I said walking in the door. “Anything your highness, how may I be of assistance?” he asked handing me my cup of coffee “Please Mihai, it’s about the woman, my mate.” I said sitting on the couch. He took the seat next to me with a smirk n his face. “Oh I see, so what seems to be the problem Belmont?” he sat on the edge of the couch, looking at me intently. “Well I need to know everything about her but I don’t trust myself alone with her, the bond will make me do things I will regret and it won’t be beneficial to my current predicament, so to say.” I looked away, embarrassed for my thoughts about my blue eyed beauty. “Well I will handle this the same way I handle anything else in my work.” He stated. I snapped my eyes to him looking for any form of humor but there was none. A low growl escaped my lips and I felt my eyes starting to glow gold. Mihai on the other hand just sat there with his same serious expression as always. “You will not lay a finger on my mate Mihai.” It was Duke’s voice and we were angry. He will not hurt her, I love him like my own brother but goddess knows I will tear him limb from limb. “You misunderstand Belmont, I’m not going to hurt her, I’m going to scout her. I will find out everything I can about her and report back to you.” He said without blinking an eye. I on the other hand sat there feeling like a fool for even thinking he would hurt her. I knew him, I knew he didn’t do anything without having all the facts first. That’s why he is my Beta and my general. “Mihai, I’m sorry old friend. I did not mean to insult you or question your integrity, forgive me.” I said and saw a grin spread across his face as he nodded. “No offense taken Belmont, I know how the bond can cloud your rational thoughts. So I’m going to go to your lovely mate and see what I can find out, you on the other hand need to go to the office and interrogate the spy.” He said standing up and heading to the door, he was about to open the door before he turned to me. “Oh and your highness, please get information out of him before you kill him. We need to know who he is working for. Good day sir.” And with that he’s out the door. I just sit there chuckling and shaking my head. Mihai, only you can go from friend to subordinate without missing a beat. Please find something my friend, I need her.
